Hello everyone! It's me again with another technical update! Lostris will be back for the next one, but in the meantime, I'm here to share the most relevant platform changes—including major product releases. As always, feel free to leave your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions in the Comments section. I genuinely enjoy reading what you all have to say!

Notable Change[]

[Product Release] This week marks the rollout of a long-anticipated feature: Progress Tracking for tables! This new tool lets you track your personal progress on wiki tables—whether it's completing actions in a video game, watching TV show episodes, or reading chapters of a book. If you're browsing a table with useful information like collectibles, achievements, or missions, this feature helps you keep track of what you've already done and plan your next steps.

Table progress tracking

We've started rolling out this feature on a selection of volunteer wikis, enabling it on any relevant table across their pages. Building on the success of a similar tool on Interactive Maps last year—and thanks to your valuable feedback—we saw a clear opportunity to extend this functionality to tables, one of the most widely used elements on our wikis.

To help you get started, we've published a new Help Page with everything you need to know about using and implementing this feature. We encourage you to apply it to the tables on your wiki that are most useful for progress tracking. If the feature isn't enabled in your community yet, feel free to reach out to me and I'll help get it enabled.

In the coming days, we'll be sharing more information and working closely with a few of our beloved communities to gather feedback and make further improvements to ensure the best possible user experience.

Recent Fixes[]

  • When you're navigating through a small screen, the Table of Contents could sometimes get pushed under the infobox if it doesn't fit within the same space as the infobox. This causes a large blank space to appear between the introduction, and the TOC itself. We have fixed this issue by changing the minimum width of the TOC, reducing it in small screens.
  • We recently detected that the popup showing surveys was appearing above the notification panel, covering it and worsening the user experience. We recently found a solution to avoid this element to cover the panel by changing its position.
  • Yesterday we detected several issues that made some images not loading on wikis. We quickly found a solution and fixed the problems with them.

Fixes in Development[]

While Comments remain a valuable feature for many users, some communities have raised concerns about the quality of certain posts. We already offer the option to disable them where appropriate, and moving forward, we're taking additional steps to enhance user safety and content quality.

We're currently working on a change that will hide comments from logged-out users and anonymous visitors by default. Instead, they'll see a message letting them know comments are available and encouraging them to log in or create an account to view and participate.

This change presents a good opportunity for fans to get more involved—encouraging them to take that first step, join the conversation, and connect with others who share their passions.

Development Updates[]

Consumer Tools[]

  • [Product Update] Discussion quizzes removal: As mentioned in our previous technical update, we have now removed the ability to create and edit new Quizzes in Discussions. This decision was made due to a recently discovered technical vulnerability, combined with low usage of the feature. Don't worry—existing quizzes can still be viewed and completed.

User Experience (UXFCP) Team[]

Mocks of the experimented design changes

As mentioned in our latest technical update, the team has been experimenting with design adjustments to the navigation and left content panels—such as relocating sections, introducing new panels, and updating typography. After thorough testing, we found that these changes had no negative impact on the user experience. Since the goal was to enhance usability, we've decided to move forward with fully implementing these improvements.

Mobile Team[]

  • Last year, we refreshed the Fandom logo across the platform to mark our 20th anniversary. Since then, we've continued updating visual assets following that milestone. However, the Fandom app was still displaying the previous icon. The team has now updated the app icon to align it with the rest of the platform, ensuring a consistent brand experience.

That's it for the issue! Per usual, if you encounter something that feels off about the platform, please report it by sending in a bug report, reach out to your Community Manager, contact the Product Support Owner on their Wall/talk page, or just simply sound off in the comments here. Remember to include a link to where you're experiencing the issue, a screenshot if it is something visible, as well as steps to reproduce your issue. As always, thank you for helping us by continuing to communicate. Happy editing, everyone!
