Happy Halloween, everyone!
As I’m typing this, I’m wearing my normal Halloween costume, so we’re in for a very festive recap :)
The Unified Community Platform[]
This month, we revealed that Fandom and Gamepedia will be coming together on a new software platform that is codenamed Unified Community Platform. This was followed up with a blog post revealing four features which have to be replaced due to non-viable, tangled code. To be clear, we are not deleting these features and moving on with nothing to fill the void. All of them are being replaced with newer versions which are compatible with a 7 years newer version of MediaWiki, the underlying software which runs the wiki platform.
Your feedback on these two blogs was extensive and we really appreciate that both sides are living up to the Community Contract. We are currently working through the feedback and applying it to our project plan. Rest assured that this is not even close to the end of the UCP updates.
Vertical Updates[]
Gaming
We continued to send out games, shirts, and other rewards to admins and editors on both platforms, most notably our GRASP members, as well as editors from The Outer Worlds and Call of Duty wikis.
The Gamepedia Fellowship has been formed as a Gamepedia-specific sister organization to the Community Council and will help our efforts to make the UCP awesome for all our users. Members of the Gamepedia Fellowship include several Council members and other paragons of the Gamepedia editing community.
The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne contest is over! Dart.011 won the grand prize and received a custom plushie of their creation, as well as a limited edition Iceborne statue
We broadcasted the Twitch World Premiere of GTFO, a new Official Wiki game, on the Gamepedia Twitch channel. If you’re not following Fandom and Gamepedia on Twitch, you should do so! We broadcast a lot of Official Wiki Partner games on the Gamepedia channel and host tournaments on the Fandom channel
TV/Movies
The fall TV season is here! The team is currently working on over 30 communities including Watchmen, where the team and the community are partnering to cover the highly anticipated new HBO series. New editors are making more and more edits all the time, pushing the community to the top of search results.
Not only is it Halloween season, but it’s also the time of year when our favorite Arrowverse superheroes return. Green Arrow, the Flash, and Supergirl have all returned to the CW, and this year they’re joined by Batwoman. To celebrate the new Arrowverse seasons, we’re running the Be A Hero Contest with 500+ entries received since it was launched.
Our content team covered New York Comic Con earlier in the month, and they included reveals and information presented at the convention in relevant communities. Fandom was also excited to premiere our new documentary, Never Surrender, about Galaxy Quest. Just in time for the upcoming Fathom Events screening of the film in November, our team updated the Galaxy Quest Wiki with a focus on promoting the documentary.
Last but not least, to celebrate the spooky season, we’re running a collaborative editing marathon event focused on horror called Project Monster Mash. Be sure to check it out if you love horror TV and movies!
Anime
It has been a whirlwind fall schedule for Anime at Fandom! Boku no Hero Academia started its 4th season, Fate/Grand Order is trending and Beastars is booming! Editors are on the rise, and the communities within new release mangas are growing.
Not to mention, we have officially secured our first partnered Anime wiki! We will be sharing all the details very soon. In the coming months we will be working with several publishers to officiate more wikis. Revitalization projects are currently underway!
Our team is already looking towards 2020! We are making moves to support all major Anime releases. In the meantime, do not forget to enter our Halloween giveaway! Posted in the staff blog is a list of all participating wikis and the prize packages.
Next month, look for Fandom at Jump Festa and Comiket! We will be wandering about in our official Fandom swag. Say hello!
