Can you make me an admin on the Fairly Odd Parents wiki? I would ask a bureaucrat or admin on the wiki but they're inactive. I shoyld become an admin because I help out on the wiki a lot and there are several spam/vandal articles that should be removed. So can I become an admin?
I am very outraged, so I will write a lot and occasionally use caps.
First of all let me say (because we do not know each other and in such cases it's sooooo easy to get the wrong idea): I am an extremely tolerant person, I dislike trolling, I actually do not even believe in right/wrong, good/evil, moral etc., and I consider opinions to be 100% subjective, just like feeling and tastes, therefore I would never contradict/attack anybody's opinion.
But despite this, a few things are for me an absolute and universal NO GO.
Pedophilia and child abuse, for example.
Now straight to the point.
I am watching a TONS of animes. And I have noticed a pattern of sexism, and sometimes also pedophilia and incest. All showed as pleasant, positive, normal, fantastic and wonderful.
Now, I do NOT believe that Fandom is a place where people should escape reality numbing themselves with visual/narrative drugs and living in a comfortable illusion like the land of toys in Pinocchio. I believe that the role of a place like Fandom is to make reality better, not to ignore it.
Sure, I am the first who watch rather fantasy and sci-fi than “daily-life-like” drama.
BUT I believe that Mass Media, including any show (not only anime) have a DEEP influence on the global culture and imaginary, and that when a message is repeated over and over again, it DOES have effects on our beliefs and behavior, specially if that happens at a young and manipulable age like the average target audience of most anime.
E.g., if something which in our culture is considered immoral and is actually illegal, is showed as normal and even positive/desirable in several anime, young people (teenagers and pre-teenagers) WILL instinctively absorb this belief/behavior, and will find it normal and even cool.
That's why in Countries where smoking is considered a danger, publicity where smoking is showed as cool is illegal.
Anything which directly or indirectly incites to something which is considered immoral/illegal, is NOT allowed. And that is a fact, not an option.
So I opened that thread and I only discussed of incest IN THAT ANIME, not in all anime, and not in Japanese culture. Just THAT ANIME.
Also, my post was NOT an indiscriminate trolling but a considerate and fair discussion with NO offensive terms whatsoever, and BY NO MEANS it was any kind of flamebait.
But I have been locked down for "violation of the guidelines" and THREATENED of further repercussions. There also was a mention to the fact that I supposedly attacked Japanese culture (which is completely FALSE, I just mentioned it, and for the sake of FAIRNESS, to point out that Japanese traditions and laws are different than ours, and that no matter how much we agree or disagree with them, this should be considered).
I've therefore read ALL possible rules and guidelines of Fandom and of that specific wikia/forum.
I have found NOTHING AT ALL about not talking of this kind of topics, and NOTHING about not mentioning local culture/traditions.
BUT, I have found something about how Admins should ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION and make people feel WELCOME.
Now, I have been locked and threatened in my FIRST POST in that wikia. I seriously doubt that ANYBODY (apart biased fellow admins and staff members who might want to defend their colleagues and the good name of Fandom) would ever consider this "encouraging and welcoming".
Indeed, I am sure that anybody in his right mind would see it as a completely subjective and arbitrary ABUSE OF POWER with ZERO base on any written guideline.
And I am sure you can understand that being locked AND threatened because of some mysterious abstract subjective non-written rules, is not a good thing, in ANY forum.
So, I have complained with a Staff member, Tim (I picked him for no reason, just because he was shown first). Another staff member replied, Kirkburn, and with a cold diplomacy attacked me and locked the thread saying that these topics are not welcome in Fandom.
I am SHOCKED, DISGUSTED and TERRIFIED!!!
I just can't believe it. Not only we face animes which show pedophilia and incest as normal and desirable, but we are not even allowed to talk about it, otherwise our threads are locked and we must expect "repercussions"??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am I having some kind of nightmare, or is this the final proof that this world has reached rock bottom?
As (apparently) Fandom's chef, can you agree with Kirkburn's opinion that Fandom is only for trivial things like "who would win"?
If this what being fan is about? Being blind and biased, attacking whoever has a critical view, and closing BOTH eyes on anything which shows a connection to real reality and breaks the illusion that by watching some show we are exonerated from our social responsibility and that in a show ALL is allowed?
I ask you PLEASE to have a look at this case, an impartial look, overcoming the understandable instinct of “protecting” your colleagues.
And, to be clear, I will NOT take into consideration the answer of any other Staff member, because I already have the behavior of an admin and the opinion of a staff member, so I am not looking for a statistical but for a hierarchical solution.
I have chosen YOU, and I wish an answer from YOU.
