Hi, I think we sorted this out on chat last week. We're also going to make a change so that you don't automatically continue to follow walls if you were following a talk page for the same person - turned out that generated too many notifications.
If you are still getting notifications for someone else's wall, the first thing to check is if you are following them. You need to go to their wall page (not just the single thread) and click in the bottom toolbar to unfollow. As a workaround, you can also go to Special:Watchlist/raw and remove any watched walls from there.
I find it very annoying that every time I go to my wiki I find the background has been changed to show advertisements. Can I request that Wikia stops using for my wiki's background to advertise? My wiki's URL is www.neo-quenya.wikia.com .
All wikis have ads when logged out. Some ads overtake the background, some overtake the whole screen, some are just ads at the top. You cannot have ads shut off on your wiki. Your wiki is not the only one to have a background overtaking ad though.
Skin ads are something we sometimes show - and the ads are how we are able to offer wikis for free here.
In most cases, you will only see a skin ad occasionally - they are something that tends to show for one pageview and then disappear for a while. They are most common on larger wikis, and on topics like gaming and entertainment. I'm actually surprised that you saw one on your wiki - and very surprised that you are getting repeated ads.
As that's unusual, I've passed on this report to out Ads Manager, and they are going to check the settings. But they aren't something that we can remove generally I'm afraid (except for the few small wikis that pay to be ad free).
Thanks very much for passing the report :) I was very surprised too myself that a skin ad should appear every time I go to my wiki, it's almost no-miss. Especially considering my wiki isn't a big one...
The good thing is that you won't need to - if you are persistent, calm and consistent, it's likely he will go away in time. But there's a knack to this - that includes not "feeding the trolls". Someone on the wiki was leaving very reactive messages for the person - that's a good way to encourage trolls... better to "revert, block, ignore". I've done that for this account :)
Hello Sannse! I was hoping I might have a chance to speak with you regarding the Terraria Wiki? I see that you have spoken with HeroGaming, and I just received an email from you, but I have not yet had a chance to speak with you or him. Thanks.
Actually, part of my advice to HeroGaming was directly related: to cut down on off-wiki chats and put conversations in plain view. There is a lot of "he said/she said" here that is impossible for me to really help with - and I'm not convinced that more off-wiki discussion will help that.
Mathmagician, I heard from you and Gracy via email, and HeroGaming via Skype, and currently don't see a way to untangle what's going on behind the scenes. That pushes me back to the general principle of us trying to allow communities to run themselves, rather than us jumping in on conflicts. As I said in my mail, while the voting seems clearly influenced by HeroGaming's YouTube following, viewers/readers of the wiki are also part of the wiki, and so the strong result there still has some validity. That was an influence on deciding not to intervene in the rights removal and bans at the moment.
I'm still watching this situation, and will certainly be talking (on-wiki) with HeroGaming about the wiki's video policies.
Since we're dispensing with off-wiki chats, I guess I'll have to post this here.
"Some validity." Please explain to me what validity there is in HeroGaming asking his livestream viewers to go to the wiki and vote on an issue they've only seen one side of the story of, while Gracey and I were banned from the community and were unable to defend our position? I realize that Wikia is neither a court of law nor a political system, but surely some degree of fairness must be upheld?
I have nothing to do with this, so excuse me if I don't get the full picture, but I'm getting tons of Wikia's new "Watchlist feed" spam pouring into my inbox (I am unable to block these messages), so I thought I'd jump in. I doubt some 2000 users who knew what they were doing voted on the polls of some obscure wiki. I think this goes without saying, but HeroGaming has abused his power as an administrator, and should be dealt with. Even if you want to argue about his off-site rallies, his removal of all propaganda (in blogs too, which an admin should never have the right to remove), regarding opposing views was unethical and clearly not in good faith. What is not done in good faith classifies as vandalism, trolling or something bad of the sort. Off-wiki discussions regarding a wiki are fine, but when an administrator abuses their power, than a Wikia moderator should step in at the request of a victim. I hope that is what you had in mind, Sannse.
Math, you certainly do come across as a good administrator, and I'm sure that you are. What I don't understand is what could have encouraged you or your admin team to grant the clearly inexperienced wikian HeroGaming administrator tools.
HeroGaming became a bureaucrat long before my time simply because the founder, Dratini17 left. At the time it was decided that Hero should have exclusive control of the production of video content. I have stated over on the Terraria wiki that I love watching his videos (I also enjoy other youtubers videos), but I believe that recent events have made it abundantly clear that he has vastly overstepped the bounds of his Wikia administrative rights and attempted to sweep everything under the rug. I bear him no personal ill will, but I cannot willingly stand by and see injustice run rampant.
Pikapi: I understand your good intent (and that you were drawn to this thread by an accidental notification) but ask that you leave this to those directly involved. Thanks :)
Mathmagician: I understand that a lot of readers/viewers on the wiki are also members of HeroGaming's YouTube following (and vice versa) - even with the off-wiki request for votes, there are people on both sides of this on-wiki. That's why we aren't stepping in to intervene in the bans at this point.
That's not to say I don't want to try to help. I've just posted to HeroGaming's talk page, and one suggestion I included was that we have a text-chat with all four of us involved (text so that we can all talk more clearly, and post logs if needed to help with transparency). If all three of you want to try that, I'm willing to give it a go (my Skype account is sannsec if you want to add me).
Just thought I would leave my thoughts here:
If I'm correct, Terraria was released in the middle of last year, which means that I have been using this wiki almost since Terraria was released. Now, if you were to look at my history, I haven't necessarily... "approved" of Wikia since they got rid of Monaco, but I've gotten over it. Ever since then, I try not to use any Wikia wiki unless I have to, and in the case of this wiki, I use it because it is more developed than the official Terraria wiki. I haven't played Terraria in about 2 weeks, but just today I got around 100 emails from Wikia due to some bug. I don't exactly remember how (I've been doing other things), but I discovered a forum post about this whole thing, and now I ended up here. However, enough of that.
Unless I missed something, there was never more than one video at a time on the home page of the wiki. Now, the front page of the wiki is nothing but videos. This is a huge turnoff for me; If I wanted to watch videos I would have gone to YouTube. I don't come to a wiki for videos. At best, videos should be an afterthought, a bonus, an extra, not the focus. In my opinion, this has led to very lazy editing behaviors, with a very large amount of articles that tell you nothing more than you could learn in-game. A great example, in my opinion, is the Mythril Hood article. This is what it looked like before it was edited (a very minor edit, at that): http://terraria.wikia.com/index.php?title=Mythril_Hood&oldid=213470&useskin=wikia
By simply talking to the Guide, an in-game character, you can learn all of that.
In addition, Hero is taking advantage of the other admin's absence from the wiki, and is playing the whole situation in his favor to boost his reputation and feed his ego.
Posts such as these continue to persuade people that he has somehow thwarted a great evil from the wiki, and that he should be given more praise for the great acts that he has done. He actively monitors these posts and does not hesitate to reply to any opposing views left in the comments.
"Our wiki has grown very large. I would like to think I have played a very big role in that by sending thousands of people here from youtube. I showed my stats and showed that the wiki was less than 10% of my traffic and that I help the wiki more than the wiki helps me. I helped push our wiki to the top spot on google by bringing in so many editors and I did it because I love the game and wanted to build a community."
His job as a wiki administrator is to administrate, not advertise, and most certainly not create propaganda about himself.
I don't think I'm not doing a very good job at pushing my point across right now, so I I'm just going to come out and say that what I think is going on here is that he has let his fame and power over the videos get to him, and has banned these two administrators for attempting to circumvent his video monopoly. With the opposing administrators banned, he is actively making posts slandering the administrators (and in the process making himself look like he just saved the wiki) in order to cover up what is really going on. With no one with power on the wiki to oppose him, he is the only one left for people to believe and with the overwhelming positive responses he is getting such as "HOORAY FOR HERO HELPING THE WIKI!" "The people are all supporting you Hero! fight the good fight !" "HERO = Awesomeness, 'nuff said " ect., he is now feeling his ego inflated and is essentially declaring the wiki his own.
Thanks for inviting me for future conversation with you and Hero. I think that's a great idea, and I would like a chance to speak with him and you, if possible. However, it doesn't seem that Hero is willing to speak =(. Are you sure you can't ask him to reconsider?
hi. as you probably realized or not, about the history of Hero not so good he still planned to be on the wiki forever, it's simple, he punished gratsiy91 because of the video that he would be removed as Hero obeshal retribution and collected a lot of fans would like it hazy as good a brighter future and + took him two administrators for the plan, can I continue? ok so here is Mr. Hero has taken in advance, and mets banned gratsiy91 previously changed the vote and all that there was poured all svoym sauce and shown as a charge against gratsiy91 and mets blogs showing how they would like to blame, but people have noticed that he had fabricated the page and become it would be like blaming misrepresented that he seems to be doing but it certainly was not sitting and began to tell all "to cloud minds," it's all true, and bo gratsiy91 who wanted to destroy the 8500 revisions wiki or wiki to capture the Hero says, but gratsiy91 not want, not what Hero of this just did not give him a chance to say that this is not true that he wanted to capture or destroy her wiki that Hero zhadnasti money did not last long, he began thinking of the terror ananimami so everyone believed in him that he would like the rights and began to say that we a bright future that lies full course "of course you knew that Hero all rigged to shift the Graces from his post and take his place to get more money" and he obvenil them and himself, as it were without discipline, and of course now he says that no matter how bright the future to burn "Hero clouds brains," but other administrators who helped him soon left to avoid punishment, but of course the Hero and then flashed a wit and bought what he had not been dismissed from his post. I think everything is possible and now wants to declare Hero all the press that he was the biggest in the world and all he served. sichas and what do you think he said that a bright future but it's all lies because he does not even Chigoev does not just look like the money is in his pocket made of things!
Hi all) I would probably not here in time, I found a strange "donoman" Thank hero, I voted for you to stay I know why you had to get rid of them, thanks for the tip! :) "I certainly understand that Hero is probably not fair but you could not check his records and his blog that he would like pishit that accuses them of crimes and other administrators who also noticed that something strange they suddenly ran away?
P.S with respect ~ ~ ~ ~
From my point of view it seems Hero is just trying to feed his ego, no admins should be demoted without a community discussion(not a poll) it seems that Hero was using his position on Youtube to "rig" the votes so to speak, to be honest he is using the wiki to feed his ego, he seems to pushing a 1 sided argument to the editors on the wiki, what the admins were demoted for wasn't valid it was just the fact Hero disagreed with their thoughts therefore he was abusing bureaucrat rights he seems to be running a dictatorship : crushing any opposition and preventing anyone from having an equal power level as him.
Hi, I noticed that the pressure became too herogaming exceed the power of law and administration to ban and remove all who opposed him, as he had planned, but the ban and remove all who speak the truth of it is already bespridel herogaming probably thinks that money is power and take off you can do on the wiki all that is possible, as well as comments annona which he punished after the response. "Why did he even put up a vote? To show everyone how liked he is? He very well knew the outcome of that vote and could have just skipped it entirely, although I'm sure he did it so he wouldn't look like he just got rid of them himself ... after all the COMMUNITY voted them out right? remind me again what he said about graciously pulling himself out of that contest he entered? because he knew he would have all his Youtube viewers behind him and have an unfair advantage? my point exactly. This guys epeen is ridiculous. watch his video on the FRONT page about how he had to prove he is better than anyone at anything. I don't come to this page to help him build up his videos .... i come to read info from other players like me when i am stumped. Just because you have no life outside of videogames doesn't make you a God, it just makes you King of the losers.

Dude to do all that stuff for one game because you love it constitutes a life, he has never said he is God. by coming to this wiki and watching the video you are supporting it. This wiki is a labor of love from many people.

Yes, you need to decide which wiki will be moved to the other. Then go to Special:Statistics on the wiki that will move and you can download a database dump. Then upload it to the other wiki. When that is done, send a message to Special:Contact and ask staff to redirect the one wiki to the other.
