Hello all!

Welcome to the second edition of This Month at Fandom, our monthly digest of things you may have missed on the platform!

Let’s dive right in!

Big Announcements[]

This month, we announced two new programs. In early July, we opened the doors on our official Discord server for Fandom and Gamepedia editors. We now have over 1,000 members on the server and folks are enjoying the increased access to staff as well as cooperation with fellow editors from other wikis. If you haven’t checked it out yet, click the link above and get yourself online and verified!

We also announced the Fandom Official Community Partnership Program, bringing the very successful Official Wiki program on Gamepedia over to Fandom. Our first set of Official Wikis on Fandom have been great and we are very excited about all the interest from additional wikis to pursue partnerships with the studios and companies responsible for their associated properties!

A New Blog Series[]

July also saw the launch of our Best Practices blog series. We have been doing internal Best Practices sessions with members of the Growth Org for a little bit and FishTank took the initiative to take some of the learnings from these sessions and make them into a blog series for our editors and admins.

The first entry focused on Images That Engage and the second entry focused on better organizing nav bars for readers. In the future, we plan to have a special category link in our own nav bar for these posts.

Vertical Updates[]

Gaming

The gaming team is very excited about how things are progressing with Project Crossover, announced back in March.

Wikis for two big games began to self-organize their Crossovers in July, both of them joining forces with their Gamepedia counterparts: PUBG and Sea of Thieves. We are also working on new ways to make the results of Crossovers more obvious to interested editors, while continuing to allow the reading of the archived wikis.

TV/Movies

A familiar face rejoined the company this month. That’s right, BertH is back, this time as our TV/Movies Wiki Team Lead. He’ll be working with the vertical’s Wiki Managers, and we are so excited to have him working with us again! Please join us in welcoming Bert back to Fandom!

We started a photo contest to celebrate the release of the CGI Lion King remake. Check out the entries on the Disney wiki and Lion King wiki. The contest runs until August 12th. See the posts for more details!

We also ran a really fun scavenger hunt contest for Stranger Things, with 724 entrants completing the hunt!

Anime

Anime also had a big hire in July. Please welcome our first Anime Community Manager, ZoeCatfu, to Fandom! Zoe comes to us with lots of experience working with online communities and a ton of passion for anime. She is looking forward to working with our vibrant anime wiki communities!

Tech Updates[]

July had a couple of tech updates that we wanted to make sure you saw.

The first is the addition of text formatting to Discussions!

We also added support for Discord usernames in Profile headers, an addition which was required for how we handle user verification on the aforementioned Official Discord server. We hope you’ll find it useful for organizing with your fellow wiki editors on your Discord servers as well.

In case you missed it...[]

We threw another amazing party at San Diego Comic-Con!

Our very talented ScreenJunkies team earned their 4th Emmy nomination for Honest Trailers!

One More Thing[]

We received a great note from a long-time editor via ZenDesk this month. As a result of all his incredible work on the De Rode Ridder graphic novel wiki, Station7 will be featured in De Rode Ridder issue 263 as a character! What an incredible way for a wiki editor to be recognized by the folks who make the subject matter!

We all hope you had a great July and, if you’re gearing up to head back to school, that you have a great school year!

We’ll be back with This Month at Fandom on August 30th. Until then, keep being awesome!
