Hello, everyone!

Even though January has felt like half a year, it really was only one month and it's just about over! Let's take a look back at all the awesome things which happened in the past 31 days...

Community Connect 2020[]

For the first time since 2016, we held our signature Community Connect event. It was a fantastic opportunity to get 40 staff members in a room with 50 editors to discuss everything from the Unified Community Platform and Search Engine Optimization to cheesecake and which staff member would kill Jar-Jar Binks given the chance. The answer to that is Adil, our Chief Technology/Product Officer, who absolutely cannot stand that goofy Gungan. The long weekend at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida was incredibly productive and you can read more about it here!

Temtem is 10/10 for fun![]

The big surprise wiki for January was our Official Temtem Wiki on Gamepedia. The Pokemon-like massively multiplayer online game hit Early Access on Steam a little over a week ago and the wiki has absolutely EXPLODED since then. We are talking Minecraft levels of activity over that period of time. It is very clear that Temtem is a monster hit (pun intended) and we are super excited for the community as more content comes out!

Vertical Updates[]

Anime

What a year for anime! 2020 is going to be jam packed with incredible and highly anticipated releases. Looking to catch up? Here are a few of our recent favorites to binge on!

If you enjoy Ghibli, then you are going to love Somali and the Forest Spirit: “Ruled by spirits, goblins, and all manner of strange creatures. Human beings are persecuted, to the very point of extinction. One day, a golem and a lone human girl meet. It tells of their travels together and of the bond between father and daughter.”

Into the fast paced and adventurous spirit of Devilman Crybaby? Check out another Masaaki Yuasa directed series, KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF EIZOUKEN! This rollercoaster of a series kept me wired for hours. Thanks Masaaki!

Sorcerous Stabber Orphen is celebrating their 25th anniversary with a brand new remake! Into Fantasy and Dragons? Well, the wiki is up for adoption right now! Now is your chance to immerse yourself in this dystopian fantasy.

Tell us in the comments below, what anime releases are you looking forward to?

Gaming

In addition to the wild success of Temtem in January, we have exciting progress on two ongoing initiatives. We now have 168 completed Crossovers of English-speaking communities, with another 115 in progress and 945 still to be processed. Editor rewards continue to go out to our amazing community of editors weekly!

TV/Movies

Marked by Community Connect, this month has been pretty exciting for Movies/TV. Some of the most active contributors attended this event in Orlando and their feedback was super positive. Based on the feedback provided, we are going to work on some improvements in communication with our communities. Stay in touch because you will hear from our side soon! But that's not all!

We organized a Trivia Quiz Contest for the Series 12 of Doctor Who on Tardis Wiki, with great figures to win! Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts Wiki, one of our official wikis, is growing fast since the release of the series and now has 100+ pages and an expanding community. And the first episode of Star Trek: Picard was released and appears to be a critical success. Memory Alpha is taking good care of updating its content on this topic.Meanwhile, our Content Team was supporting official wikis like The Bachelor, Grey's Anatomy, Stumptown and Emergence, and several wikis including Sex Education and the return of both Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Movies/TV Wiki Managers were working on the merge of an old and popular community, Lost Wiki, leaving Lostpedia as the only one. Both were of about equal age, so these veterans communities are one from now, merging forces, content, and users! They also have been supporting all the other communities with important releases and keeping contact with more communities, don't feel shy and say hello to our wiki managers if you need anything!

Finally, the Star Wars sweepstakes have finished and we have a winner. This is one of the biggest prizes that we ever gave in Fandom, with a lightsaber, a Millennium Falcon Ultimate Collector Playset and a Luke Skywalker Sixth-Scale Figure.

Editors of the Month (and Year)[]

Since we took the opportunity to do a Year in Review back in December before we went on our holiday break, we did not take the time to celebrate the December Editors of the Month until now. For Gamepedia, there is also an Editor of the Year award, which is selected from the previous 12 months of Editor of the Month winners.

Until next time![]

That's all we have for January. Not a whole lot to talk about that isn't being discussed already. We have another blog about the Unified Community Platform being written right now and that should be out in the near future.

Until then, find your friendly neighborhood Community Connect attendee and ask them all about it! The event was NOT governed by a Non-Disclosure Agreement, so they are welcome and ENCOURAGED to share all of their thoughts about it.

Catch y'all on the flippity flip!
