The New Zealand wikia will accept articles in Māori as long as I'm an admin there. That's enough for me. See my record on mi.wikipedia.org. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 15:31, September 26, 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm - maybe we could copy some categories and other structural elements from mi.wikipedia.org. Is it set up for interwiki links? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 12:10, September 27, 2015 (UTC)
You'd better look for Wikians who claim mi-2 or mi-3 and are interested in the subject-matter. You could try the active contributors to the Wikipedia if you haven't already.
Reason of suspension: On the Angry German Kid wiki, he became annoying by telling them to go to Dailymotion first, but then the Google+ YouTube changes, interferes with other peoples pages. I am afraid that he may also interfere with other users in other wikis too.
I am trying to change the email address for notifications. I go to my user name, click on My preferences which will take me to a page where I can re-edit my email address.
I changed it, clicked on save and the system said it was successful. There is no confirmation email sent to the new email address. When I go to the email page again, I still see the old address.
I wanted to get your thoughts on the Wikia Tour content, and whether this is something worth keeping around at this point. I was on the verge of removing most of it, but I see you were maintaining it as recently as last year.
We of course have other avenues for wiki discovery now, and Special:Promote provides a place for general info about a community (we hope to surface that info on the individual wikis soon, right now it's primarily used on the wikia.com home pages and in the mobile apps).
If you think the tour content is still useful, let's talk more about it.
Hello, Bert. Sorry for taking rather long to respond, but I've had browser problems that wouldn't let me edit most wiki pages.
The tour is still an easy way for people to show visitors the best points of their wiki.
Special:Promote doesn't do that for people who have reached a wiki, and it gives only a sporting chance of being noticed on Wikia's main page. Quite different.
Is there any cost involved in keeping the Wikia Tour pages in place?
Nope, no cost involved. But it's for that very reason (i.e. Wikia is no longer pushing this as a tool for communities to use) that I wondered if we needed to keep these pages around. If you feel there is still value there and would like to maintain them, it's no problem to keep them.
Fine that you're not pushing it. But for people who use it and like it, it works and deserves to be kept. I guess I should have another check to see where the chain may be broken. Users interested can fairly easily see that I'm a potential helper if they need one.
I'd like to see a "Help" page about Wikia's advertising policies and standards. Guidance for users, so that they know what to expect and can complain about real breaches by advertisers rather than complaining about anything they don't like and being told that it's within the guidelines. How about something along these lines:
Adverts pay for Wikia
Wikia is free to readers and contributors because, like most big websites, it earns money from advertisements. Unlike some big sites, however, it has fairly strict standards so that the user experience is not too much impaired by advertisements.
Placement
Current ad policy restricts ads to a top banner, a top-right-hand rectangle, and areas below the page content. Except as noted below, nothing is allowed to cover page content. For logged-in users, there is slightly less advertising. Wikia's self-promotions, such as spotlights, may appear in other areas but should still not cover any content apart from the small bottom-right site-wide or targeted messages.
Popups etc
Popups (except in approved locations) and audio are not allowed, except after "human interaction": if your pointer hovers over an ad for three seconds or more, the advertiser may display a larger ad and may add audio, provided that there is a "close" button (e.g. an "X" in a top corner) displayed.
I create random pages, but with info on them. The same person keeps deleting my pages, saying their useless or another page has the same thing. What should I do?
