Small tags in the Oasis skin Edit

Hi Rappy! In the forum, you mentioned that a fix for the <small></small> tags not working in the Oasis skin (yech!) was the addition of the following code:

small { font-size: 85%; }
to MediaWiki:Wikia.css. But, is there a particular place you suggest? How should I head it up? Would this be okay:

/* Small font with <small></small> tags */
small {
    font-size: 85%;

Since most users at our wiki use the Monobook skin, this has not really been an issue. However, I’d still like the fonts to appear correctly for those few who are using the Oasis skin. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 09:19, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Please respond here, as I am following your talk page. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 09:20, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

This should only be a temporary fix until Wikia gets their CSS hamsters working again. /* Smaller fonts */ for a header works just fine and can be left even when Wikia fixes their end. When Oasis first released, <small> didn't apply to font-size. My wiki CSS files were altered accordingly and I never noticed when they made the change.
Place the code you pasted here anywhere in Wikia.css (as long as it starts on a new line). Rappy 09:30, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

(←outdent) Thanks Rappy! I ended up inputting it as follows:

/* Smaller fonts */
small {
    font-size: smaller

Then I switched skins, had a look, and it seems fine. Thanks again! — SpikeToronto 10:17, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

Tagline JS Wiki-navigation Edit

I tried doing as you said in the forum, but instead of appearing above randompage and wikiactivity, it appeared in the wikia menu. I put the ja code here, but it's still on the menu, so I took it off the wiki-navigation for a while. What should I do? --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 10:16, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

It's nearly impossible to say without seeing what it's doing when it's enabled. Please enable it and let me know so I can see what you see. Also, you should think about templating your signature. It's 10x bigger than the message you left me. Rappy 18:22, June 1, 2011 (UTC)
Now it's in Wiki-navigation, but instead of appearing above Wiki Activity and Random Page, it's in the Wiki Navigation. Check both pages out. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 03:55, June 2, 2011 (UTC)
According to [1] it's not there. Rappy 16:14, June 2, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply... According to this, this, and this it was bit I took it off because it just becomes another drop-down menu and makes the nav look ugly. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 03:17, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I can't help you with what it's doing unless it's actually there so I can see what it's doing. If you want me to figure out the issue, add the code back in and let me find out what's causing it. Rappy 07:05, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the very late reply I was bussy, I added the code to the wiki navigation it won't work. Check it out now please, I don't want others seeing SP's wiki-navigation like that. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 03:26, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
Ok It's now actually on Songpedia. Now why did it destroy the Wiki-navigation? --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 12:06, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
Your JS is not removing/replacing it like it's supposed to. My best bet is that the code to remove it is trying to remove it before the page loads, but that doesn't make any sense. Change the code to this.
$(function() {
   $('#WikiHeader > nav > ul > li:last').hide();
Clear your cache and tell me what it's doing. Rappy 16:07, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
It still did not work. I can't seem to fix it, even if I cleared my cache. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 02:10, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

(reset indent) Well, seeing how you won't leave the code in there so I can figure out what's causing it, I guess you're just better off not using the code. It works perfectly fine with the code I gave you on another wiki. I'd like to find out what is causing it, but you refuse to leave the code up longer than a day to figure out what the issue is. Rappy 06:25, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

Ok sorry, I'll refuse to give the code up longer than a day. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 08:10, June 12, 2011 (UTC)
It's in Songpedia again, I cleared my cache a dozen times, and it stays on the Wiki-navigation menus. --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 11:45, June 12, 2011 (UTC)
As you have noticed with your alert, Wikia.js isn't loading for whatever reason. Remove the importScriptPage for Purge (it's loading in Common) and remove rewriteTitle(); from common.js. If, for whatever reason, it still doesn't work after you make those changes... try moving it to common.js with a check on the skin.
$(function() {
   if (skin == 'Wikia') {
     $('#WikiHeader > nav > ul > li:last').hide();
If it loads then but not in Wikia.js, contact Wikia to find out why your Wikia.js isn't loading. Hopefully it works when you remove the errors. Rappy 16:08, June 13, 2011 (UTC)
It didn't work so I'll contact staff? --.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 02:40, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not seeing any reason for the code not to be loading in Wikia.js. The check on the skin is redundant in Wikia.js. Wikia.js should only load for Wikia. Remove that block of code and place it in common.js instead and see if it loads from there. If it does, I'd contact staff because it seems your Wikia.js isn't loading. When you're moving that around, remove the import of the Purge Button in Wikia.js (it's loading in Common) and remove the rewriteTitle(); from Common.js (it's a function call without a function to call). Drop me a line here when you've done that so I can see if that's changed anything. Rappy 05:12, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
It didn't work, I cleared my cache a dozen times after transferring the code to Common.js. There wasn't any problems with any other js codes, all of them works except for the tagline code.
--.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 03:12, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

(reset indent) When you're having issues like this and you're trying to find out what is causing it, move the code from one file to the other... not copy it. If it does finally start working, you still have no clue which code is working and which one isn't. Remove ALL code from Wikia.js and change the code in Common.js to if (skin == 'oasis') instead. I forgot they changed it. Rappy 04:37, June 15, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I'll try that even tough I don't really know how to move it with file. But, yeah! I know how to save it as a file but not add it there as a file.
--.Nobody Cares .TalkContribs. 01:25, June 16, 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, nothing seems to work, mind if I'll just take it off.

Okay, Rappy, since you are the only person I can get hold of.

I have some js here. What code would I use to link the divs to their respective pages?    ǝsʞpɐןǝ  (message wall)  19:41, 10/06/2011

Don't vandalize Edit

You've been vandalizing my talk page calling a comment inappropriate. If it was inappropriate I would have removed it. Please do not change what other people have written. If you continue to do this I will have to tell a Wikia Staff/Helper/VSTF. kangaroopowahTalk 20:53, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Actually, that is considered spam and is not an appropriate use of talk pages. Report me if you want, but if you really need a spam message on your talk page to make you feel better about yourself... all the power to you. Rappy 00:35, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
Btw i don't understand your talk page policy, should I reply here. I had kept it the way you left it. But on Randomtime's or someones he just said hi and you deleted it. Why?kangaroopowahTalk 00:43, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
Talk pages aren't for random conversation. On Community, they are more geared towards issues relating to Wikia and or coding help. They are not used for e-mail or IM type dialogue. dsrocks has been spamming talk pages with random/idle dialogue all over community. This is not the place for that. Rappy 01:43, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, is this where is should respond anyways?kangaroopowahTalk 02:11, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
It differs with the user it seems. I prefer to keep the conversation on one tab instead of two... so when responding, I respond where the conversation is. Much easier to read and follow at a later date. Rappy 02:20, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Thank You Edit

Help Edit

I tried using one of your scripts on my wiki, can you help me activate it/ get it to pop-up.

- Lord of Pyrus

If you want to put an apostrophe in a message, you have to use \' instead of '. Otherwise, the JS breaks.  Monchoman45  Talk  Contribs  Skystone  03:32,8/4/2011
Thanks Monchoman. I would suspect it's the ' character in the message as well. 25's should be changed to 25\'s to 'escape' the ' character so the JavaScript doesn't think that it marks the end of the string. Rappy 06:33, August 4, 2011 (UTC)

A JS question Edit

Would it be possible to create a new box on the rail in oasis using js called Notifications and letting it show on all pages. Kinda like editing the box that says the number of pages on the wiki but instead making a completely new box and editing that using js. Thanks, Kangaroopowah   Talk  20:09,8/28/2011

Possible? Yes. Against ToU? Yes. Me creating it for you? No. Rappy 20:12, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Do you have an editor hack to make topnav and search show in it? I think you had one for the Admin dash. Thanks, --Kangaroopowah   Talk  04:30,10/4/2011

JS question Edit

I notice the RTE fubar's frequently on <tags> it doesn't inherently recognize (or that it has been coded to recognize/convert). I imagine <dd>/<dl> lists are one of those sets of codes. A <dd>/<dl> list is easily done with wiki text and there is no reason to over-complicate that process by manually using those tags. Rappy 04:40, November 8, 2011 (UTC)

Expanded Wiki Navigation Edit

Hi, I saw how you edit the new expanded wiki navigation on Aion wiki, I'm interested in how you did that. I tried to peep on your js/css but I couldn't find the exact codes, can you be so kind to tell me what I have to look for? Thank you! leviathan_89 19:09, 15 October, 2011 (UTC)

It's slightly complicated to make it work completely fluidly. I was waiting for the actual release of the feature before telling others how to do the same. Otherwise, with the changes Wikia makes before the final release, my walk-through will require quite a few tweaks to still make it fluid. I'm honestly not wanting to be bogged down with requests to fix others' navigations because of this. If you're willing to wait until Wikia's official release, I will write a blog explaining how to implement the 4th level navigation. Rappy 01:27, October 16, 2011 (UTC)
Sure! Thanks, I'll wait for the blog. leviathan_89 10:48, 16 October, 2011 (UTC)

Just a reminder, but when you think the code can be safely shared tell me! I'll wait anyway. leviathan_89 22:52, 20 January, 2012 (UTC)

My Signature Edit

Hello Rappy 4187. I noticed that you changed my signature without asking me first. This means I have now undone your change. I'm in the process of creating my new signature and had not got around to removing the excess "padding:" codes etc. yet. I don't know if others' let you edit their signatures, but I don't let other people change my sig. Warning cliche coming: How would you like it if I was to completely muck up your signature? Oh didn't I point that out; you stuffed it. Did you really think that I was going to leave your changes in, even though they stuffed my signature? Give me a break.

Now can I ask that you leave my signature page alone. I hardly edit on CC anyway! (Mostly comment pages anyway!) Plus I don't know if you have thought at all about the fact that there may be a reason behind my madness? Probably not, but here it is: Message_Wall is coming in soon, and no one is going to care one way or the other if I have a huge code block to make my sig, since no-one edits each others' posts. I even added html comments to the code for users like you that wouldn't cope. (Wow I'm clairvoyant!)

Now to stop you from changing my signature on your talkpage I'll be signing with a template, but don't let this fool you: I have no intention to stop using my signature.

PS I'm sad really, because you were helpful with my highlight ideas...

Starfleet Academy (Messages) 06:47, February 10, 2012 (UTC)

My (half) apologies. I didn't wait for you to post on my Message_Wall. But the two signatures were not the same! And I still don't want others to edit my Sig page. See my message wall, and my reply to God for more details.

Help with signature templating Edit

Hi Rappy. I don't even know why you should help me, but I've still got issues with my sig. When I sign it SUBST:s my user-sub-page with the result of:

{{SUBST:User:Starfleet Academy/Sig|05:58, 14 Feb, 2012 UTC}}. This does show up as a signature on CC, but not on other wikis. Any suggestions? :( Starfleet Academy (Messages) 06:08, 14 Feb, 2012 UTC

It's because the page User:Starfleet Academy/Sig doesn't exist at Math Wiki. You have to create it at each wiki you plan to use it on. Monchoman45 had some code that was added to the signature section of preferences that checked for the template and signed normally if it didn't exist. You could ask him what that code is/was. Rappy 06:12, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
Hey thanks for the info. I did actually work this one out since I didn't check back here soon enough. The code sounds interesting. I guess it would be done with parameters and pipes. I will ask Monchoman45. Big thanks Rappy :) Starfleet Academy (Messages) 06:35, 14 Feb, 2012 UTC
It has to do with {{#ifexist:}}. Rappy 07:26, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
LOL! Yeah I was going to/should have said: "I guess it would be done with parameters, pipes and other codes etc." But your right, I was thinking that one could do it {{{1|with this part}}}, (so thinking aloud would cover it). :) Starfleet Academy (Messages) 09:10, 14 Feb, 2012 UTC

Infobox coding Edit

Hey Rappy, I saw that you spoke on my forum about my issue. Just to let you know, I had added the closing |}} but at the bottom of the page, although I don't know whetherthat was right. Do you know muc h about SMW, and will you be able to help me out further?--Technobliterator 21:15, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

If you're copying code from another wiki, ask them how to get it to work. That's the easiest way to get your question answered. They know the inter-workings of what you're trying to accomplish. I'd have to delve in for a bit just to even begin to understand what you're trying to do. Look here for more information on the function. Rappy 21:33, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
It's all right then, (btw I've looked at that page countless times :P), thanks for the help. I'll go ask the guy who made it, but hte problem is the original creator doesn't know much about SMW. Thanks for the help anyway!--Technobliterator 21:37, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

Typical cliché Edit

AWB isn't that hard to do. For template changes, select "What transcludes page (all NS)" then type in the page name. Click "Make list". Once you have your list, what you wanted was a simple "Find and replace". I used "Advanced settings" and did one for {{User:Technology Wizard/Signature}} and {{User:Technology Wizard/sig}} and replaced both with {{User:Technology Wizard/Sig}}. Yes, it looks very nice. I also wanted to know what you thought about the "Need Help?" section. Is it too much (I can remove some links), or do you think it's fine as is? Also, if you could add a dashed line between the "Contact me" and :Need Help?" sections, I'd like to see what it would look like.  Technology Wizard  Talk  Contribs  17:29, May 28, 2012 (UTC)
I took the liberty to change a few things. The old look had a lot of white-space on either the side or the bottom... this change fixes both issues with minor white-space on the bottom-right. If this isn't satisfactory, just let me know what you want changed. Rappy 09:41, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
I will admit that it looks incredible and I really like it, however there are a few issues. The "My favorites wiki" section will be expanded by a lot, I was only testing the template with 3 of my favorite wikis as of right now. I'd like the "Contact me" section and the "Need Help?" sections to be somewhat together (like they were before). I do like the avatar idea, although I will be fixing it for my frequent updates to it. I think the "My fav. wikis" section should be right below my information as it should have it's own section per it's large size (in the future). Maybe one day we can meet in chat and get through this faster. Let me know when you are available.  Technology Wizard  Talk  Contribs  03:18, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
Alright I made some changes that I like. My only need now is that I dont have the use the "<center>" tags, but a "span" type of coding. I also would like to have spaces between each of the 3 sections on the right.  Technology Wizard  Talk  Contribs  04:04, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
I fooled around with some margins/padding and added 8 slots (for placeholders). Depending on how big the avatar is, you should have room for up to 12 wikis with this setup without making it look off-balance. Rappy 05:06, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
Alright, I have made the final touches to it. Thank you so much! If there is anyway to ever repay you, let me know!  Technology Wizard  Talk  Contribs  03:27, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

If you've got doxing problems, I feel bad for you son Edit

What's with the local block? -- RandomTime 10:49, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

I deleted their spam 3 hours ago, they re-uploaded. Local issue, local block. Rappy 10:53, May 28, 2012 (UTC)
I take the point that Spam is a ToU issue, so it's something that we can block globally for - but I see your point -- RandomTime 10:55, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

I left you a message 1 message sections above this one. Just reminding you sine I'm not sure if you read the page history.  Technology Wizard  Talk  Contribs  04:06, May 29, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Edit

I just like to say thank you for the spam-deletions you have done on the Klingon wikia. It's a very slow wikia, unfortunately. We do not get spam very often, but it's annoying to find it again anyway. This VSTF is a very good idea. Great! :-)

Copyright, or lack there of Edit

I'm not stupid Rappy. (Actually... that's debatable! :P) And didn't I say I believed in Copyleft? My work on Wikia is released under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike. I know this. But the attribution part allows me to state how I like it to be attributed. Plus, I didn't even say that "I copyright this", I just want people to know I made it. Which is well within the license. Besides UltimateSupreme has left all my personal info in the profile. But I'm handling it. I think I'll make a blank copy for people to take! :) STARFLEET ACADEMY 07:24, June 5, 2012 (UTC)

| bot ran for VSTF members by User:Sactage automatically adds the userpage -- RandomTime 21:08, June 26, 2012 (UTC)
Okay Is it possible to do this without the bot or if you have to how do you do it?   Original   Authority    ♪    email
I am not sure I am at liberty to reveal that. I'd contact Sactage. Rappy 21:34, June 26, 2012 (UTC)

Hey Rap, is here a magic word that counts the no. of words in an aricle?--OdranoellutaTalkSig.png 03:39, June 29, 2012 (UTC)

Not that I am aware of, no. In fact, most parser functions fail when the text within them is over 1,000 characters. You can take a look at most magic words here. Rappy 03:45, June 29, 2012 (UTC)
