JGE Wiki Edit

Heya JoePlay, it's Mulligan from the new Jumpgate Evolution wiki. Thanks for the post on my talk (and sorry I've not got back to you yet - I've been AWOL for a few weeks).

We moved the wiki over from my old hosting, which I why I was the sole SysOp and we'd not got around to working out who was going to end up with elevated privileges, but yeah I'm definitely aware of my position. I think the plan moving forwards is to chat more with Awen, NetDevil's Community Manager for Jumpgate Evolution and then get some of the regular contributors a little more empowered. I'm still pretty new to MediaWiki myself so if I have any queries, I'll drop you a line. Thanks again for your help (especially with the pretty-damned-cool looking skin).

See you in space ;)

Thanks Edit

Thanks for checking up on me at Gasopedia - The Bristol Rovers Wiki, everyone here seems very friendly and helpful. Things are going well thanks, but I'll be sure to come and ask you if I have any problems. Thanks for your help so far with the logo and setting the skin to a more suitable colour. — Gasheadsteve (talk) 09:25, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

MediaWiki extensions? Edit

Hey Joe,

Is there any way to get support for the MediaWiki video extensions? I noticed they didn't function here; at least not using the default settings.

Thanks! Aeo 20:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

One more question on videos Edit

Hello again Joe,

Thanks so much for your fast reply. I do have one important question regarding the Wiki format that you all use here. Is there a way to declare a width? I know under the mediawiki format I can just add a |220 for a 220px video. For example, in the newly created "media" section on the front page of the JGE wiki, I really don't want a full sized feed.

Here's an example, from another of my projects: http://torwiki.com/

Thanks again, hope there's a way to make this work!

update Edit

No worries, I figured it out. An aspect-ratio calculator is really helpful though. I had to get the original Flash dimensions from Gametrailers then calculate the appropriate fraction - then add width/height values. All good now. Between that and the 3 thumbs I think our front page looks a LOT sharper.

Uhhh... Edit

To tell you the truth, I've never recieved a message like that before. Can you tell me what it means? Blue Ninjakoopa Talk to me 22:53, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. :) Blue Ninjakoopa Talk to me 00:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the heads up, Joe. You've been a very good help to the wiki. :) Blue Ninjakoopa Talk to me 19:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Gaming wiki titles Edit

In reference to the expanded titles of the gaming wikis, does having the expanded title on each page really help with search engines? I know search engines can be counter-intuitive at times, but I would think that, for example, having "classes" in the title of w:c:nwn:race would confuse search engines more than help (since that page would not be a good match for a search for "classes"). Or is the point to get our pages to come up on searches, regardless of what someone is searching for? I think a shorter title on each page other than the main page would look better to the human readers, but I would like to know the rationale for the longer titles before deciding which titles I think NWNWiki should use. --The Krit 18:15, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I like the latest version better. Thanks. Writing out the full name of the game does make sense. --The Krit 23:28, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Slightly related issue (please reply on my Central talk page or on kirby king's ssb.wikia talk page): Does Super Smash Bros. Wiki need to be on the far left? I would like to change it to SmashWiki: The Super Smash Bros. Wiki, but you seemed adamant in that it has to be the far left. --Sky (talk) 04:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

In fact, there's one other thing that you might want to check out. On Quantcast, it seems rather wrong that smashboards.com is considered to be part of Wikia, when I know that it is not. I would suspect this is a mixup from when SmashWiki merged with Ssb.Wikia. Can you get that fixed (ie, smashboards removed)? --Sky (talk) 04:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

It's not extremely critical that it be removed; I'm just noting that it's a little less than appropriate to have the traffic from smashboards being represented with traffic from Wikia. Other than that, thanks for the message. --Sky (talk) 18:35, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Fable Wikia Edit

It looks like the Fable wiki could use a couple admins, don't you think? Pages to delete, spammers to ban. Philnelson 19:28, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I'll do it if Philnelson doesn't take the job. Although I know just about everything there is to know about the first Fable game, I don't know anything about Fable II. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 03:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Philnelson says that he'll be happy to become an administrator on the Fable wiki (Check his talk page). --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 20:24, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Edit

Hi Joe. Can you create a logo for the Bandipedia, the Crash Bandicoot wiki. We want it identical to Wikipedia's globe logo, only Crash Bandicoot themed. KrazyKatTalk to me! 04:32, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Edit

Hi, just create whatever you think is good for Bandipedia, the Crash Bandicoot wiki. KrazyKatTalk to me! 00:50, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey, question Edit

Hello. I am Nicmavr. I work at the Greek halopedia: http://el.halo.wikia.com/

You can find me there as Nicmavr. Anyways, the question:

I'm interested in becoming a wikia helper. How and where do I do that? Nicmavr 14:43, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
