Community Central

Hey everyone!

Time really does fly and 2022 is zooming right along! Can you believe it’s already February? The Community Team has a lot of exciting initiatives in the works, and throughout this year, we’re going to be providing ‘only on Fandom’ experiences for you all. From information to events to opportunities to interact with your favorite fandoms (and discover new ones), we are thrilled to show you what we have planned.

To kick things off, we invite you to celebrate, enjoy, and discover old faves and hidden gems as Fandom enters into Black History Month.

More about Black History Month

Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month, is an observance period in the United States for remembering and recognizing important people and events in the history of the African-American community, as well as their achievements and contributions to the progress of the country.

It started as a week-long celebration in 1926, with a primary focus of encouraging the history of Black Americans to be taught in the nation's public schools. Growing its popularity throughout the following decades, it was eventually extended to the entire month of February in 1970, before finally being recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976 and celebrated across institutions and community centers.

Our initiatives

During the month of February, we encourage all Fandom creators, users, and readers to think about the powerful legacy Black creators of all types (writers, actors, video game developers) have had in establishing some of your favorite fandoms and characters. Additionally, you can also support Black-Owned businesses and donate to charities or organizations working to fight racism and improve equality and diversity.

In this blog, we’re highlighting recent TV shows, movies, video games, comics, and artists impacted by Black creators. We hope that you spend some time diving deep into some of the IPs that made 2021 such a memorable year. You might even discover a new obsession! This blog is only the starting point, and we’re also preparing some fun initiatives for later this month. Make sure to join our Discord server, as well as follow our @FandomWikis Twitter account, for important news and updates about them!
