The problem is, when I try to sign messages on the Wiki, my dark signature overlaps my light signature because Preference settings apply to all Wikis. How do I program my lighter signature so that it only shows up when I use it on that Wiki, and my dark signature can be used on anywhere but that Wiki?
The subst: is technically optional... it uses a snapshot of the template render a the time of save/submit instead of the live template. If you leave it off, your signature will just reflect what your current sig template shows.
You could use #ifexist; but not like that. However, I don't think other wikis would like that very much. What it would do is add the template page to a wanted pages list of every wiki you use your signature on. Unless the wiki has the template in which case it would use the template.
subst definitely works with parser functions, and nothing will appear in wanted templates because the generated Wikitext does not include any template or parser function call. The "testing" part in my post demonstrates that, if you look at the source code of the post and trust me that I it was subst:#ifexist before I clicked Reply.
I see. You know, after all of the years I have been on Fandom, I still haven't taken the time to really study and understand what subst does. But taking a quick look at the help page, it all checks out.
