Hey everyone! My name is Jennifer Pearson, but you can call me JP or Jen. I’m Fandom’s new Sr. Community Manager, Creator Outreach, and I’m thrilled to be here. I joined the team in February 2022, and it’s fitting that my love for Fandom’s community has continued to grow since my first day—which was Valentine’s Day!

What’s my story?[]

I’m Jen, and I live on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, but I genuinely consider myself an ATLien. Many movies, including one of my favorites, Black Panther, have been filmed in Atlanta. If I’m not cooking my favorite foods, I’m binging my favorite fandoms or illustrating. I also watch a ton of KDrama’s, so feel free to suggest others I should add to my watchlist.

I have a pretty interesting professional background that combines digital marketing, community management, and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). I’ve been a champion for women in technology, leadership development, and DEI.

What do I do at Fandom, exactly?[]

Great question! I’m on the Community Experience team and will be reporting to John Todd. I’ll partner on community initiatives, manage communications, and launch a creator recognition program! That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I have the pleasure of building and launching an upcoming creator recognition program and developing strategies to empower the community. I’ll work closely with a few of your favorite people like Mandy and Hector to develop inclusive and powerful programming. I think you’re going to enjoy it! I’ll also be responsible for managing the community staff blog and creator communications, which means you’ll hear from me pretty often about upcoming news, events, and much more.

My favorite fandoms[]

I have a unique list of fandoms that continues to grow. VEEP, Law & Order, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is definitely on the list. I enjoy good HBO series like Succession, Insecure, and VEEP. Law & Order and Star Trek are pretty nostalgic for me as my father introduced them to me, and I’m hooked after all these years. Finally, I watch more anime than my friends and family can fathom and draw inspiration from there. I’m a sucker for a great storyline and relatable character!

As you can tell, I like a bit of everything and love to talk about it. Did I mention I’m really into anime? I have fond memories of coming home from school and watching Gundam Wing, Ruroni Kenshin, and DBZ on Toonami every weekday.

I don’t want to take you too far down memory lane, but shift your focus to the future we’re going to create together.

I can't wait to connect with the community.[]

I can’t wait to connect with everyone and learn about your fandoms, how you structure your communities, and ways we can create spaces to support and recognize fans of all backgrounds. I will take all of you on a journey as we continue to grow and celebrate the community. I’ll keep you apprised of important updates and initiatives coordinated by the Fandom team and powered by you. To be honest, this is my dream job, and I’m so happy to be surrounded by brilliant and kind community leaders. It brings me joy to hear Fandom team members share their love for what they do, and I’m excited to hear your stories too!

I have an AMA in the works, but you can certainly send me a message on Discord (Jpearson#5169), tweet me (@iamjenpearson), or leave a comment below!
