Questions or feedback? Contact us!

Hiya! After Antonio was kind enough to publish our last tech blog, I'm back to go over the changes that happened in the past two weeks and those that are imminent. As is standard with this series, we update you on a bi-weekly basis to inform you all about some of the more user-facing bug updates, experiment, productizations, and platform changes. The comment section also serves as an excellent opportunity for you to ask questions or report issues yourself as well.

Notable Changes[]

Platform safety has been a high priority for Fandom, which has resulted in changes such as emailconfirmation for every logged-in user and a restriction to anonymous editing among others. In a continued effort to stay on top of user and brand safety, Fandom updated its Community Creation Policy with the following entry:

Fandom does not permit the following types of communities or content:
  • [...]
  • Wikis focused on topics intended for children must maintain an age-appropriate environment free of mature content.

This is a platform-wide rule, applying to both canon, fanon, and roleplaying wikis alike, as well as Discussions and other social content. If you have questions about a specific wiki or situation, please contact Fandom Staff.

Recent Fixes[]

  • Special:Insights didn't render on Community Central.
  • MW 1.43: Dev scripts are failing platform-wide
  • Changing the zoom level of the browser added unnecessary extra edit buttons on an embedded Interactive Map.
  • Zoom on an embedded Interactive Map marker was wrongfully triggered every time a user entered and exited the map's fullscreen mode.

Fixes in Development[]

  • When a wiki is using the Fandom brand colors, the notification counter and Search Bar blends into horizontal navigation.
  • The Profile Panel accessible by clicking your user profile icon doesn't always open when navigating through different pages on Discussions.

Development Updates[]

Consumer Tools[]

Product Support Owner: Héctor
  • [Feature Research] Search tool for Interactive Maps: For the better part of last year, the Consumer Tools team has been focused on building out the functionality offered within Interactive Maps. They're still continuing that goal by working on a search function for markers. However, to make sure the tool meets editor needs, there is an ongoing request for feedback on the possible designs in the #maps channel within the Fandom Discord. If you'd like to weigh in, please head over and join the discussion.

User Experience (UXFCP) Team[]

  • Tech Blog April 4, 2025 - Mobile Drawer game stats widget mocks

Mobile Drawer "Game Stats" widgets mocks – collapsed and expanded

[Upcoming Experiment] Desktop and Mobile Drawer game stats widget. The idea of this widget is simple: presenting compelling game stats for relevant games to relevant wiki audiences. Rather than launching another page like most widgets, this widget will launch a new expanded state of the drawer. As such, users are presented with a larger module with statistics with which they can interact.
  • [Release] Desktop and Mobile Drawer "Similar Pages" widget. Through collaboration with a third party, this new widget will present the viewer with a set of "recommended pages" for an individual page based roughly on "content similarity" – hence the name of this widget being "Similar Pages". Just like with the other widgets, the goal here is to present readers with more content on sight that they may be interested in to explore further based on their displayed interests.

That's it for the issue! Per usual, if you encounter something that feels off about the platform, please report it by sending in a bug report, reach out to your Community Manager, contact the Product Support Owner on their Wall/talk page, or just simply sound off in the comments here. Remember to include a link to where you're experiencing the issue, a screenshot if it is something visible, as well as steps to reproduce your issue. As always, thank you for helping us by continuing to communicate. Happy editing, everyone!
