At Wikia, being professional fans is something we take pretty seriously. Every day we get to provide a home for incredibly knowledgeable and useful content written by the biggest superfans in the world. Our passion is to serve your passions, and it's what motivates us to offer the very best fan experiences.
That's why we're excited to announce a brand new experience. What do I mean by that? Think of your favorite character. Maybe it's Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You can get everything you need to know about Rey from the largest Star Wars fan site in the world, Wookieepedia, or from one of many of our other Star Wars communities. But what if you also wanted to know about what's happening with the upcoming films? Or theories about where she came from and what her destiny is? Or what if you wanted to share how awesome of a character she is? There's not a natural place for that kind of content on our communities.
That's where Fandom comes in.
Fandom is a new media property that puts fans first. It was created for fans to give them everything they need to know about their favorite fandoms so they can share it with their friends around the world. It combines original editorial content, curated links from the best on the web, and content from Wikia's 360,000 communities. Not only does that let you get your voice across in a brand new way, but it continues to highlight the great work already being done on your communities.
We know so many of you will want to get involved, which is why we announced the Fan Contributor Program last month. Applying to be a Fan Contributor is easy, and you can do that here. If you join the program, you'll be able to share your work with the whole world, get professional editorial support from Wikia's editorial team, and maybe even join Wikia at live events like San Diego Comic-Con or E3 to interview your favorite stars and content creators. It can also serve as a stepping stone to a career in journalism or professional writing. How cool is that?
Fan Contributors have already started writing great content on Fandom. Two of the many examples include 10 Marvel DC/Characters That Are A Little Too Similar, by Drew Dietsch; and Star Wars Legends That Crept Into Canon, by Mike Delaney. These articles are seen by fans all around the world, and applying for the Fan Contributor Program means you might have that same opportunity.
Wikia has always been the home of fandom, and this next step only solidifies that -- and you get to help shape it.
