An acquaintance of mine has proposed an interesting theory about the new look, and I thought I'd share it. The theory states that Wikia is going to be bought by Facebook, and Wikia staff have already made the deal or are in the process of making the deal. To mesh with Facebook, they need a particular look and feel (Oasis). In order to reduce the flak that Facebook would catch if they bought the company and made the changes afterwards, they're making the changes themselves to lessen animosity towards Facebook when Wikia is bought. This also explains the restrictive new Terms of Use; they can't integrate with Facebook properly if users are changing or eliminating features that were designed specifically for the integration.
