Thanks for the welcome[]

Just saying thanks for the welcome, looking forward to filling in as many of the gaps on the Mass Effect wiki as I can, I'm pretty much always creating some sort of database of information on a RPG type game. Only questions I have deal with the Wanted list, just wondering how often it updates and why there seems to be so many of the red link pages missing from the list. Other thing which is connected to the first one is if a page is on the wanted list due to being spelled wrong but the spelling is fixed now will that item on the wanted list disappear eventually or would it have to be created to disappear? I'm actually new to wiki editing so sorry if those are beginner question's I could easily find somewhere else. Galren Creptus 01:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Metal Gear Wiki on Gamespot[]

Hello. The Metal Gear Wiki has created a list of our Featured Articles (which can be seen here). We hope it is satisfactory. If it is not, please leave a message on my (Fantômas) talk page at the Metal Gear Wiki and we will fix it. --Fantomas 18:13, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Cool :) Kirkburn (talk) 16:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I've checked, and it's up. However, unlike the halopedia link, it doesn't show images. Did we do something wrong, or is this the wrong link: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starcraft2/wiki.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;wiki

PsiSeveredHead 22:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I think the Gamespot wiki page disappeared! It now redirects to http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starcraft2/index.html which no longer has the wiki tab. Halopedia's tab ist still up. PsiSeveredHead 22:20, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Your FYI Comment[]

I read what you said about my skills under FYI on the Club Penguin Wiki. I did not like it. I am actually a very experienced administrator, and am very good at blocking. I am quite serious with my blocking, and am not a lousy administrator. I do not abuse my power, so before you insult me as you did, you better do your research. I am quite liked on the wiki where I am the administrator. SO THERE!
Here is what you said:

"Admins have a responsiblity to the wiki, and they should not throw around bans lightly."

I do not "throw" my bans. I block those who swear, add junk onto pages, and other naughty things. I also block those who offend me and other users. I will not block you, as you probably made a mistake, and because you seem like a very good user. I just wanted to let you know that what you said was rude, and it hurt my feelings. Oh, and who is Sansse? I have never seen him edit before.

I Think I Can Do My Job Myself[]

TurtleShroom is right you are annoying. I simply blocked Peach because there are quite a few Christian users (I do believe but have no religion but I could understand how they feel it's quite offensive to them). I did not do this in any way of me abusing my power. I just barely turned 11 and I know how bad they feel when they see something like that, honestly did you join to criticize people or to help wikis?

Starter wiki[]

Saw the message you left over at the Half-Life Wiki, where I'm the new local 'crat. First off, thanks for the suggestions. However, while the Starter Wiki seems like a good idea... everything being locked there sucks. I spotted a broken link and went to check it, only to find out I couldn't. Why does it have special permissions? It just seems... well, unwiki. EVula // talk // 06:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Given it's the base wiki for all new wikis, we can't risk any vandalism to it whatsoever. What broken link did you find? Kirkburn (talk) 10:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I can understand the stuff that is strictly for copying and pasting being locked down, and am not suggesting changing that. But some of the other stuff could/should be left open; what happens if someone comes up with a nice idea for something? As it stands right now, you can't even leave messages for anyone. I understand that, because of the purpose of that particular project, fostering a community isn't a big priority, but still...
The broken links (I've since found more) I found are on c:starter:Help:Starting this wiki. The "go all out" link in Item #4 needs a "c:", as do the Muppet, Bioshock, and Lost links in section #2. Right now, they just go back to Wikia proper.
Though this wasn't my intention when dropping you a line, I'd be happy to help check for further links if either (a) you change the site's permissions or (b) I get a sysop bit so I can edit (I've got plenty of wiki-experience, so it's not like I'm likely to accidently delete the Main Page). It would just be a hell of a lot more convenient for both of us. :) EVula // talk // 16:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I've fixed those links! The entire wiki is the base wiki, so there is no part that can be left open. To request access I would recommend talking to one of the community team, like User:Sannse who should be able to help you :) Kirkburn (talk) 22:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll do that, though it might in a few weeks. I like the idea of the Starter wiki, like I said, but I'm fairly busy right now, and what little time I have is being spent reviving the Half-Life wikia project. I should probably not overload myself. :)
If I happen to run across anything else that needs fixing, I might just go ahead and bug Sannse for the access. EVula // talk // 23:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Re. AceWiki[]

Yeah, I frequent the Wikia Gaming IRC Channel. I know it exists. -- {{SUBST:User:Sgt.johnson/Sig}} 16:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

CreatePage[]

Very Nice :)

Well, with that said... is there a way to have it load the CreatePage and have a certain tab selected by default? Or will it always show the first tab regardless?

IE: Someone wants to create a guild, so they click the "Create Guild" button and it takes them to that page and automatically has the Guild Create option up there?

Daworm 23:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Just realised something else, how do we have it create the page into a Namespace? Daworm 00:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Two very good questions - I'll see what I can find out. Kirkburn (talk) 11:08, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

CreatePlates[]

Thanks for setting them up on the Lost Odyssey wiki. Is there any way to apply the CreatePlate templates to existing pages, or must they be manually edited? Marco0009 19:27, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Templates[]

Hi, this is Atrumentis from the Diablo wiki.

Firstly, I'm having a bit of trouble using templates and finding a list of all the templates on the Diablo wiki. There doesn't seem to be a list, I kept clicking links but they kept leading me in circles. It'd be nice to have a list of all of them and some easy instructions on how to use them. The current instructions make them seem so complicated.

Secondly, I would like to create a new template that deals with the skills of each class. For example:

Template heading: Necromancer Skills

Subheading: Summoning Spells

- list of all summoning skills -

Subheading: Poison and Bone

- list of all poison and bone skills -

Subheading: Curses

- list of all curses -

(They are officially called 'skills', but the sub-category of necro summoning skills are called 'spells')

I don't know how to do it myself, but could you show me?

Atrumentis 05:11, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Also, I have a question. Am I allowed to copy text and tables in regards to the game part of Diablo from the Arreat Summit? Because they pretty much have everything we need for the game side of it, it would be much easier to just copy what they have. Our wiki could also improve on what they say, but for now at least, can we just copy their info? I think its allowed, especially if the info isn't theirs in the first place (but sometimes it is). Atrumentis 06:24, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

AoC Project[]

Hi, Kirk! I spoke with Catherine about a project involving Wikia and Age of Conan around a week ago, and she said that I should talk with you. Did she get the information about the potential project to you? Do you prefer something other than e-mail, such as IRC or Skype, for primary work communications? Please use my talk page on Wikia Central or this talk page to respond. Thanks! --Lilithia 12:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me! The concept is to have a template wiki set up for launch day. As soon as the roleplay server names are declared, the template can be reused on appropriately-named wikis for each server. I noticed over the years that the MMO roleplay wikis in WoW worked best when:
  1. Server-by-server: A single RP wiki for all servers was founded and strongly opposed by all server communities; at the other end of the spectrum, wikis for only guilds or groups had equally weak useage and short lifespans. Additionally, the typical inter-server competition appears to drive innovation.
  2. Founded closer to launch date: The further from launch date the wikis were founded, the less community support they received.
The template wiki could continue to be used as a sandbox to test new systems and ideas from each server community, to add new and working ideas from each server to the base template, and a template for new RP wikis each time an AoC server opens. This would assure that each community gets their own hub to gather around and improve, but continuity between them would remain.
What do you think?
--Lilithia 12:27, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind me replying here :) How specific to AoC do you think it may become? RP realms seem to be popular over quite a few games (e.g. WoW, my main game), so this could be a cool project not only for AoC.
In any case, I think it's an excellent idea, I shall see about requesting you a sandbox wiki for you and others to work on. Closer to release we can see about making sure it's all clean and tidy and ready to go out as the "standard" RP wiki. Have you heard of our Gamingstarter.wikia.com wiki? We (try to) use that to start Gaming wikis, and this would be in a similar vein. Kirkburn (talk) 20:48, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay, can you make a request via http://requests.wikia.com ? We should be able to set up your sandbox fairly quickly :) Kirkburn (talk) 21:01, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I've always hoped to be able to develop the ER Wiki's system to be able to be used in a wide variety of roleplay server wikis for any game that supports the gameplay style (I wish I could do more toward that every day, but pesky day jobs and livings keep eating up wiki time!). It's a great niche for a Wikia to fill for many MMOs, and could lead to business partnerships on a small scale between Wikia, Inc. and the game companies. Perhaps we should look toward the AoC project as a test of that capability; if successful, we can use the template and apply it to any RP server in any MMO. Most MMOs could expect that kind of support at launch, as well, building those before-mentioned closer ties. Think of the service--the exposure--the hitrates!
I'm getting carried away, though. I get excitable when this sort of talk comes up.
I'll check out the gaming starter wiki, as there may be some useful code there, and I'll put in a request for the sandbox in a few hours. Also, we should probably prepare some advertising and promotion strategies so we can hit the ground running.
--Lilithia 22:43, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Hey hey, Kirk! Lilithia here. Since this is something outside of WoW and may involve multi-community interaction, I went ahead and registered my usual callsign instead of my WoW character's name.
The wiki request has been submitted at http://requests.wikia.com/index.php?title=Rpgstarter&action=purge.

http://rpgstarter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page is up! Kirkburn (talk) 20:54, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Kirk! My friend and I will start working on things over the month to prepare it. We'll contact you if we need any assistance. We'll set a goal of having the template mostly done by the end of this month. We can start getting together to plan for the AoC release and synching the template with it around the first week of April--do you think that would be enough time to prepare promotion and such? --TarrVetus 21:22, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Sounds fine :) Kirkburn (talk) 18:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
A busy and sick weekend and packed work days have crushed my production time. I am going to try to make as much headway into the starter wiki as possible tonight. We should be back on track by next Monday. Sorry about the delay. --TarrVetus 20:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
First, /hug. Second, I'll be very interested to see what you come up with! Kirkburn (talk) 20:59, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Wouldn't you know it--I got sick after taking care of my housemate. I got over it after a week of fevers, though. The good news is that I'm rolling along on creating the RPGStarter! I should be able to mostly finish it this weekend. Before I get into the bulk of the work, though, could you look over what has been created thusfar and give me some feedback on the front page and the character sorting system? Just check the recent changes--everything is there. --TarrVetus 19:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

HI[]

Whats up

Wikia Site Layout[]

Is it just me, or is there something really wrong with the whole of Wikia.com? I see everything as basically raw text. No images at all. White background, black text, blue links, all in a list (no columns, nothing like it was before). It feels like I'm using Microsoft Word. Its been like this for a few days, I'm very concerned.

Atrumentis 13:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Sysop Privileges[]

Do you know if there is any way to remove sysop privileges from users, allowing them to continue as contributors without the ability to ban, ect.? One of the wikis I operate has formed a clique between some of the moderators and contributors, and the featured content on the front page is frequently only that from friends/good acquaintances of the moderators in charge of choosing features. After repeated attempts to address the problem (forum posts, e-mails, so-forth), I'm running out of options and am left with the need to find new people to handle the responsibility. --TarrVetus 13:06, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, if you bring it to a Community Team member they can help deal with the issue. User:Sannse would probably be your best bet. Is it likely a wiki I've been on? If so, give me a link and I'll take a look too. Kirkburn (talk) 13:55, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I can give you a full case rundown. This post contains the public discussion of the situation; look for the post with the pie chart graphic (please read it carefully--the depth of the issue is touched upon within). Previous to that post, the situation had been mentioned in private on several occasions. Though untracked after December, members of the groups and friends of those members continue to get more spotlight attention despite new content continuing to come in that is not related to the groups on that chart. Furthermore, the favoritism is huring the wiki's community perception, making it appear more like the domain of those groups in 'control.' We're getting tired of being all talk and no action on this issue.
We have a sysop from around a year ago that I requested have privileges removed, and that was never addressed. I'm going to try to diffuse the situation as politely as possible, which would be to say that we're transferring selection of the article weekly features to new people/a new system, but the event will likely collapse into having to take away privileges from the two existing sysops, altogether. As a show that it is possible to manage ourselves, and we're not completely impotent in these matters, I would like to revoke the sysop rights for the defunct account "Gospel Lightfaith" prior to dealing with the favoritism issue.

NWN2Wiki overall appearance changes[]

Hi you've visited us quite a few times. I am working on revising the look and feel of this wikia. This is my current version which is mainly just modifying quartz. ( I faked out the logo in photoshop, since i am not implementing this until i get some consensus. but rest is all done thru my personal stylesheet )

http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Homepagewithstylesheet.jpg

We are using quartz. I'd like to implement a new skin that could look similar to the above, perhaps based on monaco so more features work. Not sure if that is how it works. But i'd want the features of monaco, but be able to move things around more like our current wikia since folks don't all like the newer skin ( we like the frame on the right ).

Is there a step by step description on how to set up a completely new skin. ( CSS and photoshop i already know, i just need to know which are the config files, and if there is a way i can do it in a way that makes it a new option as opposed to a mod of an existing skin ). I am trying to figure this out myself, and have been thru quite a few explanatory type pages, but nothing that really lets me understand how the system works.

Unfortunately not really - Quartz wasn't built for the same level of customizability of Monaco (and I must warm you it's no longer actively developed, unlike Monaco). However, this page may be able to help - [3]. Kirkburn (talk) 23:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Change icon for WoWWiki on Wikia central?[]

Perhaps we should use c:wow:Image:Logo-vert-100x100.png instead of Warcraftlogo.png (Image:Warcraftlogo.png) on Big wikis, Gaming/List of wikis, and Gaming/The Hits? I don't know if we can track down the source of Warcraftlogo.png, but we know that c:wow:Image:Logo-vert-100x100.png was originally designed by Mikk way back and he explicitly released this one into public domain. --Fandyllic (talk · contr) 23:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Good point. I'll get on it. Kirkburn (talk) 23:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Alternatively, use the stamp! --Sky (t · c · w) 04:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, Fandyllic: c:wow:WoWWiki:Proposed icon is where they came from. --Sky (t · c · w) 04:18, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
That's not what I meant. I meant the origin of the image and whether the author cleared it for use. It isn't clear who the author is and no obvious permission was given to use it by Wikia. It definitely originated before Wikia took control of WoWWiki and just because it appeared in WoWWiki doesn't automatically subject to Gnu license if it was uploaded improperly in the first place.
The stamp works too, but its origin and permission for it is unclear also. --Fandyllic (talk · contr) 06:17, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Pretty sure Mikk's stuff is free for us to use. The stamp seemed to originate from SilverSide and no objections have been heard from any quarters about the stamp logo. I'd go for the stamp logo anyway, as that's most recognisable at the moment. Kirkburn (talk) 20:37, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Creatures Wiki[]

As an administrator on the Creatures Wiki, I would really appreciate it if you refrained from making any further unsolicited changes or modifications to our wiki. Things have been going fine since 2004, and as I have stated multiple times to you the last times you have made changes on our wiki, I really dislike unnecessary changes to things that have worked just fine since the wiki's creation. We are not really interested in being a part of the Wikia Gaming community, we don't need fancy new themes, and we don't need any other sweeping modifications or tweaks. We just want to keep doing what we've always done, which is be a simple, straightforward repository for Creatures information. If you have suggestions to make, please feel free to bring them up to us, but making changes without talking to us at all beforehand is pretty uncool. ElasticMuffin 06:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

My apologies, I will be more careful in future. However, can I mention that you have not mentioned this to me in the past, except when I posted talk page messages with suggestions or news. Kirkburn (talk) 12:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
We are not aware of any changes you make besides the ones you tell us about, and I thought it was reasonable to post my concerns on the talk pages where you'd mentioned the changes. ElasticMuffin 14:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

SWG Wiki, Rattletrap, Admin[]

Kirkburn, thanks for your attention but the problem got bigger. The administrator I'm having a problem with blocked me for a whole week since last Saturday, when I edited that Rattletrap page. As you can see in the history [4], what I did was add more information below the data the Admin. doesn't want to be messed with. He then reverted it, blocked me and said it was because he wants [5] to keep those type of articles (collections, in SWG) in a format, and that I added redundant information. First, one cannot do whatever he wants if he is, in this case, limiting the amount of information people can have access to: wikis are all about information. And second, as to being redundant, when someone tells another person to go to a city named Asdfg, they say the name, they don't give coordinates. I was merely adding the names of in-game cities, and even dividing the coordinates by planet and putting it in an order that follows the beginner's quest in SWG, to make it easier for a new player as he goes from one world to the next.

As for using the summary, wouldn't have made a difference, because that Admin. is doing what he wants. He told me not to ruin it, I improved the article without ruining it (tested in-game), he blocked me the 1st time. I improved the 2nd time without even touching the original information on the article, and without Talk page or anything, 2nd block. Rsreston 18:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Galaxy Angel Wiki, False Content User[]

Hi Kirkburn, first off, thank you for your compliment on my monaco skin. I'm sure if you look at the edits, you'll see that a lot of experimentation was done to try to figure out how to make it work the way I wanted it to. Anyway, on to my actual concern, there is a user on my wiki, Vandreadworld, whose only contributions have been strange false content that for the most part attempts to link Galaxy Angel with Gundam SEED. The contributions he has made are clearly false, as for the most part, the parts that do have to do with Galaxy Angel (GA) are ripped verbatim from other pages on the wiki, while the parts that don't have to do with GA have clear indicators that they are false, like references to the "Cartoon Network military headquarters" or the "Hero TV Anime Alliance". You can check these by going through my deletion log [6]; most of the deletions are of his work. Oddly enough though, his recent edits seem to consist entirely of restoring and continuing to edit this one particular article [7], while sometimes editing other pages to make reference to it. I checked through it and it's still all false content, but it seems odd, since if he wanted to, he could be much more annoying, as to undo his damage at the moment, I only need to redelete the page, and revert his edit on a different one. I've blocked him and his IP addresses a few times now, and almost without fail, he comes back right after his block expires and re-makes his edits. I've tried to talk to him on his talk page, but have gotten no reply. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what to do. Thanks.

Unfortunately I cannot suggest much other than continuing to revert and ban for increasingly lengthy periods. I could request the IPs be checked to see if they're the same as the vandal account, but it seems pretty certain anyway. Hopefully he will eventually realise the futility of his actions. Sorry I can't be of more help! Kirkburn (talk) 14:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I thought about it. I'll be ready for the end of the week, like you were hoping for. Kimera 757 (talk) 23:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Beta Test[]

If only StarCraft II could beta test this fast :)

How does the Site Notice ID work? I checked the GTA wiki; they have made many changes (about 10, I believe) to their Site Notice page, but their Site Notice ID value is set at 2.

I can't link SiteScout to the Monaco bar yet as the page doesn't exist :) I've gone to several wikis that are using SiteScout, but the source (you can't edit them) always looks blank. However, it's clearly working at the other wikis. The same goes for upload

I believe I have a handle on site notice, custom fields and user extensions. I'm testing the latter here: http://beta.starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/User:PsiSeveredHead/Test (Yeah, right now it's just a copy).

Kimera 757 (talk) 01:16, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Tools Went Gold...[]

But there's one small bug.

I'm working on the userbox help page at http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Userboxes_extension

If I add this line: You can embed them in a page using [[Userbox:<name>]] the browser crashes when I try to make the edit. This is true for Firefox and Internet Explorer. At present it works if I don't try to make an internal link. I don't know what's going on. Kimera 757 (talk) 23:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Social Profiles are Red Links[]

Just a small one from GTW. When activated, the new Social Profiles don't rely on (or even use) any content that is actually on the User:Name page. So users with an empty user page (aka every new member, and everyone that exclusively has a social profile) actually just have a bunch of Red links, and users with content on their pages get Blue links whether they're using social profile or the standard wikimarkup profiles. I don't want to ask users to put random useless content in their user pages that won't show up, but I'm just glad the &action=edit flag isn't set up on the red links. Let me know if you can add an extra CSS class for social profile / userpage links that we can set to always be blue. Gboyers (?) 01:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Also something about userboxes. You don't seem to be able to use uploaded images in them at all (you have to save the image to your PC and re-upload in the userbox form) - the same happens with gifts. Also, you can't link to pages in the text area, defeating half the point of userboxes, which is to aid navigation and collaboration. And when you embed them in a page, they are a different size to the one you designed, so trying to make one with (eg) exactly one line of text will fail when its embedded. Also, a lot of the new admin pages (eg Special:GiftManager) aren't appearing on Special:Specialpages. Gboyers (?) 12:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

The red links thing is being tweaked. Reported the userbox problems. Thanks! Kirkburn (talk) 16:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Any progress? Thanks - Gboyers (?) 07:54, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Whenever someone registers now, it creates their profile page, causing a blue link, so that problem should be fixed. Not sure about the wikitext userboxes, will check up. Kirkburn (talk) 14:21, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Been going over your guides, and everything else, and doing much offsite planning and plotting. Once I get a good base down so that my vision is visible, I'll be putting out a Call to the forces across the net....especially those who have their own sites set up. :)

Starter Use[]

The intent of the RPGStarter was really more for the RPGStarter to support server wikis, and to allow guilds and other groups within those larger communities to create pages within the framework. From what I can see from past wikis, guild wikis do not appear to have a long life (sometimes, not even one that would qualify as "short").

We would like to speak with you about the upcoming use of the RPGStarter. Unfortunately, it appears I am available in IRC around 1AM your time. I should be free during some of the day on Wednesday, though, around your 4 or 5PM. Would you like to speak in IRC/Skype/etc. around that time?

--TarrVetus 15:09, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

IRC should be fine - can't guarantee I'll be up, but I'm always on the IRC channels anyway. Yeah, I meant RP servers :P Kirkburn (talk) 15:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Heh... I've had terrible luck, lately. I log into IRC right when you're going to sleep. Do you think you'll be awake around 4 or 5PM on Wed., though? --TarrVetus 15:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I should think so. Kirkburn (talk) 15:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Great! Speak with you then! --TarrVetus 15:38, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey Kirk. Between a long doctor's visit and computer problems, I was unable to talk to you today. Would sometime Friday be good for you? --TarrVetus 19:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Should be fine :) Kirkburn (talk) 14:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

thanks and a favor[]

ok thanks for the response, i'll just keep it at brick for now. i need a favor though, i made a new logo for the MH wiki, can you actually put it up? It should be the last picture uploaded. PitchBlack696 02:46, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

FFXIclopedia[]

Tweak away. I think for now we can keep the content pretty much what's there now. --GAHOO t/ c 20:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Mario Party Wiki Images[]

Hi Kirkburn, I'm having a little trouble on my wiki. I want to add the Image Gallery to my menu. I know how to edt the menu, but I can't find the Image Gallery! Can you help - Count Caterpie

Hey! (reply from Diablo wiki)[]

from Atrumentis 13:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm going good, thanks. I haven't had much time for the wiki lately unfortunately, so I don't have any issues. But, holidays are coming up again soon so I'll hopefully be able to contribute some more. We've had some more activity lately too, probably because of the increased hype surrounding Diablo III, so thats always good.

Hmm, and using the brick skin? Yeah, I like it. Reds/browns suit diablo more than blue. Except, it'd be better if it had a black background for the text instead of white (and obviously inverted text colour too). I would love to be able to customise our wiki even more than that though. I helped create some textual images for the skin design on diablofans.com, maybe we could do something similar with the Diablo wiki? I don't know much about coding, and I'm too afraid to fiddle with it myself lol, but I'll edit a screenshot of the homepage in photoshop and see if I can come up with something cooler than the simple set of colour schemes provided.

Heads up from Mabiwiki[]

Hey there-apparently you are the other admin on my Mabinogi Wiki. I'll ask you not to delete pages without asking me first though (if that isn't too much trouble) as I want my Wiki to stand out from others. Thank you!

Questions for new wiki[]

I recently started smallworlds wiki and am interested in a few things to improve it:

  • How can i use my own domain name for the site? Similar to what was done with wowwiki.com.
  • Can an entire wiki site be downloaded for safe-keeping, backups, etc?
  • Are there rules against displaying a wikia site in an iframe?

--User:Nightzilla

*Regarding the domain, I suggest talking to User:Sannse - however, there is nothing stopping you from purchasing a domain yourself and directing it to Wikia.
*Wikia performs backups of its own - see Database download for more details.
*Why would you want to do this? It would not be possible on a wiki without special coding. Kirkburn (talk) 12:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

E-Wrestling Encyclopedia needs a navigational box to be added[]

Hey there Kirkburn,

I'm the bureaucrat at E-Wrestling Encyclopedia and one user asked for the navigational box from wikipedia to be added into E-Wrestling Encyclopedia. Any such a way to do this? I'm also looking for the same thing at Soap Opera Wiki and Roller Derby Wiki. I thank you in advance if you could do this. Sundogs user talk | Soap Operas Wiki 01:56, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll try take a look later or tomorrow. Kirkburn (talk) 16:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

PSP Wiki[]

Hi Kirkburn. Can you comment in Forum:PSP Wiki, please? Thanks, ___ Playsonic2 16:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll bring it to the attention of the gaming team. Kirkburn (talk) 16:32, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! It really needs help. I have a 'Wiki.png' and a 'Wiki_wide.png' for that wiki on my computer.. ___ Playsonic2 16:38, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
One more thing. Is there a way to put the 'Default' Pack on the wiki ? I mean the account of Wikia to have all the templates and important pages on the wiki. The PSP Wiki don't have it. For example, here, it's a lot of work in a second.. ___ Playsonic2 17:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately, not really - as it would overwrite any changes that have been made. However, w:c:starter is most of that package, and you can just copy pages from there. Kirkburn (talk) 17:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I didn't know this 'starter' page.. It's perfect. Thanks very much for your helps ;) ___ Playsonic2 18:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

COH Sync BUGs[]

I noticed i was having a issue on coh and i looked it up on forms and im trying to find the right person to talk to cause in game i got what they call a sync bug it is very anoying and wont even let me play coh, ive about given up on tec support cause they are not very helpfull and they keep sending me stupid survey letters when they to begin with havent solved my issue, What or who would be the best person to contact, my email is elshevia@yahoo.com and ive also provided them with the phone number to my house and told them plz call, i dont think they are gonna help me. many others on forms think same app and we need to find a solution to this. Who can i talk to that would be like a one on one contact to resolve the issue? Do u think it is a trogen in my comp, or would it be the game client they have?

I need to know[]

If you are a Sysop on the Assassins Creed Wiki, there is an article with a misspelled name. If this is not a problem, than don't fix, otherwise, please do. The title of the artcile is Uknown Templar-yes, that is how it is spelled. Just an Alert. Demon Razgriz 21:07, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

My IRC ban on #wikia[]

I think it's unjustified. I didn't even impersonate Danny aka (Toughpigs). It was the same user who vandalized Danny's page. I wouldn't even think to impersonate Danny as the way he did it was post the exact same message from that page and then committed to do general stupidity. So why would you even blame me, I don't have a grudge against Danny. All I'm saying is that you'll reconsider the block, not saying unblock it, just think about it. --Taylor Karras talk contributions 15:01, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Taylor, as we discussed on IRC... you told me, very clearly, that it was you. I understand that you have changed your mind about that and say the admission was a mistake, but it seems odd at least that you would tell me you did this if you didn't. However, I am trying to contact a couple of people and get some logs of the whole incident, so that I can find out more about what went on. Please be patient while I do this. Thanks -- sannse (talk) 18:14, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Soulcalibur Wiki[]

Hi - I just wanted to say thanks for the new front page you devised for the Soul Calibur wiki. It's pretty sweet, and I've implemented it.

Thanks again,

Siegfriedschtauffen 14:41, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Replied on wiki. (Awesome!) Kirkburn (talk) 08:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Crysis Wikia[]

Are you the one who started the Crysis wikia? The Crysis wikia seems abandons and few of us are trying to keep it alive and running.

Jeffrey3732 04:03, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Heya, I'll try take a look sometimes this week. Thanks for your dedication! Kirkburn (talk) 08:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Problem w/ advertising[]

A don't mind the new formatting, except for the fact that we don't have a logo. But something has seriously got my attention. An ad keeps running past the front page advertise some online game called 'EVE'. Advertising doesn't bug me. This does. For wiki about a video game with a slightly younger appeal, I'd rather not have a 'T rated' War game advertised across the front page especially if the opening line is: "Will you defy the Word of GOD?" I'm a christian. I would (if possible) like this to be removed or at least replaced. --Count Caterpie

Thanks for the notice. I'll certainly bring it up, though I cannot guarantee a resolution. Kirkburn (talk) 08:51, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

SupCom wikia image upscaling[]

Thanks for the info. I'll consider my options, but none seem optimal... :/ I think I'll manage though :) Happypal (talk) 10:33, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Cool. Kirkburn (talk) 13:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again, but you had said "If anything changes, I will endeavour to update that page". I was just wondering if that meant that a change might be coming eventually (even if in a week, month or year), or if I shouldn't hold my breath at all (but if by some freak chance something does change, you'd update the page)? What should I be expecting? This is to know if I should wait or fix btw. Thanks again for your time and help. happypal (Talk)Admin@SupCom.wikia.com 10:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Nothing will change that I know of, but it's always possible it might come in a MediaWiki upgrade. Kirkburn (talk) 16:35, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Sandbox question[]

hi kirkburn,

total noob here. i needed a place to store articles and stories about second life for a group of friends and i thought i would try my hand at wiki. i went thru the basic tutorials and decided on a category of 'alt-media' but am still pretty shakey on structure. i noticed that it was moved to a sandbox (not sure how you define that term btw) - does that mean it will be deleted after a time? is there a better place for my group to store articles? i saw some further help on your page and will read those soon, but wanted to touch base with you now to let you know where i'm coming from.

Bluematrix 13:35, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

scratchpad.wikia.com may be more what you are going for - or even secondlife.wikia.com. Kirkburn (talk) 13:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Main Page Design for Lost Odyssey[]

Thanks for both the complement and the heads up :). I don't have a problem with the new layout you made. The only thing I'd maybe change are a few colors. Any ways if you want to go ahead and implement it I'm fine with that. I can make the colors changes that I mentioned on my own after it's up.

As far as other layout changes for this wikki I've been putting the stub tag at the bottom of pages now because the are messing with the adds. And that's really about it.

(Ilayas 18:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC))

Cool, will make a few tweaks, then implement. Kirkburn  talk  contr    12:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Monster Hunter WIki Main Page Redesign[]

Thanks, Kirk. I like the redesign a lot. THe only thing I have a concern with is the poll. It seems to run off the page to the side. PitchBlack696 19:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Added a note to the dev page. Kirkburn  talk  contr    12:12, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing the poll! But I have a new concern. The Halo and Final Fantasy Wikis have the ability to create quizzes, image polls, and have an "advanced" user page setup. Would it be possible for the MH wiki to get this? PitchBlack696 18:36, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure, you're on our list for future rollout. We're currently merging that codebranch into the main codebranch (see GTA and AoC for examples). Once we're sure that's stable, we'll try to get on it. I cannot promise a timescale yet, unfortunately. Kirkburn  talk  contr    18:39, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
