  • Just wondering if you had a chance to look over everything concerning my infinite block? I have been  a staunch contributor for 7+ years and just recently returned at the beginning of this year after dealing with a medical issue. Anyways I know none of that matters, I just want to say that I had and still have alot to contribute to the Marvel Database. Long list of things, but in the end it's up to you. Thank you. Chris

  • Hello Jamie ill like to say 1st off

    1. I am officially unbanned.
    2. No longer provoking.
    3. I dont insult others.

But it seems I never got my opportunity to show my change around the wikia the first 2 edits and I get banned with some very rude remarks along with a inappropriate forum topic I feel I should get a chance because the post was unnecessary and highly provoking because people can read the false label information about me.

  • Hello. I would like to ask you a question of advice. See, the Marvel Database uses both the Wikia Blogs and forums for news. Being a large wiki I thought it would be appropiate to ask when would you advise using Wikia Bogs to announce something, when to use the forums, and when to use community corner? Thanks

  • Hey there! My Wiki, the Age Comics Wiki Golden Age Comics Wiki , would like to become an admin of the Marvel Database, the DC Database, the Image Comics Database, and the Dark Database. Since you are an admin of each Wiki I thought I can tell you for Affiliates rights.

The Golden Age Comics Wiki is a young wiki that consists of 19 articles since June 2013. We hope to expand it to cover the entire Golden Age.

    • Thank you for contacting me. I am always open to discussion about possible collaborations. Before anything else, can you please help me to understand the nature of your wiki? What will the Golden Age Comics Wiki do that our wikis don't already do?

        Loading editor
    • It will cover every superhero and every pubilcation of the Golden Age. Characters fronm DC and Marvel (formely Timely) as well as characters from all other Golden Age publications such as Fawcett. Which include characters such as Shazam (formely Captain Marvel). None of the Comic Databases include entire info of such publications or characters during the time nor does it cover all of the Golden Age of Comic Books (which we plan to do in the future since the wiki is very young)

      Thanks

    • Thank you for your response. While our databases do not currently include every issue or every Marvel and DC character of the Golden Age, that is definitely part of our core plan. We will eventually include articles on all of the same topics you have mentioned.

Due to this overlap, I do not think we can form any sort of affiliation, but I wish you the very best in your daunting task. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on our forums!

      Cheers,

      Jamie

  • Hi Jamie. Being the most graphically-inclined member of the ComDev team, I would love to design new logos for those wikis, but I have no experience (or skill) at creating vector graphics (SVG). For a professional job like that, you'd be better off hiring a graphic designer/artist either on your own or at crowdsourcing sites, such as logomyway.com and designcrowd.com.

    • Hey Joe! Thank you so much for offerring to help!

In the spirit of collaboration, I think I might follow your suggestion to go the DesignCrowd route, and turn this into a community-run contest. Once I set up a project and define my desired outcomes, I'll promote it on the sites and then let the community vote to pick the winner.

I don't suppose Wikia would be willing to help me with the project costs, would they? (I know Jennifer Betka is just sitting on a pile of cash in her office that she doesn't know how to spend. Right? Seriously though, is that a thing that could happen?)

What do you think of my plan?

    • I think that's a wise plan, indeed. Good luck!

Seriously though, is that a thing that could happen?

I have no idea, but you could use Special:EmailUser/Jenburton to contact Jen (head of Community Support) to find out.

  • Hi Jamie,

I went over to the Marvel Database wiki and noticed on the mainpage that you have buttons(characters) that work like 'mouseover'. I've been looking for these sort of codes to use for my wikis but can't seem to find it on mediawiki or any sharealike sites. Is it alright if you could let me know and use the codes for it? Thank you. Hope to hear from you.

    Regards,
    Koosha

    • I think that js code is handled somewhere in our Common.js file. Just trace it back through the templates... you'll find it. :)

    • Hi Jamie, thanks very much ^^ I'll look into the templates then. =) I was worried about the copyright for the codes so I had to ask ^^" hehe Have a nice week! =)

  • http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Hub:Big_wikis?diff=next&oldid=832906 - Can you explain where you got the "119,000" from? Familypedia is still under 118,000 articles. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:50, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

    • The Marvel Database used to have 97,000 but after the upgrade tto MediaWiki 1.19 somehow the page counts were re-aligned. I've logged an issue with Wikia, but they haven't resolved it yet...

Feel free to re-adjust the numbers as you see fit, but they'll likely change again when Wikia fixes the bug.

    • Thanks. I'll wait - Familypedia will almost certainly be up to 119,000 soon. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 03:37, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
