Hey hey, you amazing people! Progress tracking has been a hot topic for a while on Interactive Maps and, more recently, on tables. However, this progress is tracked in isolation, only visible from the page in question. Your interactions and history disappear unless you know where to look, and even if you do, it's often fragmented and not particularly welcoming. Your contributions page displays your editing and social history, but it doesn't show your progress. Until now! Let me introduce My Fandom: a home base for all your progress and engagement activity.

What and why: V1 features[]

My Fandom - desktop and mobile

Let's start with the "what is it." At this moment, My Fandom's functionality is limited to three main sections:

  1. Interactive Maps, including progress tracked on map checkboxes.
  2. Progress Tracking, for now, table progress checkboxes.
  3. History, which is mirrored from the left navigation on desktop but lacked a "home" and was completely unavailable on mobile. (Note: Safari in general + any browser on iOS device will not display "History")

You'll also be able to switch between light and dark themes straight from My Fandom. Your landing page is a full overview of your engagement on all wikis, activated by the All Communities filter, but you can also opt for a more detailed view that only shows your activity on a wiki you've previously visited or interacted with.

The current functionality is limited, but there is a simple reason for that: We needed a central, low-stakes, high-utility destination that's useful now (e.g. show the results of tracking your progress) and expandable later (e.g. adding more utility features, like collections/bookmarks). That's what My Fandom currently is: a tracking hub with just enough structure and flexibility to support expansion. This is just the beginning, but let's come back to that later.

Who and how: access point[]

My Fandom - desktop and mobile access point

While progress tracking is visible to logged-out users, it's only by creating an account and being logged in that you can enjoy its fullest potential. As My Fandom becomes the hub of your logged-in user experience, its access link is placed within the profile section (upper-right on both desktop and mobile). On mobile, this button will replace the previous prompt for FanCentral. Alternatively, you can access it directly by navigating to https://fandom.com/my-fandom.

For now, we're happy to let people discover the hub organically without too much of a push. We're excited to see how you use it, what's still missing, and to keep tweaking and adding as we go. So, what would you like to see? Let us know!

Near and far: future ideas[]

Adding personal utility features has been, and will continue to be, a strong guide in the creation of new features on Fandom. Our goal is simple: to make your Fandom journey easier to track, more personal, and more rewarding every time you log in.

As said before, My Fandom is an answer to a current need, but it's not the end goal. Over time, we may change the navigation, filter options, or structure of where features exist in response to your feedback. For now, we've tried to create a natural place for more utilities that will be layered in over time (such as bookmarks — yes, we haven't forgotten about that request!). Ultimately, we want to provide you with new features that are right there with you, right when you need them.

Now this is also where all of you can help us shape the future of personal utility on Fandom: we'd love to hear what tools and features, like progress tracking, you'd find most useful to make your Fandom experience even better! Please drop us a comment with your idea or share your feedback via Zendesk.
