Kernigh at other wikis

My username is Kernigh. I created my user account and joined these Wikia communities at 18 November 2005. From that day through today, I have modified more than twenty Wikia sites. Most of my contributions became free cultural work through Creative Commons BY-SA. (This after the switch by Wikia at 19 June 2008 from the GNU Free Documentation License.)

I contribute mostly to Wikihack (the NetHack Wikia), but also to other wiki. I cannot actively edit many wiki simultaneously! The truth is that I have not recently changed most of those wiki that have my user pages. With this user account, I change as many or as few wiki as I prefer.

This user account

Kernigh had 1337 edits at NetHack Wikia, but these statistics mislead you because all edits are not equal.

• User:Kernigh/side provides the red-green-blue box that appears on my user pages. I manually copy this box from Central Wikia, therefore Central Wikia has the most current copy of the box.
  • The red portion of the box features the NetHack and Oberin Wikia.
  • The green portion of the box links to my Wikia user pages.
  • The blue portion of the box contains mentions MediaWiki.
• I also have some obsolete JavaScript.
  • I had a custom /monobook.css and /monobook.js for Central Wikia. These are now obsolete because Central Wikia does not use Monobook.
  • I previously had my /monobook.js files at NetHack Wikia and Oberin Wikia load these three fragments. Today I do not use these fragments.
  • /sysop.js moves the "protect" and "delete" tabs to the toolbox, so they do not waste so much room in Monobook.
  • /tagline.js adds search and backlinks to tagline in Monobook. (currently does not work)
  • /wikialink.js implements Splarka's interwiki tabs for Monobook. (currently does not work)
• I also have two other user accounts, User:Kernigh sockpuppet and User:Kernigh bot.

The wiki engine

MediaWiki is a wiki engine, the thing that causes a web site to become a wiki. Installation and maintenance of MediaWiki remains difficult, thus hosting services like Wikia are so important. Because the prominent Wikipedia uses MediaWiki, some users wrongly believe that every wiki must be an encyclopedia. Some wiki, like Wikinfo, are encyclopedias; but a wiki is a web site that you can modify from a browser, and needs not be an encyclopedia.
