Community Central

Hi everyone! A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to host 26 admins from all over the world here in our San Francisco offices as part of our first ever Community Connect event, and we’re pleased to report that it surpassed even our own expectations! What a special treat it was to be able to “connect” with all of the visiting admins, learn from them, and spend time together in person!

Welcome Session with Craig

Welcome session, day one

Who attended Community Connect?

We had a fabulous group of admins in attendance, from communities as diverse as Star Wars, American Horror Story, Avatar, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and more. Our visiting admins came from both near and far, as well -- we had admins in attendance from as close as a few miles down the road, as well as from around the US, and the world! Hong Kong, Brazil, Japan, Canada, Belgium, Russia, Spain, the UK and Germany were all represented at the summit. Want to learn more about who was in attendance? Head over to our Community Connect Wikia!

What did we talk about?

Everything :-) In addition to walking through our short and long term plans and ideas, we talked about content portability, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), infoboxes, apps, how new features are produced, and more. The best part? Direct feedback from the admins in attendance. Although we on the Community team are always sharing your thoughts, suggestions and requests to the rest of the Wikia team, it was especially meaningful for our SF crew to hear directly from the admins themselves. If you weren’t in attendance, don’t worry -- we videotaped many of the presentations and feedback sessions, and you can check them out on the individual session pages on our Community Connect Wikia. We even have session summary notes available for some sessions in Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Portuguese!

What's Next?

Based on the success of Community Connect this year, we will definitely try to make this a regular thing. Stay tuned for more info from me in the future!Thank you to all of the admins who took time out of their busy lives to spend time with us. Your feedback and input means a lot to us, and we are so happy to have had the opportunity to meet the 26 visiting admins in person.
