  • Is it ok to add some explicit language on articles? Examples.. Hopefully I don't punished. "Sh#t", "F#ck", "A$$", ETC. Basic slurs?

These words aren't being used as a hostile way in the article. More like "with giant pens and sprays and sh#t.. Avoid at all costs."

Would that be ok? I've added tags in the examples. Not sure if I'm even aloud to use language like this.

    • It would depend on if the wiki is accepting of swears or not (Community Central does not appreciate swearing, and we do know what you mean, but I won't penalise this personally). Be mindful of the Terms of Use and what it allows, however, especially when being directly towards another person:

You agree not to use the Service to post or transmit any content that is obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, profane, or otherwise violates any law or right of any third party, or content that contains homophobia, ethnic slurs, religious intolerance, or encourages criminal conduct

If I were to add swearing to other wikis, it would be because it's for educational purposes or it's a copy of a quote by something in which there's educational merit.

    • IIRC, swear words like the intensifiers mentioned are within the ToU, but slurs or swears aimed at others aren’t. It’s up to the wiki to set the rule. I personally would let slip a swear in Discussions, Talk or Chat, but it has no place in article namespace except maybe in a direct quote - but I would prefer to paraphrase rather than quote.

    • No because it can offend people especially religious ones. Some religions treat them as sins so you do not want to anger those types of people.

    • Ignore the anonymous coward above. If we edited wikis to fit the random requirements of religious folks, there would be no content.

Not to mention those who think "manhole" is a sexist term because it excludes women.

    • Personhole.

    • @sshole is gender neutral, right?

I think "Mandible" is a sexist word, because it excludes women. Also femto- is a sexist prefix and shouldn't be used unless you also use the undefined anywhere prefix, mascto-.

    • Well, I think this thread is at the point of spiraling offtopic. As Cheeseskates and Tupka mentioned, most swears are within Terms of Use and are allowed or not based on local policy (On Community Central, they should be avoided at all costs/as much as possible). Slurs and racist content are not allowed per terms of use, and staff can and mostly will globally block you if you use them.
