Hey everyone! Check out the latest Technical Updates since November 3rd. We’ll continue to update the editor community on bug fixes and product development updates on a bi-weekly basis!
Notable Changes[]
- Editors reported a cacheless refresh of the page after reporting a Quick Answer caused no "report issue" or "already reported" text to appear on any of the QAs. We’ve found a solution, and we’re happy to share that this bug is fixed!
- Editors reported a bug as they received n+1 number of notifications while only n would be visible for Reported Notifications. Within the notification center, editors will see the number of notifications next to the “Fandom” label is related to number of unread notifications in the panel.
- When commenting on a specific page has been disabled, moderators lost their moderation abilities to still do something with the comment. Editors also lost the ability to report a comment. Now, Mod+ users will retain the ability to moderate comments in any way on pages where commenting has been disabled. Non-mod users will maintain the ability to report a comment on such pages.
- When editing on mobile, two related issues occurred for users: some text on the page is lost when saving, and some text deleted from the page is restored after saving. We’re happy to announce that we found a solution for this tricky fix! Text will not be lost after saving and deleted text will not be restored.
Known Issues[]
- Editors have reported that the 2017 editor freezes when saving an edit. We’re continuing to work through a fix and will keep the community updated!
- Template pages created by the new InfoboxBuilder do not have the example infobox for editors to reference. We hope to have this bug, which proved more complicated than originally expected, solved soon. Stay tuned!
Development Updates[]
User-Generated Content (UGC) team[]
- Thanks extension is in testing. Thanks Extension is coming to all communities soon! Thanks is an extension that allows editors to thank others for specific edits on wikis. We’ve tested this feature with nearly 10% of the Fandom platform and we can't wait for the community to enjoy this upcoming release. Check out the Thanks help page to learn more about the feature and stay tuned for the official release announcement!
- Reported Notifications. Reported Notifications is live! We’re happy to share this necessary and highly requested release with the community. Moderators were not notified in any way when social content on their wikis was reported. The UGC team developed notifications alerting moderators of content that needs their attention, which will decrease the average time it takes for reported content to be actioned. We’ve rolled out this feature to all wikis that have at least one social feature enabled. You can learn more about Reported Notifications on the latest Community Central blog!
Traffic team[]
- Quick Answers. Our Traffic and UGC teams are continuing to work on editing tools for Quick Answers, which we aim to release before the end of the year. You can read more about what that entails and how you can engage with Quick Answers.
If there’s anything you still think needs to be fixed that hasn’t yet, please be sure to either contact your Wiki Representative or, if your wiki doesn’t have one, send us a bug report!
