Okay, "schade". ;)
Hi! I think you responded to my e-mail. It's about my account disabling thing. Just wanted to say that my brother clicked the button to disabling it, and didn't put an e-mail in the field. Now, I'm stuck.
I am a member of Lord of The Rings polish Wikia (I love Tolkien and his world). I saw that you also like it but not of this i'd like to talk.
Since 12 years I develope huge web-page about polish genealogy. www.genealogia.okiem.pl (this is in Polish). This is totaly social, non-profit project. Basement of this is lot of databases (about uprisers in 19th century, about landowners, coat-of-arms - etc.) It is mostly like huge encyclopedy. Lots of people help me collect information - like a volontiers. Since few year I am thinkig about reaorganizg this page to something similar to WIKIA system.
Do you think it would be possible to use enginee of Wikia for such a project? (Important is also, since this is very serious topic, not to connect with other game Wikias). Who i suposed to contact with?
Thank you Mira for response. That is grate news that Wikia can be also be used for science project. Problem is only with it, that there shouldnt be visible connection to games wikias. Most genealogist are older people, very serious on topic involved their families history. Thay don't want to be conected with games. It is very delicate problem. Is there possibility to hide such a connection? (It still can existed in some office page).
As for any videogame content on your potential Wikia: Your contributors will see different ads depending on their search history. For example, if they search a lot of videogame stuff on Google, they will see a lot of videogame-related ads. As you say, they probably never do that, so they should not see any content related to video games at all.
Wikia is a vast network with communities on many topics, and although many are about videogames, there are a lot that have absolutely nothing to do with them.
Personally, I think your contributors won't have a reason to be put off by Wikia's other content - they will hardly ever see it. Just give it a try, I'm pretty sure it'll be a success. :)
Exactly, and I think they usually correspond to a character, that means if you see someone added "+18", then they probably added 18 characters to the page. Might be easier to picture characters added and deleted than bytes. Or at least it is for me :)
Also, please note that even if the number is negative, that doesn't necessarily mean that someone has vandalized or damaged the page. They may have just made the text more concise, replaced text with a template, or moved styling to the CSS. If in doubt, ask the editor what they did to change the page.
