Hey gang!

We have seen some requests from users who want to know how they can volunteer a wiki they admin on for earlier migration to the Unified Community Platform. As we head towards the start of the Simple Wiki Migration stage of Phase 1, we wanted to lay out how you can make your wiki a candidate for early migration, if it doesn’t already fit staff criteria. We’ll have more on migration criteria as we get closer to Simple Wiki Migration start.

Make a Blog, Forum Post, or Discussions post proposing the measure[]

This is key. Have a public-facing discussion (Forum, Discussions, or Blog) about the intent to migrate early. Offer the opportunity for your editors and readers to voice their opinions. Make an announcement about the discussion and give folks at least a week to chime in. Make sure to link them to the relevant staff blog posts about the UCP too, so they’re up to speed on all the info they need about the new platform.

Gain the consent of your fellow active admins[]

If there is no strong opposition to the early migration expressed by your editors and readers, make sure that a majority of your active admins (edited in the last 2 months) approve the migration by having them comment as such on the public-facing discussion.

Let us know![]

Put a link to your discussion in the comments below, so that we can review the public post about the migration volunteering, check to make sure you have the majority consent of your active admins, and see if your wiki is a good fit for early adoption of the new platform.

Update: If you are linking your discussion NOW before the discussion has ended, please follow up to let us know the result.

While we certainly appreciate folks offering up wikis for early adoption of the new platform, we won’t take all the candidates right away, as we are being very methodical and data-driven about our migration approach. Some wikis may also be deemed ineligible for early migration, due to the features required for that wiki’s success. Please note that we are only considering English wikis for this volunteering program at this time.
