    • Killing and using animals for food (in my opinion) is wrong. I'm vegan for ethical reasons and I think that dairy is just taking the food out of the calf who need it more, but instead these calves are either killed for veal (especially male dairy calves) while female calves are used for future dairy cows. And their mothers cry when their babies are ripped apart from her. And laying eggs is just infanticide.

    • You're free to be a vegan. We're free to not be.

Eggs that are eaten are unfertilised

    • Also, regardless if animals don't mate, hens will lay eggs, it's a natural process of discarded cells that did not fulfill their function!! Laying eggs is natural!!

    • Its called the Circle of Life. Humans are Omnivores and thus are intended to eat both meat and vegetables. Beyond that part if you so concenred about morals when it comes to animals id suggest you totally go full on and set yourself apart from anything using animals.

    • Salubri, Ismael says that they are vegan, that's kind of the point - they exclude animal products. And Sun, the primary issue is that the conditions under which hens' eggs are collected are often very far from humane.

It is perfectly fine to be a vegetarian or vegan - admirable even, I'd say (I was veggie once!). But please try to be civil and respectful, and avoid proselytizing or emotionally charged language like "cruel meat-eater!"... I do believe we had this issue on chat before.

My personal opinion is that the production and consumption of meat is ultimately something that needs to be reduced, and the rights of animals respected. The extent to which this can be achieved today is limited - some day perhaps we can find more adequate ways to fill the dietary deficiencies vegetarians are more likely to suffer from, and perhaps we might even develop an efficient manner of lab-grown meat.

I agree. The only argument I can find for not eating meat (not veganism, not vegetarianism, just not eating meat) is that it's a very inefficient industry. Farmers have to pump a huge amount of money and work into an animal, and then it gives a relatively limited supply of food, much of which isn't even used. And the CO2 output that cowpoop gives is enormous. Lab-grown meat or (shudder) bugs are considerably more efficient, even though they might not be as appealing. Soy and other replacements have the downside that it needs a lot of room to grow, which usually leads to deforestation.

Will we ever stop eating meat in the future? Possibly. Will it be because people keep reminding us we're cruel and meat is murder? Probably not.
