Hello, editors!

Back in April, when we announced the formation of the Growth Organization, we teased 5 things, the pillars of our 2019 work:

  • Platform improvements, addressing major community wants and needs
  • New wiki-focused features and editor tools
  • In-person and digital events to connect with our awesome community members
  • Better ways to recognize and reward awesome editors
  • Better ways for contributors to communicate with staff

To date, we’ve announced the first steps on 3 of those 5 things: platform improvements, wiki-focused features and editor tools, and better ways for contributors to communicate with staff. Today, I am happy to announce our first steps on the 4th pillar: Editor Rewards.

Editor Rewards[]

All summer, we have been piloting new ways to recognize and reward our awesome editors. These have included free movie tickets, free video games, collectibles from favorite franchises, passes to limited events, custom wiki t-shirts, and some very special hoodies.

To date, we have sent or are in the process of sending rewards to over 200 editors worldwide, but that is just the beginning. The way we select editors for rewards varies quite a bit, depending on the vertical, franchise, content release, etc., so if you haven’t been selected for a reward yet, please don’t take it personally! As we have told the editors who have been part of this pilot phase, these are our first steps towards proper recognition of their incredible contributions on Fandom and Gamepedia.

Editor of the Month[]

In that spirit, I am very excited to announce the start of Fandom’s new Editor of the Month program! An important program on Gamepedia since 2015, Editor of the Month is exactly what it sounds like — recognition of the best editor for a given month. On Fandom, we will do things a bit differently than on Gamepedia, as it is very difficult to select just one editor on Fandom for special recognition. As such, we will award Fandom’s Editor of the Month on a vertical basis:

  • Editor of the Month - Gaming
  • Editor of the Month - TV/Movies
  • Editor of the Month - Anime
  • Editor of the Month - Other Interests

Each Editor of the Month will receive a special top editor hoodie! Editors of the Month for each vertical, Gamepedia, and Gamepedia Esports will be announced monthly in the This Month at Fandom blog post. The first Fandom Editors of the Month will be selected in September.

One More Thing[]

Haven’t managed to get your hands on some cool stuff from Fandom yet? We’ll have more about opportunities for you coming soon . . .

As with all announcements, we are happy to take your questions about what we’ve discussed today! If you have a staff question about another topic or need support, please make a ticket.
