  • Hello,

    Could you change the name of the Horizon Zero Dawn wiki to the Horizon wiki?

      Loading editor
    • Not Sovq

      Hi, only Fandom Staff can change wiki names. As you aren't an admin/bureaucrat on that wiki (and neither is Sovq so I'm not sure why you contacted him) I am going to give you an 0% percent change of succes to get it granted. Also Sovq hasn't made an edit on this wiki since the end of 2014 so he might not even be active anymore

  • If you ever use wikia anymore I would love for help on putting tables into nested tabbers. What I would like is:

    Text1

    Text2

    {

    The only problem is (I believe) the curly braces mess each other up and I lose both the nested tabbers and the table. Everything after the first curly brace of the table gets removed. Thanks for any help! (infact in this message it gets messed up so you will probably have to look at the source of it)

      Loading editor
    • Don't mind me interjecting. Like you skip the piped inside {{#tag:}}, you would also need to escape the pipes in the table. Everything after the first curly brace gets removed because pipes (the first thing after the curly brace) are a part of tabber syntax.

      <tabber>
      Tab 1 =
      Some content here
      |-|
      Tab 2 =
      Some more content here
      {{#tag: tabber|
      Sub-tab 1 =
      {{{!}}class="wikitable"
      {{!}}A nice table here
      {{!}}}
      {{!}}-{{!}} Sub-tab 2 =
      {{{!}}class="wikitable"
      {{!}}Another nice table here
      {{!}}}
      }}
      </tabber>

      becomes

      Some content here

      Some more content here

      A nice table here

      Another nice table here

  • Hello Sovq, I was wondering why you uploaded w:c:starter:File:Przykład.jpg when it's identical to w:c:starter:File:Example.jpg, which has been available for years. Keep in mind that the Starter Wikia is used as the "default" for all new wikis, so any wikis created after you uploaded that file will now have both of the files, and very few will have any use for the copy under the Polish name.

      Loading editor
    • Files are no longer imported from starter wiki onto new wikis. Instead, starter now works as a shared image repository.

      This means that in order to make the PL equivalent of File:Example.jpg work on PL wikis, like on this page, a new, adjusted to Polish, file had to be uploaded on starter.

      This should have no effect on English wikis, but will fix a problem new Polish wikis had for a while now.

        Loading editor
    • Aha, that makes sense. I hadn't been aware of the change in how files on Starter behave, thanks for explaining it. =)

      I am curious, though, Wikia Videos (w:c:videos) also acts as a shared file repository, so why not upload there? (not trying to second-guess you or anything, just genuinely curious =) )

        Loading editor
    • It was not my decision. I guess it just makes more sense to have starter-related images on starter than on any other shared repository.

    • Ok, got it. =)

  • Noticed your advice at Forum:Remove_"Added_by..."_under_photos

    I have done this successfully but I am wondering if you think it might be possible for Wikia staff to incorporate this in a more user-friendly way. Like adding it as a button to Special:WikiFeatures or something like that?

    Would make it much easier to manage and remember but I don't know how hard it would be to implement.

    • Staff can disable this feature or request, so you don't have to hide it with CSS if you don't want to.

      You can also use Special:Contact to suggest having this feature inside Special:WikiFeatures - I'm sure they'll consider adding it.

        Loading editor
    • Well I'd feel like I was wasting their time to get them to do it when I know how to do it, I but yeah, would look great on features.

  • Hi!

    I was trying to figure out how to make mouse-over tooltips for my Wiki and found from an old forum thread that you'd helped someone with it. Might you be able to help again? Thanks!

      Loading editor
    • Sure, what exactly do you need help with?

        Loading editor
    • Thanks! I'm wondering what code/syntax/tool I need to make simple mouse-over text tooltips for particular words in the main text body of some pages.

      As a further wrinkle, ideally I'd like those words to also be internal links - so takes you to another page in the wiki on click, but gives a tooltip on mouse-over.

      Any advice / code templates welcome. I'm computer-comfortable but a total wiki newbie.

    • There are several ways to add tooltips to a wiki. The one described in the the thread you linked is a simple one and code for it is pretty lightweight. If you want to use these tooltips on your wiki, do this:

      1. Add the tooltip code to MediaWiki:Wikia.css (and/or other style sheets) on your wiki:

      /******************************************************************************/
      /* CSS Tooltips */
      .Qtooltip {
          border-bottom: 1px dotted #02899D;
          color: #660000;
          cursor: help;
          position: relative;
      }

      .Qtooltip span {
          margin-left: -999em;
          position: absolute;
      }

      .Qtooltip:hover span {
          background-color: #191919;
          opacity: 0.85;
          border: 2px solid #323232;
          border-radius: 5px;
          color: #D5D4D4;
          font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
          font-size: 12px;
          font-variant: normal;
          font-weight: normal;
          line-height: 23px;
          text-align:center;
          margin: 0px;
          padding: 4px;
          position: absolute;
          text-shadow: none;
          width: 250px;
          z-index: 99;
          bottom: 1em;
      }				/* Hover box style */

      * html a:hover {background: transparent;}

      /* End of CSS Tooltips */
      /******************************************************************************/

      2. After refreshing MediaWiki:Wikia.css using the instructions on top of that page (sometimes it takes a while), you should be able to use the tooltips already. The syntax to call them is <span class="Qtooltip">Tooltip Caption<span>Tooltip Content</span></span>. You can replace the caption with internal links: <span class="Qtooltip">[[Article_title|Tooltip Caption]]<span>Tooltip Content</span></span> like it's done when creating regular links in wikitext.

      Hope this helps, good luck

  • I noticed you mentioned some tricks to try and get DPL to display pages that aren't included correctly, back in a forum from some time ago. It appears it has never really been fixed and has cropped up again, with a similar issue.

    What tricks did you try? I've never come up against something like this, but from what you wrote on the forum it's apparently not down to the cached results. I can rebuild the template from scratch if I have to, but I don't want to leave something on a wiki no local editor knows how to bug fix.

    • It's been a while since I last used DPL, but if I recall correctly using the "debug = 5" parameter, testing with different invocation syntaxes and stripping the dpl query into its component parameters was usually enough for me to determine what the problem was.
