As Dantman explained on your talk page, Wikia will not create a copy of an existing wiki, in this case, the Digimon Wikia. Please have a look at Wikia creation policy. But if you want, you can participate in Digimon Wikia - I'm sure the community is glad to have another member to join in. :-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 10:51, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm rather curious why you make your userpage in every random wiki. I mean I can't really see a point in it other than trying to get your name more visible on the internet, so erm... why do you do it? —This unsigned comment is by Zaku I (talkcontribs).

Hi, please remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~), this makes life easier for both of us as I know whom to address the reply to. :)
As for the question, I am a Wikia janitor, which means I'm going to pop up in a lot of different Wikia wikis hunting for spammers and vandals. Having a userpage and a talkpage redirect makes it easier for everyone to know who I am, how to contact me and why I could, for example delete pages or ban users. Especially new administrators might be confused with how some user who doesn't show up on the wiki's Special:Listusers/sysop - admin list - could delete a page or two. Besides, it's not against Wikia's policies to do so. Some Wikia Staff members have a userpage on almost every wiki, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 19:56, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Capitals Edit

Dear Jack, You are wasting your time for no benefit to anybody by changing these links:

Not one of those changes will make any difference except in the edit box, I believe. It's possible I did some of them. When I have to type, I don't capitalise except where it makes a difference. On the other hand, when I can paste, I do, and that may produce a capital. But the software capitalises all for display purposes.

Most of what I see you do is very good and helpful - keep it up!

Robin Patterson 02:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Robin, thanks for your message.
I do kinda agree, they're minor cosmetic changes, but if a new user sees [[Category:Administration of this site]] and [[category:help]] on some help page, they might get confused with the formatting, and I've been told that MediaWiki isn't *that* newbie-friendly. And I find it kinda funny too that a page uses both, so I decided to fix it while I'm at it. ;-)
Thank you for the compliments. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 15:48, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Bruna ManzonEdit

No, I want to write in portuguese. Actually, I've started this one: . Lord Insipidus 01:52, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

You could request a Portuguese Beauty Wikia, like - so go make request for it. The page you've created seems to be actual content and it clearly states the following on the editing screen:
Please do not use the requests wiki to create content. This wiki is only for making wiki requests. If you currently wish to make a request, please use the wiki request form. If you have made a request and want to create content before your request is reviewed, please create a temporary wiki at Scratchpad Wiki Labs.
If you decide to request a new wiki, I wish the best of luck for you - starting a new wiki can be tough, but rewarding too. :-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:06, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Problem in Arabic uncyclopediaEdit

Hi Jack sorry to bother you, we made a change in the system messages , and to bee more specific we changed the skin of the site ,Not from the monobook but from the special pages using that new feature called customize the wiki and we don’t know how to go back to the original one, We made a big mess and we don’t know how to fix it. we need urgent help, ThanksClassic 971 16:49, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I believe sannse and the techs fixed this; CustomizeWiki seems to be a bit of beta-feature at the moment. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 17:31, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki redirects Edit

Considering interwiki redirect doesn't actually work, and you seem to be just copy-pasting the stuff on your user page and talk page on other wikis anyways, it probably be much friendly if you invest in some time to type up something with a link, instead of just having a redirect that doesn't automatically redirect. This is regarding w:c:alicesoft:user_talk:Jack Phoenix. -Afker 06:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Quite honestly, I fail to see the 'problem' with interwiki redirects. They work exactly as they should; they redirect the user to this page - even though not automatically - which is where all messages to me should be left. I want to keep things tidy across 4000+ wikis; having a real talkpage on every single wiki would be just painful and it'd be too hard to keep track of issues, bugs and such things.
Besides, automatic interwiki redirects would be horrible, even inside * sites. My userpage template quite clearly explains who I am and where to contact me. I'm quite positive that most people check userpages before talkpages. ;-)
--Jack Phoenix (Contact) 11:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
These redirects are included on Special:Brokenredirects.  If they are "working exactly as they should", then such inclusion is a bug, is it not?    Ryan W 05:11, 15 January 2008 (UTC)   Indeed it is!  Please disregard.   :>     Ryan W 11:52, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Help! Edit

My wikia request [2]. Shouldn't it be created?? :S Thnx Alexandru 10:11, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

From a quick look, that request looks pretty promising to me. Unfortunately, there's nothing much that I can do - I suggest you leave a message to a member of Wikia's Community Team, they are the people that usually close requests. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 10:24, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Hitman Wiki Edit

Hello Jack, I’m relatively new to Wikia and I just stumbled upon the Hitman Wiki. I noticed you were the only blue account on the wiki, so I hope you don’t mind me asking for some guidance. The Main Page was started by an anon, and both the sysop and bureaucrat user lists are empty, so I couldn’t find a better person to go to! I’m wondering, why are the two user lists empty, and what does it take to become a sysop or bureaucrat? If there’s a situation that requires an admin’s attention (e.g. persistent vandalism), who can I go to for help? —Shidou 03:56, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

User rights log on Hitman Wiki shows that the initial founder who had bureaucrat & admin access was desysopped for some reason. If you'd like to become an admin on a wiki, you could adopt it or if there's a bit of community in the wiki, create a page like Project:Requests for adminship, put your request there and after some time, show it to a member of Wikia's Community Team who will then grant administrator access to you.
In general, if a wiki with no (active) admins has problems with, for example, vandalism, it's better to ask help from a member of the Community Team or then from a janitor, such as myself. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 09:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for your help! —Shidou 19:49, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jack, I noticed that you made a stop at the CSI wiki and I'm not sure exactly what you deleted but I am sure it was some helpful clean up type thing. It seems like you can answer my question or direct me to someone who can as I am still not clear after reading wiki policy (or maybe I am just overly cautious). When putting an image such as a screen cap on wiki am I allowed to do so as long as the source is credited. The image is obviously copyrighted especially comming from a tv show. I just don't want to break any rules. Thanks Proudofthefish 17:21, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I just deleted one spam page created by a spambot, nothing bigger. From what I know, it is ok to upload screenshots as long as you tag them appropriately. For example, you could copy w:c:swmerchandise:Template:Fairuse (or another Fair use template) to CSI Wikia and tag the screenshot images with {{Fairuse}}. And of course, mentioning the source is always a good idea. :-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 17:48, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
That makes sense. Thanks for the help. Proudofthefish 18:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
No problem, I'm happy to help. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 18:15, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Dark709 Wiki Edit

I have made a significant amount of changes to the Dark709 Wiki for approximately one week, and I stated editing it when it became inactive. Would you please (if you're not too busy) A. Check the credibility of my first statement and B. See if I can adopt the wiki and gain administrative access to it, because there are some pages so perfect that they are better off left locked. —This unsigned comment is by Toa of Mirrors (talkcontribs).

I trust you, as I do to all other Wikians. :) I checked the wiki's recent changes and it looks good to me. I see no reason why you couldn't adopt it. Go ahead and ask a member of the Community Team for administrator access. But please read Wikia's protection policy and Help:Main Page first. Pages shouldn't be protected unless they're a target of repeated vandalism. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 18:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I am now a sysop and bureaucrat there and they said in an email that I've gained administrative access to the wiki. Does that mean its Wikia portal page should say I've adopted it?--Sir Phil Mirrory, Toa of Mirrors 03:41, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, this is a wiki, meaning that you could've edited it yourself too, but I fixed the Dark709 page to reflect the current status. ;-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:16, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Help for deleting images Edit

Can you please check this? Thanks. And about the Checker-16x16.png, thanks, I couldn't find it out. At least yesterday the monobook/main.css didn't point to that file, and it was missing. Then you can delete it if you want --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 08:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for reporting that, I've deleted the junk and banned the vandal.
The problem with Checker-16x16.png and main.css is a bit complicated one. By default, the image can be found under /skins/common/images/, but main.css expects it to be located under /skins/monobook/. For the time being, you'll have to use the URL or ask a Community Team / Technical Team member to copy Checker-16x16.png from /skins/common/images/ to /skins/monobook/. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:18, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I found that the same image exists under /skins/common/images/Checker-16x16.png in all wikias, so placing it in a css would be safer than a URI with a skin version, that could change eventually. --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 17:03, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Apparently I didn't search hard enough. ;-) Good to know it's there. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 17:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey Edit

Look, I was banned for "Vandalism" on the E-Wrestling Wikia. Ms Brittany is my friend, and I was trying to Re-Construct her Wikia Pedia. Is their anyway I could get Un-Banned as I play Alexis Rose and I really need to Update her Wikia. —This unsigned comment is by Meme2k8 (talkcontribs).

Well, the ban is only for two weeks. Besides, replacing page content with "dot." or "mememe" seems like vandalism to most wiki administrators. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 11:58, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I was seeing if it worked. I didn't understand on how when I changed something, it automatically changed back. Maybe it was because we were using my computer. Is their anyway the ban can shorten? My Wiki means allot to my E-Wrestling Character and I really need to update it. =) Please. —This unsigned comment is by Meme2k8 (talkcontribs).

Fine. I have unbanned you from ewrestling.wikia. In the future, please make editing tests and such on pages like Project:Sandbox. Pages like that exist on most Wikia and they are meant for editing tests. Happy editing. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 12:15, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Heya! I just wanna say thanks for unblocking me. Yeah, I wont mess up again this time. Thanks Again! =D—This unsigned comment is by Meme2k8 (talkcontribs).

Adoption Reverted ... Edit

Hello Jack,

I adopted the page, made some changes and two seconds later it appears they were reverted by you. I'm not exactly sure why, although I'm trying to do wikia a favor here.

Regards --VIP 17:29, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

You made a rather large removal to the page - that is not what is called adoption. Adoption means basically that you improve the wiki in terms of content and ask for administrator access if there's a need to have an active user with administrative privileges. You basically removed even the most basic info about the wiki, like its address and original founder and main language from the page - I'm sure a lot of people would view your changes as vandalism. Please see adopt this wiki page for details on how to adopt an inactive Wikia. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 17:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Like I said before, I was trying to help and I'm no Vandal. Apparently you might misinterpreted my decision to clean up things and make it more professional. I'll just leave it be since it was perfect like it was ... my apology. --VIP 18:15, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright licenses on Wikia Edit

Hello. I noticed your convenient user page info at

I am sysoping at the Cannabis Wikia, and I am trying to figure out how to use image licenses on Wikia. I want to recommend license tags to people who want to upload their event photos.

The following licenses are considered the best image licenses according to the lead section of commons:Commons:Choosing a license.

For more info please see:

wikipedia:Wikipedia talk:Upload#What are the best licenses for donating one's own images?

commons:MediaWiki talk:Uploadtext/ownwork#What are the best licenses for donating one's own images?

There are examples there of what the image license templates produce at wikipedia and the wikimedia commons.

The license templates don't seem to work on Cannabis Wikia. They both produce red links. See

On your user talk page, one of the license templates works, but not the other. See below:

This file was uploaded by the photographer or author.

I, the creator of this image, hereby release it into the public domain. This applies worldwide.

The Cannabis Wikia upload form does not discuss image licenses at all. See:

Hi there, I'm not exactly sure what's the question any case, I've added Template:Self from Wikimedia Commons to the Cannabis Wikia. See Category:Image wiki templates on Starter Wikia for a list of templates that may be useful to your wiki.
If the license templates produce red links on the Cannabis Wikia, that means that the image license templates do not exist yet on the wiki. You can copy basic starter license templates from Starter Wikia to the Cannabis Wikia.
If you want to change the text that is displayed in the upload file form, you need administrator privileges on the wiki. Then you will need to edit the page called MediaWiki:Uploadtext over there. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for all the help and links. It looks like I can edit MediaWiki:Uploadtext at Cannabis Wikia. I need to copy some license templates, too. I did not realize I could edit the upload form, or create license templates. One can't edit many of the upload forms on wikipedia or wikimedia commons unless one is an admin. I now see that being a sysop at Cannabis Wikia gives me admin privileges to do this here. --Timeshifter 04:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't know if I can edit the upload form itself. I don't think so. I don't see an edit button at w:c:cannabis:Special:Upload. Can you edit it? I would like one of those upload forms with a bunch of choices in a selector menu. As you pointed out I can edit the text at the top of the upload form by going here: w:c:cannabis:MediaWiki:Uploadtext. I can also start templates as you did with w:c:cannabis:Template:Self. But it looks like a steep learning curve with many idiosyncrasies peculiar to Wikia's implementation of MediaWiki software. If you could set up a standard selection of templates, coordinated with a standard selector menu, I would have something to work with, and that I could go back to if I, or others, mess them up with later edits. --Timeshifter 09:24, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
No, Special:Upload is a special page, and those cannot be edited like normal pages. To get the license selector, you have to edit MediaWiki:Licenses. Syntax is like this:
**name of template|Text displayed to users
For example:
*Copyright-free files
**PD|This file has been released into the public domain worldwide.
Feel free to ask away if there are any further questions that need answering. :-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 12:35, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks again. I guess by adding templates, editing w:c:cannabis:MediaWiki:Licenses, and editing w:c:cannabis:MediaWiki:Uploadtext I can do everything. Now for the hard part: picking the licenses. And I mistakenly thought Wikis were supposed to be easy! And I am a webmaster, too. Wiki software has a long way to go on the user end in order to be easier than WYSIWYG HTML. And WYSIWYG HTML sucks! Whatever happened to the old easy editing programs like FrontPage Express? Why can't everything be as easy as the compose window of Google Mail? Just shoot me now. :) --Timeshifter 14:35, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
No problem, I'm here to help Wikians with any possible problems and issues. And yes, by creating templates, editing the MediaWiki-prefixed pages you are able to achieve what you wanted.
Wikis, from a technical point of view, are rather easy (well, I'm not much of a programmer, but still...) but not that easy from the community POV: on a normal WYSIWYG HTML website, nobody really cared if there was or wasn't copyright info about images. On wikis, it's different - a lot of things are different in a wiki and that's what makes it so fun! ;-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 15:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Probably some false positives...

Sims WikiEdit

I was wondering if you could delete a few pages which are kinda pointless (to me). Here are my suggestions:

.elizabeth (this one doesn't have anything to do with the game)

Current events (this one has only had spam and nothing else)

Noob (relevant to the game but pointless because it's already covered in the Gamer page)

Service (a copy of the Services page--so not really needed)

sims have to many expantion paks lol The sims have to many expantion paks lol (spam)

limiter Object limiter (made from spam)

specter Olive specter (spam)

Crumplebottom Simon Crumplebottom (spam!)

So what do you think?

~ Makiah 22:44, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Makiah, I've deleted all other pages but the Service one - I redirected that to Services page. It seems that the wiki's only admin hasn't edited since 2005 and it could use a new admin. Please let me know if you want to adopt the Sims Wikia. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 23:17, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
