Hello, all!

Another month has gone by with a lot of big things happening and we’re here to recap what you may have missed, as well as hand out some accolades! Let’s dive right in.

Lots of Swag[]

Back in August, we announced the launch of Editor Rewards after a number of successful pilot programs over the course of the past several months. In September, we launched our first merchandise storefront to help support the Editor Rewards program.

For more information on the storefront, be sure to check out the announcement post.

Vertical Updates[]

Gaming

This month, Gamepedia celebrated its 7th anniversary! The joyous occasion was marked with a special achievement, fun stats, and a Hydra banner that shoots fireworks. Read more on that here.

We are currently holding an art contest to celebrate the release of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Create your own monster, submit it to the contest, and the winner will have a plushie of their monster made and also win an awesome Iceborne Velkhana statue! Check out the contest rules and how to enter here.

In a look forward to October, the League of Legends World Championship will be starting up and you can follow all the action here on the awesome Leaguepedia.

TV/Movies

We’re coming up on 20 years since the release of arguably the greatest movie spoof of all time, Galaxy Quest. To celebrate this milestone, we at Fandom talked to the folks who made the movie as well as some big names influenced by it, in a feature-length documentary called Never Surrender.

It debuts at New York Comic-Con and then we're looking at further distribution beyond that.

Some of the people we talked to included “Tim Allen (Toy Story), Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Sam Rockwell (Jojo Rabbit), Daryl Mitchell (NCIS: New Orleans), Justin Long (Dodgeball), Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl), and Rainn Wilson (The Office), plus director Dean Parisot (Bill & Ted Face the Music), screenwriter Robert Gordon (Men in Black II) and producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad), among other key members of the crew.”

Anime

Anime continued its growth effort in September. We spun up several large IPs (Seis Manos, Sound & Fury), as well as launched major revitalizations for upcoming tentpoles (Beastars, One Piece, etc.) We've secured our first handshake deals around official wikis, and will be launching our first batch of officially partnered sites in October.

Best Practices[]

This month, we only had one Best Practices blog, but it was an important one! It covered organizing your wiki. Be sure to check it out here.

Starting next month, we’ll have a new way to dive into discussion of Best Practices, so stay tuned!

Tech Updates[]

In September, we released several quality of life updates, including dark mode for the iOS app and Gamepedia wikis in community search.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Technical Updates board for these notices. They are also found in our verified editors Discord under #announcements-fandom.

Until then, keep up the great work, everyone!

As with all staff blogs, we are happy to take your questions about what we’ve discussed today! If you have a staff question about another topic or need support, please contact make a ticket.
