Hey gang!

The time has come to take a look back at an extra long February, thanks to Leap Day!

Community Chat with the CEO

Last week, Perkins Miller, CEO of Fandom, stopped by the Official Fandom and Gamepedia Editors Discord server to serve as February’s Ask Me Anything guest. Here is the transcript.

The server is open to registered users of Fandom and Gamepedia who are in good account standing. For more information on joining the server and the verification requirements, visit this page.

For those who don’t know, we hold an Ask Me Anything session with a member of Fandom staff every month. Previous guests have included Adam Bradford from D&D Beyond, Max Spector from Brand Design, and Michael Morgan from User Experience Research. Next month’s Ask Me Anything will be with Isaac Ugay, Vice President of Experiential. He was a popular request from Community Connect attendees after he talked about Fandom’s approach to conventions and other in-person events. Given the recent convention cancellations from illness, he’ll be a very interesting guest!

Unified Community Platform Update

As promised, we had a big update on the progress of the Unified Community Platform in February, giving everyone a look at the overall project scope, the way Phase 1 will be staged, some information on Phase 1 changes, and a look into our thinking about Phase 2 and beyond.

As we get closer to the first release of Phase 1, I will be walking you through some of the Phase 1 changes in greater detail, starting with the changes to how new wikis on Fandom are created. We have mockups to show off! Keep an eye out for that blog very soon.

Vertical Updates

Let’s check in with the vertical teams and see what February had in store for them…

We partnered with Capcom for a special Monster Hunter event at PAX called Monster Hunter Festa!

Kingdom Come Deliverance jumped back into the spotlight after the free giveaway on the Epic Games store. This is a fantastic and complex title, arm yourself with our wiki to stand a fighting chance!

Gamepedia is hosting a Zelda X Gamepedia art contest. Users make art featuring both Zelda universe and Gamepedia/Hydra imagery for a chance to win prizes.

The gaming team continues to seek out amazing editors and reward them with swag and free games! Thank you all so much for your amazing work making Fandom the destination for fans!

The great wiki Crossover project continues on! Hundreds down so far and more in progress!

TV and Movies

Our Doctor Who Trivia Quiz Contest ended. We’re ending at about 4.5 K unique visits and 1.8 k responses! We now launched our 3d contest in this community. You can take the new quiz to maybe earn new great prizes!

We also launched Project Yoda One for Valentine’s Day and users collaborated on 4 romance-themed wikis!

Furthermore, Locke & Key was a huge success! Our Community Manager and content team worked hard on Locke & Key, betting on the show to be a success, and all their hard work was rewarded. Locke & Key had been our number 1 trending community and we went from 3,081 pageviews the day before the premiere to 283,946 pageviews the day after the premiere! This is a 9116% growth!

The Clone Wars season 7 was released on February 21 and we worked on Wookieepedia’s discussions as a place to give voice to our fans.

Finally, we are currently contacting our top communities to obtain feedback about last year and know their expectations about this year and the UCP.

Still keeping up with your New Year's resolutions to watch every new Anime release? That was not your resolution? Well, it should have been! Let’s do some catching up here.

Ever consider volleyball to be the equivalent of full on tactical warfare? This middle school totally does! Season 4 of Haikyuu! dropped last month.

Addicted to catching Pokemon like our CM is? Well, Pokémon: Twilight Wings, a mini series about Pokémon Sword and Shield hit release in January.

Ever imagine what life would be like if you were to live in the world your favorite book is set in? This coming month, we have Ascendance of a Bookworm! We are starting up Season 2 on the 10th. Follow a young girl who passed in an earthquake as she navigates a new world based on her favorite books after being reincarnated!

Lastly, this may be worth mentioning, we are working on recategorizing the Anime vertical so we can change the explore page from “Comics” to “Anime”. It will take some time, so bear with us!

Editors of the Month

And, finally, it’s time to dole out some honors for incredible editors from February!

The Gamepedia Editor of the Month is GroundedAura for their work on Temtem and Happy Birthdays wikis!

The Esports Editor of the Month is GlaewethXD for quickly jumping into editing and taking charge of LoL’s CIS region.

The Fandom Gaming Editor of the Month is GpaSarge6 for their hard work on the Bubble Gum Simulator Wiki, as well as a host of other wikis they mod and work on!

TV and Movies

The TV and Movies Editor of the Month is Natalie j for her work in the Vampire Diaries wiki. This user puts a lot of effort into updating novel articles. She also spends a lot of time reverting spam and vandalism where seen, while also taking appropriate action to warn administrators of it.

The Anime Editor of the Month is Umeiryo for consistently keeping up with categorizing and organizing content on the Haikyuu wiki. Without her assistance, the Haikyuu wiki would not be the same!

Emerging Interests

The Emerging Interests Editor of the Month is BigBadBrad01 for his incredible leadership of the Hot Wheels wiki. If you haven’t checked it out, the Hot Wheels wiki is a fantastic collectibles resource.

That’s it for our extra long February. We hope you made the most of your Leap Day. Be on the lookout for exciting Unified Community Platform news very soon!
