Serious Vandalism on the Kirby Wiki Edit

THE GREAT KAZOO made a mass vandalism attack on the Kirby Wiki, it consisted of Uploading Kirby related Hentai to the wiki and placing the images on various pages including a number on the Main Page. I've since reverted every last one of his edits (Hiding as many of them from the rc as possible), deleted the new pages which were created by him with the images only on them, and of course deleted all of the images. But I'm just an admin helping the encyclopedia, which means that I'm not the only admin there which has access to the deleted pages. This wouldn't be a normal issue for the times when deleted images were actually deleted, but since deleted images are actually kept I'd like to ask you to delete all of his uploads off Wikia's servers so that the other admins don't run into them. Even oversighting them would be helpful. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 16, 2007 @ 08:31 (UTC)

Admins can't run into them unless they purposefully try to undelete those images. Oversighting doesn't work for images. Do you think any admins are likely to try undeleting these? Perhaps they shouldn't be admins if that is the case? Angela talk 13:05, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
There's always the possibility of looking through the deleted images list one day and running into the image to see what was deleted. But generally I'd say that it's not that good to have 30+ of those type of images on the servers. We actually lost 2 potential editors on The Gaiapedia once just from someone uploading 1 of those type of images. And losing admins isn't that nice (I think Max2 gave some of the good editors Sysop status), and I have a feeling most of the other Sysops are younger than me added to that. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 16, 2007 @ 19:22 (UTC)
I've requested a new feature to deal with such images. Angela talk 14:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

80 KIRBY WIKI?!?!?! not the English one! Max2 Talk My Wiki.

Max - what do you mean? Angela talk 19:08, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I thought he meant the english Kirby Wiki. sorry. I was sorta freaked out... but I checked, and it wasn't there. {{SUBST:nosubst|User:Max2/sig}}

Nope, you were right. I don't have Sysop status on the other Kirby wiki. It was the English Kirby wiki. You just don't see it because I did I good enough job of removing all the images and hiding his edits. If you'll look over w:c:en.kirby:Special:Log/delete you'll see that there were a bunch of those images deleted (For sanity's sake, don't look at the images) and the images removed from a number of pages. You just didn't notice it cause I used &bot=1 to hide the reverts from the recent changes (Which also removed the edits from the recent changes to). And thanks Angela for the info on that upcoming feature, I'll probably get rid of those when that comes around. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 18, 2007 @ 02:30 (UTC)

Wikia:Administrators Edit

There were two votes oppose Leon2323's request, [1], one mine [2], second by DCLXVI [3], [4]. What's the point of making him admin now? Szoferka 20:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Because I feel that Leon has answered the opposition in the Comments and questions section. He removed the advert from his user page and explained why he did that, and explained what he meant by improving system messages - which is fine for him to do. He didn't say he wasn't going to propose big changes on the talk page first. Angela talk 20:40, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Ja.Howto MediaWiki namespace usage. Edit

Hi, I am writing in response to the message about the usage of the MediaWiki namespace usage.

I would gladly try using the project's namespace, as presently the project's namespace is not used (no important articles that are linked from the main page are there).

However, if I put the pages into the project's namespace now, I am afraid that the pages might disappear after the change of the namespace in the near future. (I have made a request for the change of the namespace recently.)

So, if I put articles in that namespace, would they not disappear after the change of the namespace?

Inyuki 13:11, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Pages won't disappear if you put them in the current namespace name. Just don't put them in the new namespace until it is created. If you want to link to the pages, you can use [[Project:]] which will always redirect to the right place even after the rename. Angela talk 13:23, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I got it. みんでぃ 13:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
How do I link to the talk pages using the Project: namespace? I mean, if I make a link such as Project‐ノート:類似したサイト replacing the ウィキテク (present project namespace) with the word "Project", that wouldn't work. Is there a way to actually make a link to a talk page using the Project: namespace? みんでぃ 14:18, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
You can use [[Project talk:]]. Angela talk 14:29, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. It's done. By the way, is there some simpler way of dealing with multiple pages. For example, changing the links in a number of pages by some batch process? Is it necessary to use the bot for that? みんでぃ 14:47, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
There's no MediaWiki feature to do that, so it would need a bot. Angela talk 15:20, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, a bot is needed, but for a simple link changing you can get away with only using the replace.py bot in the pywikipedia framework. python replace.py -family:... -start:! -regex "\[\[Something:([^\]]+)\]\]" "[[Somethingelse:\1]]" If your old namespace was Something and the new one was Somethingelse then that would fix all the links in the main namespace of the selected wiki. Just ask me if you need help setting up a family for use with the bots. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 17, 2007 @ 16:45 (UTC)

Idea for the Statistics issue Edit

I remembered the reasoning of why GoogleAnalytics weren't being added to wiki here anymore when I was browsing MediaWiki.org for extensions which could do what I need for the Wikia Anime Project, and I ran back into one of the extensions I saw some time ago and realized it might be of some help to allowing people to view statistics on Wikia wikis without needing to add any analytics code to encyclopedias. Have you seen the FireStats extension before? It's made to be integrated into MediaWiki unlike analytics and it provides browser and OS statistics in an even more user friendly manor than Analytics does. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 18, 2007 @ 02:26 (UTC)

Sadly that is non-free software. They say it can't be used commercially, so this isn't something we'd want to integrate with wikia. However, we are working on a wikistats solution that can be easily used on all wikis. Angela talk 11:43, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
That will be great ! Keep up the good work. ;-) — TůζipVõrζąx Talk 22:29, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

University wiki Edit

Hi Angela. I just came from a meeting with my university's IT assistant director (strategic planning) and reviewed the possibilities of incorporating a wiki to NEIU. He liked the idea of starting a collaboration site designated for student interaction. Apparently, there are other departments who are in the process of considering similar options and possibilities. He would like to see our department run a test pilot of this departamental wiki, and proceed from there. He further suggested that for now, he would agree with wikia hosting the URL and was curious to know how much would it cost him to remove the ads from the site. Thanks. macRadu 15:28, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll reply at w:c:neiu:user talk:Rdpurtuc. Angela talk 15:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

VariablesExtension and StringFunctions Edit

Could you install the VariablesExtension and the StringFunctions parser functions on Wikia? It would really help with many things (like automatic scorekeeping) on the Triple Triad Wiki. Please respond on my TripleTriad talk page. Thank you. --SkizzerzT - C - SW 20:47, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

The problem with these extensions is that they are not scalable. They have serious performance and cache issues, and poor protection against DDOS. It also makes it much harder for people to edit the wiki if the wikitext basically becomes a programming language! It's possible that the regular parser functions we have can be used to do this though. Please contact Splarka if you need help with that. Angela talk 21:48, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

WAP Code Aims? Edit

While building the extensions for the WAP which give it it's Mini Wiki type abilitys, and it's ability to link to Anime on the Animepedia and other Wiki with the same style of simple link I ran into some code differences in includes/Title.php and now I'm thinking on what aim I should put these extensions towards. Should this be the start of another new Wikia code base (Such as the existing general Wikia, magazines code, and seperate Uncyclopedia code) which aims for the ability to create Wikia with MiniWiki capabilities and the ability to share things with other Wikia it is grouped with. Or should I aim the extensions to be something with a list of code changes which just need to be quickly re-added when a new version of the general code is added and tryes to interact with the code as little as possible. I'll give a explanation of the code difference later, can't at the moment. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 19, 2007 @ 18:06 (UTC)

An extension would almost certainly be the best way of doing this. We hope to eventually bring the wiki & magazine codebases together, so certainly avoid trying to create another one. Angela talk 20:34, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I'll do it that way (Though I don't think it'll be very possible for me to make the links work like local links). My issue with includes/Title.php though was inside of the userCan($action) function. In 1.9.3 the code which auto-protects the MediaWiki namespace is:
		// XXX: This is the code that prevents unprotecting a page in NS_MEDIAWIKI
		// from taking effect -ævar
		if( NS_MEDIAWIKI == $this->mNamespace &&
		    !$wgUser->isAllowed('editinterface') ) {
			wfProfileOut( $fname );
			return false;
		}

But in 1.10 it's been rewritten to something like:

		if ( array_key_exists( $this->mNamespace, $wgNamespaceProtection ) ) {
			$nsProt = $wgNamespaceProtection[ $this->mNamespace ];
			if ( !is_array($nsProt) ) $nsProt = array($nsProt);
			foreach( $nsProt as $right ) {
				if( '' != $right && !$wgUser->isAllowed( $right ) ) {
					wfProfileOut( $fname );
					return false;
				}
			}
		}

I've been using 1.9.3 code to do my work on the coding and it was a simple case of adding a few bits to that spot (Though in 1.10 I'd just probably add another small section of code). Since some Wikia use 1.10 and some use 1.9.3 and you're trying to piece them together, should I continue developing for 1.9.3 code, or should I setup a 1.10 on my localhost alongside the 1.9.3 code and develop off that? p.s. I've always been curious on how the staff tag is shared. I managed a good semi-shared permissions system using both a shared and local set of permissions tables at the same time, and managed to get the base MW functions to add, grab, and remove them from the proper locations. It popped back in my mind now cause I was debating on if Wikia's current code would support sharing permissions to a set group of Wikia. Almost like the proposed GlobalSysop group, except one which only certain Wikia recognized. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 19, 2007 @ 23:44 (UTC)

Also, other than the Networking, the DataTable extension, and possibly a special limited Userrights/GroupAdministration/Make??????/De????? type page (if it was worth it enough) I thought of making a bit of a kind of upgrade to Special:Movepage. Currently you can only move a page, and are given the option to move the talkpage with it. I wanted to change the system around so that instead of a move talkpage box, you would be given a list with checkboxes beside each item with the talk/article page (Depending on which you're moving), existing subpages, and existing subpages of the talk/article page in the list. And any page which was checked off would be moved along with the page. That basically means that if say, we changed one Anime World which had an ID of fmp which meant all of it's pages were subpages of fmp, and we decided to make it FMP, that movepage upgrade would allow all of the article pages to be moved at the same time. Since it's going to have more than just a few changes, I'm wondering if I should build it as a file to replace includes/SpecialMovepage.php or I should create a Special:Movepage2 and have the code in mediawiki which links to Special:Movepage link to Special:Movepage2 instead. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 20, 2007 @ 07:38 (UTC)
It may be best to make this a separate special page so people can still use the old one if that's what they're used to and they don't want to move subpages. Were you intending to submit this to MediaWiki or just to Wikia? If you'd like it used on Wikimedia, I'd suggest you discuss it on the wikitech mailing list or IRC channel. Angela talk 22:39, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Ya, a separate special page would be best, I decided that when I started coding that. Actually, now that I think of it, it's not possible for it to replace Special:Movepage because Special:MovepageEx (The new tool) loses the ability to move an article into a talk namespace. Articles are always moved to articles, and talkpages are always moved to talknamespaces. Not only that, but while it still is a little buggy, I managed to almost lose my Main Page which I was testing on in the Deleted Revisions. Thinking about how powerful a tool it is, even if you can move something backwards that has been moved I'm starting to think that it should be a Sysop only tool. Also, instead of replacing the tab, I managed to get it to add a new Move Ex tab to the direct right of the Move tab, and it's all done without any code hacking (unlike the other extensions) so this one is done on a purely extension basis. This was just for use on specific Wikia. Other than the Top-level Wikia in the Wikia Anime Project (Most likely going to be renamed to Wikia Graphic Entertainment Project in the final stage) which use a subpage structure to hold all the articles in a Mini Wiki style environment there isn't much use for a tool like this. (Actually, I kinda used the WAP's style classes inside the table to make it look right, so the interface is not exactly compatible outside of where it would be used).
Here's a screenshot of the user interface (The one part which is basically bug free). I'm on my dad's computer using a different server setup for development on this one, so since I just started the attempt of syncing the servers like I do with browsers and files I don't the ability to properly use the other server setup which has the ConNetworking extensions so I can't show you what that has done yet though.
Did any of the Wikia staff ever look over the WikiSkin extension? I know it has the issue that if someone were to blank the skin page then the whole interface would disappear. And also that in his version the sidebar doesn't work properly, the footer doesn't show up right, the toolbox doesn't display, and it doesn't display titles correctly. But I managed to create the extra parts to the code to make all those other things display correctly, I also got around the issue of no skins existing at the start by creating a monobook mw message, and I also fixed the security issue of losing the entire interface and not being able to undo it by creating an uneditable default Monobook interface which shows up when you use &skin=default. Actually, I could probably add a failsafe which forces the default to be used if anything such as the content area is missing. With all of the issues fixed, and the potential to add extra boxes, position the ads in a fitting area, etc... It might be a nice addition which would handle a number of the things that other Wikians are hoping for such as the ability to use the Magazines skins on normal wikia. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 22, 2007 @ 03:49 (UTC)
I'm not sure if anyone has looked at that extension, but we are working on new skins including ways for users to add new parts to the skins, such as tools that they find useful on the wiki. Angela talk 11:32, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Ok. Just if you were wondering, I've finished the MovepageEx extension. I added a Error class to deal with the fact that it handles multiple pages instead of one, and I used a few ques to place the errors in the right location and also to make sure that nothing is moved before everything is validated for safety. The success page also lists all the moved pages. Other than those errors, the code is actually a modified SpecialMovepage.php so there shouldn't be any real errors anymore. Technically it could stand alone and be used in any wiki just by including that one file. Though I do admit that unless you modify MediaWiki:movepageextext the example table does rely on the css classes I built in Anime:MediaWiki:Anime-Box.css. At least I already started using the GE prefix instead of Con or Anime, I think the best final project name would be the Wikia Graphical Entertainment Project, even though the project is still in the Anime stage, because of how much work it is to change the name I think I'm going to start referring to it as the WGEP now. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 22, 2007 @ 12:00 (UTC)

DataTables ExtensionEdit

One of the other extensions I'm developing for the project is the DataTables extension. In simple terms, it allows for a table like data storage structure to be used on a wiki. Basically meaning that listed data such as Episode listing, character names, etc... Can be stored in the database (The tables are created using 4 set database tables, so there's no actual table creation after the setup of the 4 tables (Type, Column, Table, Value). And outputed as single data, a number listed out instead of just one row, and it can be outputed using an output, or as a template call. The biggest advantage of this is being able to list all the Episodes in an anime with their titles, airdate, and episode number and then that data table can be used to output a full episode list, and even output the info which is displayed in Episode navigation boxes which are placed in Episode pages (Not using an automatic method means editing 4 Articles just to change 1 title which leads to missing information and mistyped data).

But thinking it over, I realize that when the templates which would reference these tables are shared other wiki in the project may also have a good use for that same data table extension. Unlike the GENetwork extension the DataTables extension is completely extension built and requires no extra code hacks so it's easier to install (3 Files total at the moment). So it's quite possible that a great thing to do would also be adding that extension to the other projects when it's added to the top-level ones. But it also made me think of something else. While the top-level wiki will use that extension to build over 100 tables to list out all the episodes for different Anime, an individual wiki may actually only utilize 2, 3, or 4 tables to store all the information it needs, which kinda makes the extension seem a little, well... Pointless. Do you think it would be a good idea to add a variable which would allow for the Database info of an other Wikia's database to be used instead of the local one. That would mean that setting that could make the lower level wiki in the project use the tables from the top-level wiki in the project. Which means that while the data would be edited at the top-level wiki instead of the lower-level. It would also mean that larger more global tables could be used, and the top-level wiki could also make use of those other tables. It's probable that all 4 of the projected top-level wiki then should probably use the same set of tables also if that's the case. Though that would reafirm that a 5th wiki over top of the 4 top-level wiki may be needed. Though I already projected that most likely a Graphical Entertainment Wiki may be needed if the project is going to keep Anime, Manga, Cartoons, and Comics sepereate across 4 wiki. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 25, 2007 @ 19:29 (UTC)

To be honest, I have no idea what's best with this. I suggest you contact John (johnq@wikia.com) to discuss this with him, or he might be able to suggest a point of content within Wikia's engineering team. Angela talk 21:03, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've been wanting to talk to someone from the dev team anyways, I'm still curious about the permissions sharing methods. I'll do that. Sorry if I've been asking you to much. You were always the most helpful staff member I've come across. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 25, 2007 @ 22:31 (UTC)
I'm sorry that I can't be of more help now but I think you're getting a bit beyond what I can usefully advise you on. :) Angela talk 01:08, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
It's alright, I'll stick to asking you for help for things like when another wiki wants into the WGEP or at least wants me as an admin to help out. Speaking of that, I was going to wait till I got another vote of feedback before I asked. But on the Dragon Ball Wiki I ran into their comments about wanting an admin when I talked to Burdock, he seamed content with me being one and so I started a forum topic in the wiki. It's been up for a few weeks, but unfortunately other than SUIT none of the other active users have posted any support or opposition even though the users have added comments to their talkpages, and Burdock even placed a message on the Main Page. If you think there is enough support (I was still hoping to get one more comment before I said anything) then the 3 normal tags would be nice. (Sysop on me for normal Administration; Bureaucrat on me so I can promote any user there who appears to be able to handle the task; Bot on AnimeBot cause they have a few mass tasks which the bot could help on).
p.s. When I heard that Special:Makesysop was broken on Wikia with MW1.10 I jumped into that other extension I was planning, Special:RightsControl. I've got the ui about finished and I just need to setup the functions which do the work and it will probably be finished. Potentially it could do the basic tasks of Makesysop, and Giverollback while the pages are broken if Wikia thinks it would be interesting to test. The code is being developed on MW1.10a so it's compatible with the update, and while it looks an awful lot like Special:Userrights it's completely safe. Permissions define who can do what with the form. (rc-mk-flagname, and rc-de-flagname, are used in permissions to define what can be modified and in what direction). But I suppose I'm just saying that cause I can't keep my mouth shut when I have something interesting to say. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 26, 2007 @ 02:08 (UTC)
I've made you a bureaucrat and AnimeBot a bot on the dragonball wiki. Angela talk 16:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
There's a bug in the system, I have the Sysop and Bureaucrat flags. But it won't let me make any action which requires those permissions. Special:Makesysop says its restricted to Bureaucrats and Staff. And The Protect, Delete, etc... Tabs don't show up. Even though the wiki is still MW 1.9.3, I was going to use Makesysop to do the normal task of adding the Sysop flag to AnimeBotSys. ps: Woud a user made for use with MWB/AWB tool usually permitted the abnormal Bot/Sysop flag combination? I was considering using that tool to replace my user actions of using RegexBuddy to do things over and over. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 27, 2007 @ 17:23 (UTC)
Please try logging out and back in again since new user rights are often cached until you do that. sannse would know more about using AWB here. Angela talk 17:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
I visited the site from 2 computers which I don't normally use and are public, and thus had to log in twice both well after my permissions were changed. I logged out and logged back in yet a third time just now and the permissions still have not changed. Thanks, I'll ask Sannse. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 27, 2007 @ 18:47 (UTC)
It's started to work now. If it was a dev's tweak then thanks. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 29, 2007 @ 09:43 (UTC)

Question Edit

Hello, Angela! And what (except for sysop, bureaucrat, bot, rollback) it is possible to receive the rights in the local project, like such? — Afinogenoff ¾ 05:58, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

If you mean the lookupcontribs feature, this isn't something for individual wikis - it's a tool, mostly for staff, to check for edits by vandals across all Wikia sites. Angela talk 22:02, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Just saying hi Edit

Hello Angela, I just wanted to say hello. Thank you for keeping the link to "open project development" in your user page, even if nothing is really improving there. I'm still working on the concept... not sure if mediawiki's THE solution for managing open projects that aren't just related to written content. But I'll still take a look to it from time to time if there's someone that wants to start a project. Thank you for all the help. --Let's 18:00, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Proposals for Wikimedia projects Edit

Hello, I have read here that there can be wikias for rejected languages by Wikimedia. I have also seen here that some projects have their demo at Wikia. I was wondering if it is possible to have also a demo for a proposal for a Wikimedia project? SPQRobin 19:43, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible, though if it's only a small demo, I'd suggest you do that at scratchpad:. Please think carefully about how likely it is for Wikimedia to accept the project. They're not a wiki hosting company and very very rarely are new projects created there, so unless you're happy to continue the project here even without Wikimedia's acceptance, it might not be a good idea to create a new wiki. Angela talk 21:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I think that my proposal has a good chance, also because it has after a few days already three interested people. I had first made a demo here, but it has a very old version (1.5.5) so I hated that website (sorry). That's why I would have a demo here. And yes, I would continue the project if it's rejected. SPQRobin 14:10, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
We have a wiki at w:c:translations which you are welcome to use for this. Angela talk 14:38, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Did you mean w:c:translation? I think that that is more something like Wikisource. SPQRobin 15:38, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
yes, I did. Sorry. The project doesn't have a clear goal yet and isn't active, so it's fine to relaunch it as a demo for short translations. Angela talk 15:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
That would be great! I'll put a question on the talk page of the founder, or have you an other idea? SPQRobin 16:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
The founder hasn't edited since 2005, so instead, I suggest you just explain what you're doing at w:c:translation:Talk:Main Page. Angela talk 16:37, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I have already put a question on his wikipedia talk page (where he is active). SPQRobin 16:55, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
He said 'yes' so I will start changing that wikia. I have asked him for make me a sysop and a bureaucrat there, but he is not active at the moment, so I want to ask if you can do that (if you want that). SPQRobin 16:28, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :-) SPQRobin 17:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm now working on that wikia. But I've got a question: is it possible to change the namespace "Translation:" to "TranslateWiki:" or isn't it possible? SPQRobin 22:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible. I've listed it to be changed, but Datrio usually does these and he's away until Thursday. Angela talk 16:18, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, thanks SPQRobin 18:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Fantendo Edit

Well, I made a redirect on that site, PPP, and it wont work! It worked earlier though, whats happening? Isyou 02:19, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

And creating an article dont work either! Isyou 02:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll reply on that wiki. Angela talk 14:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

When I put in a page not made yet, then it says [[Special:Createpage|creating]], without the link. The redirects seem to be working now, though. Isyou 01:01, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Angela, thanks for informing me about that. I didn't know, I'm sorry. I removed it because I didn't remember other "foreign" description pages had that, but now I know not to do that. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 10:28, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

How do you make a logo?Edit

Hey, I decided to go through with the Wiki, thanks to my friends and Final Fantasy Wiki and you, but I need to know how to make a logo.--Vivi Leonhart 23:17, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Just upload an image called Wiki.png. See Help:Improving your Wikia for more details and other changes you can make. Angela talk 00:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Chinese Campaigns Edit

Hi Angela,

zh.campaigns.wikia.com seems to be down. Did the site get moved to a different server? Chadlupkes 13:10, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure why this has gone. It was on wikiachina.cn for a while but it moved back and now seems missing from both URLs. I'll report it to the techteam. Angela talk 16:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Fantendo Edit

Template:User Edit

Hi Angela,

You created this template a while back, but it wasn't used anywhere except in one userpage, where it didn't appear to be anything but a red link and was placed by a different user, with no edit summary for explanation. I replaced it with the standard user links template from Wikipedia, is that ok? If this is somehow used on other wikis (like on staff userpages, how they grab data from here) or you otherwise would rather have it the other way, then sorry! and feel free to revert. Scottch 02:16, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

This used to work with cross-wiki messages, but then it stopped working, so it shouldn't be in use anywhere (and if it is, it wasn't working anyway), so it's fine to use it for something else. Angela talk 16:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Adopting Gundam Wiki Edit

Hi, I would like to take up the task of reorganising and updating the Gundam Wiki. I hope to do a good job of it and help it meet it's great potential! ValiantHeart

That would be great. Let me know if you need any help. Angela talk 16:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Would it be considered rude if I edit the Main Page? The admins seem to have been inactive for quite a while. I hope to revamp the Main Page to make it more user friendly since it would be a common point of entry. - Valiant 19:52, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, silly me. I just realised I was made a sysop on Gundam Wiki. Thank you Angela! - Valiant 13:52, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Adoption of MTG Wiki Edit

Hello Angela, I was wondering if I could adopt the Magic: The Gathering Wiki? I've been editing it for over a week, and the founder doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon. --Skizzerz talk 15:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Ghost in the ShellEdit

The requestor replied on the request page. He agrees that GITS is the better sitname/project namespace. You said that http://ghostintheshell.wikic.com would be made to link later, so is might be slightly easy to just add a quick sitename change with that. Oh ya, he also seams interested in being part of the WGEP so the normal procedure; S/B on me, and Bot on AnimeBot. Thanks for the help, i'll try to help this one start up easier then the other inactive animanga wikia ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 29, 2007 @ 21:49 (UTC)

It's not something that's quick to fix anymore (not until we get a new tool that lets us edit this), so unless it's really important, I'd rather leave it as it is until we move the wiki from en. Angela talk 16:18, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
It's namespace changes that aren't easy anymore now right? Well, if there's anything that isn't easy to do anymore then it can wait. I already use Project: most of the time anyways. I got an e-mail(he's not used to the MW talkpages, etc... yet) from the founder asking for more information on the WGEP so that he could understand what he'd half to do. He said he was interested in the Ghost in the Shell Wiki being part of the WGEP. Actually it lead me to making a more informative page about the project. I got a nice Main Page on GITS, unfortunately it's not looking so nice until I get the global styles setup. I actualy setup a new account for use with AWB to replace my use of a slow Regex tool, I'll probably also be using it in place of replace.py most of the time. So since it's easier to do it when things are already being done User:DantmanAWB could use the normal bot flag in adition to the User:AnimeBot and my normal Sysop/Bureaucrat flags. (This is making me think semi shared permissions would be helpful, but that's to technical) ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 1, 2007 @ 18:20 (UTC)
User:AnimeBot is run by my Pywikipedia bot framework, when I get added to the checkpage User:DantmanAWB will be run by MWB. So basically I'm hoping to in the end have DantmanAWB have a bot flag in all the places which either AnimeBot or GaiaBot have bot status, but I'm just starting out with asking you to add the bot flag to both AnimeBot and DantmanAWB on the GITS Wiki cause I'm a little to nice to ask you to go to all the trouble of adding the Bot flag to DantmanAWB on The Gaiapedia, Animepedia, Narutopedia, InuYasha Wiki, and Dragon Ball Wiki since the only thing I'm actually needing flags added to me on is the GITS Wiki where I also need Sysop/Bureaucrat on me and Bot on AnimeBot. So yes, Sysop and Bureaucrat on me, and Bot on User:AnimeBot, and User:DantmanAWB on the Ghost in the Shell Wiki. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 00:53 (UTC)
I wish there was some sort of SemiBot flag on central. I run User:Dantmanbot, who's soul purpose is to copy some of my userspace to central. AnimeBot does the work on all the other wiki this is done to and because it's set with Bot there, no issues are run into. But Dantmanbot has issues on central, many times it fails to copy my stuff to central, and as a result I've begun to avoid running Dantman-UserClone-Bot.py and instead been manually using the WikiSwitch clone feature to clone edited pages. Unfortunately this is a little time consuming because I half to wait for each page to load, and I think it's at least 5 wiki I half to clone pages to (I'm cloning 5 different pages at the moment, that's over 25 page loads). But obviously it wouldn't be right to ask for Bot or any other tag on Dantmanbot because edits are hidden from the recent changes, but it would be nice if there was a tag other than Sysop, or Bot, which gives the advantage of removing the ping and move restrictions which halt bots from working properly in some cases without a bot flag, without having to grant the user extra permissions like admin stuff, or hidden edits. (Or does rollback also remove ping restrictions?) ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 01:09 (UTC)
I've made those 2 accounts bots there. I'll make you a sysop, but there's no urgent need for another bureaucrat. Really the founder of that wiki ought to handle at least the first few people that need adminship there. Angela talk 01:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if rollback removes ping restrictions, but I've given Dantmanbot rollback on scratchpad: so that you can try it out there. Angela talk 01:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, the Bureaucrat is actually there firstly because of AnimeBotSys, but also because the WGEP uses a 3 layer administration model instead of the old 2 layer model in which Project Heads are also responsible with helping the local communities out with making new admins should the admins for the local project become inactive, but I'll do without that for now. Thanks, I'll modify the UserClone script and add scratchpad and see if any issues are run into (Like page creation). Though, I suppose that means that I'll be adding my userpage to a wiki I don't edit... oh well. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 01:34 (UTC)
This makes me feel bad... On my birthday... Apparently my issue was not a ping restriction conflicting with the bot. It was this, this is what was in Dantman-UserClone-Bot.py:
		for site in siteList:
			sitePage = wikipedia.Page(site, page)
			siteSource = sitePage.get()
			try:
				siteSource = sitePage.get()
			except wikipedia.NoPage:
				wikipedia.output(u'Site %s has no %s page, creating it' % (site, page))
And this is what was in GE-AutoTemplate-Bot.py which has always worked, and that code was based on:
		if templateSource != u'':
			for site in siteList:
				sitePage = wikipedia.Page(site, template, None, 10)#10=Template Namespace
				siteSource = u''
				try:
					siteSource = sitePage.get()
				except wikipedia.NoPage:
					wikipedia.output(u'Site %s has no %s template, creating it' % (site, template))
T_T I had issues with page creation, with it complaining about a wikipedia.NoPage exception. But I had that exception handled, because I was looking inside the try. I didn't notice that I had an extra sitePage.get() outside of that try statement which was left un-handled and should have just been blank text. Well, anyways... Since you went to the trouble, I'll create Test1, Test2, Test3 and manually test for a restriction. Move page restrictions work with the same code as the Ping restrictions. So if I get an internal server error if I try to move Test3 after moving the first two when I'm using Dantmanbot, then there's no ping restriction removal. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 02:10 (UTC)
Failed... Rollbacks don't have the same ping removing permissions that Bots, Sysops, Bureaucrats, and Staff have. Perhaps, a NoPing flag would be the best name if it was a good idea. You can move scratchpad:Test1x back to Test1, and delete Test1x, Test2x, and Test2 if you want to, the bot doesn't need rollback whenever you have spare time, it's not to important. Well, at least I fixed my bot, I think I'll alter the code so that instead of only doing central and the WGEP, it'll also grab a list of other wiki to copy to in addition, instead of making me manually do them. Thanks. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 02:22 (UTC)
Happy Birthday! Have you thought of using shared messages instead of copying the pages to each wiki? What exactly does NoPing do? And what do you need it to do? Would just removing the move restrictions for certain user groups help? Or is it more than that? Angela talk 02:56, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, that makes me 18 now. I attempted transcluding a userpage, but that failed horribly. The caching is evil as another user states. Not only that, but there's also the things such as how SITENAME, and other things are not local, and you can't pass parameters to customize the output, things like the Useful Links which is different on some wiki can't be altered in that case, and at the absolute worst, while all that is not local, the CSS is. So a number of things don't work, not to mention the fact that no matter how much you purge it you can't make changes show up on other wiki properly. That would ruin everything from the status/stress changer, to the additions of new wiki to the different sections on my userpage. Other than being shared, my userpage takes advantage of wiki independent parserfunction tricks in some cases. It's built so that things like the Userboxes which should only show up on the WGEP wiki only shows there, the Useful Links normally has 2 or 3 parts, but as you see on Central and on the Animepedia there are a number of extras there.
I don't know if you remember. But back when I started using the pywikipedia bot framework I ran into a few bugs on which stopped bots from working and returned various errors, even when the bot flag was on the user. I don't know what was changed, but I reported them in the forums and the tech team fixed a number of things so that the bot flag eliminates a lot of barriers which are used to protect MW from normal users trying to spam up a wiki, because they hinder a bot's ability to work right, and sometimes cause them to fail. All I know is that other than hiding edits from the rc, the bot flag (and also the Sysop flag after I think I made a few other reports) fixes a lot more problems than just allowing a user to move more than 2 pages every few minutes. Technically, the NoPing would be made probably by duplicating the permissions of the bot flag, and then removing the one which hides edits from the rc. At least, hopefully. Cause I don't know if the tech team hooked the other limiters into the normal bot permission or into other permissions. But I wouldn't say it's to important right now, especially with the MW1.10a Allpages... Something was wrong with it when I ran ImageMirrorBot and I might not be able to share images for awhile for the new wiki in the project, but I already noted that on the bugs page. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 04:55 (UTC)

Why you have erased our Wiki? Edit

Dear Angela,

why do you have erased our Wiki? It is very important for us and so I can't understand why you could erase such a big work without notifying the user of this Wiki. So please do not erase our Wiki (http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/TICommunity) again. It is very important for our work at university. After our presentation in one week we will erase it by ourself. By the way - it is not a very fine way to handle with the members of a community to erase long entries of them without giving them a notice why you did this and how we could rebuild them. But good to know that we have to choose in future another supplier for our work!

Requests.wikia.com isn't the place to make a wiki. It's the place to request one. The actual content should go on the wiki when it is created. If you want to create content before then, please use scratchpad:. Angela talk 18:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Edit

As a matter of interest, how much would it cost to have google ads removed from a particular wiki. I'm suggesting that we pay you rather than google basically, just wanted to know roughly how much per month it would cost, whether bandwidth would be involved, etc. --Eucarya Talk 09:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but this isn't an option at Wikia. The revenue doesn't cover the cost of hosting yet anyway. If there are particular problems with the ads, such as gold-selling ads appearing, we can try to block those. Angela talk 18:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Full Metal Alchemist Wiki Edit

I wasn't sure what the FMA Wiki's position on the WGEP was before, because the founder confused me after he added the Sysop flag to me. But after explaining the project to him he responded by also adding Bureaucrat to me... So the only thing missing is the Bot flags on AnimeBot and DantmanAWB, I won't add fmp to Anime:Project:Bots/Wiki until he directly says yes to wanting the FMP Wiki to be part of the WGEP, but since he's admining me I'll probably help out with AnimeBot doing double-redirect fixing, and various mass changes on the wiki that they request even if they don't join the WGEP. But considering this, I definately won't run the WGEP bots there until after AnimeBot has bot, and they have also said yes. The thought of running it and seeing all that, or having to undo all that is quite scary. ps: Thanks for the help with the GITS Wiki again, this is the first time I've experimented with adding a fresh Wikia wiki to the WGEP, so it's a little different than adding an old one, cause instead of setting up the forums, I half to alter the existing system. And then there's the default help, I half to expand the Global WGEP help before anything can be done about local stuff. Well, most likely I'll build a setup script. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 20:14 (UTC)

Size and movement Edit

I'm sure you remember that the WGEP is going to expand into Manga, Comics, and Cartoons in the future. And obviously this means that the Animepedia wouldn't fit as the top-level Wikia which stores the shared content. Because of that I know that one day a wiki would probably half to be made for the Wikia Graphical Entertainment Project itself, kinda a Sub central wiki for the WGEP for managing the project and holding content which isn't specific to one area. At the moment I can think of these estimates on what would half to be moved from the Animepedia to a wiki like that:

  • Estimate 68 Templates
  • Estimate 40 Images
  • Estimate 16 Global Styles/Scripts
  • Estimate 12 UserBoxes
  • Estimate 87 Categories (Some of which must be done manually)
  • Estimate 30 Global Information/Guide/Contact/Policy pages
  • Estimate 24 Global Help Pages (Plus the information in the Default Setup help needs to be added to the Global Help to replace the stuff)

And I'm sure that there's more that I can't think of. Not to mention that in each wiki in the Project 4 pages need to be altered to reference the new pages instead of the old Global pages. And the project has already reached 4 wiki with 3 more wiki with high joining potential, 2 wiki with possible future joining potential, and of course it should be remembered that the actual thing which would trigger the need for the new wiki is actually the addition of another wiki which would be a top-level wiki(eg: Manga Wiki). (Not to mention that I'll half to alter my personal monobook.js and monobook.css, on 16 wiki... Potentially also smoke.js and smoke.css when the skin comes out T_T)

Also other than the pages there, I also half to move the BotInfo pages, and modify the Bot Source code to read from the new wiki.

So what I'm really wondering is, how long should I wait. I've held away from the Manga Wiki (Which has been inactive for over 3 months now) deciding that I'd bring it in when either the project gets big enough, or I get 2 users making comments that they want me to expand the project into Phase 2 (Manga). If you're wondering what other future purpose the wiki would serve other than as a storage place for the Shared content, I've got a few things:
  • Company Info (Different companies like VIZ Media, FUNimation, etc... Would have their information in the Global area instead of in local spots)
  • General Definitions (Because many definitions are used on more than one area, things like Anime, Manga, han'yō (genre), and terms like Shikigami and Shinigami)
  • General Information (Help pages, pages describing the project, project policies, etc... would be located there)
  • Crossover lists (While the Animepedia would list all the Anime, and the Manga(pedia| Wiki)(I don't know about the name... I'll half to ask the community for opinions on Technical vs. Visual) would list all the Manga. But the top wiki over them all would probably also list pages which list the Anime, Manga, Comic, and Cartoon versions of each series as well as any wiki which exist in the project about those series)
Any thoughts, maybe I'm asking to much... I just made a request about the FMA Wiki, but I guess this is Admin obsession <- Being obsessed into working extremely long amounts of time on something you founded and have an interest in.
I ask to much of the tech team... 5+ Bugs, 5+ Namespace/SITENAME/Project namespace requests, future requests for custom extensions being built for the project to be installed, request for a subdomain redirect... I really don't like asking people to do a bunch of stuff. I prefer to do as much of it myself, which is probably why I group things together(It's be stated that it's easier to do multiple things at once than over time), don't ask for the Sysop tag on AnimeBotSys and do that myself (When I remember), and I even went to the lengths of building the patch which lets ¦ work in WikiTables as an alias to | so parserfunctions can be used more efficiently so that someone else wouldn't half to do it. Then again, I have a habit of making people read to much whenever I put up messages. *sigh* ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 3, 2007 @ 10:06 (UTC)
This seems quite a big project. Could you please create a product description of it for the techteam so they understand exactly what's needed from them in this? Angela talk 18:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I already have Project info on what it's about, but If you mean technical info on exactly what the setups (SITENAME, namespaces, title, etc...) and how it relates to other wiki then I'll make a page for that under the User:Dantman/GE Extended page which is already listing just the start of the extensions I'm building for the project. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 4, 2007 @ 19:48 (UTC)
Done, User:Dantman/GE Extended/Technical Overlay details the classes, individual wiki information and their technical setup, and also theoretical ideas for the future collected together. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 4, 2007 @ 22:48 (UTC)

Test skins (?) in kwish Edit

Hi Angela,

I saw that the magazines skins, as well as some other skins where installed in Kwish. I guess this was done since I agreed to help testing them... in any case, most of them don't really work. When I try to use them, the page is not displayed. One thing I did is CSS inspection and it found many errors in the skins. Please let me know if you want additional info or want me to do some specific tests, etc. --Oshani 18:08, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

These aren't properly in use on most wikis yet, but they will be in a couple of weeks. We'll send out more information when these are launched. Angela talk 18:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
BTW I really like the new smoke and slate skins although I do agree with some of Hu's comments below (especially the one about too many colors). I would be happy to have an RTL version in Kwish. If you need help with testing RTL versions or translating the skin specific texts to Hebrew, please let me know. --Oshani 12:58, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Angela, in reply to what you wrote to me here, I don't think the problem is with text alignment but with page direction. For example, I you will look at the Hebrew version of the search wikia home page with the Smoke skin, you will see that it looks OK because the content is inside a div dir="rtl" tag. There is a left alignment issue, however, with the skin elements (nav boxes, etc), but that is a different problem. --Oshani 09:05, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Smoke skin Edit

I've just noticed that there's work on a new skin, and I've taken a look at the screenshots. I have a few concerns, and I hope this is the right place to put them:

  • Will there still be sidebars and sitenotices? Those are very useful on Novelas and quite possibly on other sites as well.
  • There's too much wasted space (blank space) on the new skin.
  • The ad boxes now have color!? That'll likely be irritating.
  • Some things, such as Share, don't have to be so prominent--maybe at bottom of page...
  • Everything is too flowery--there's too many colors, which makes it rather distracting.
  • Will the RateThisArticle function work on Monobook?

...though on the other hand a more decorative site may attract more users.

--Yunzhong Hou 21:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

There will still be a sidebar, though it will be on the right instead of the left, leaving more room for the article content. I'm not sure if the old style sitenotice will show up in the new skin, but there will be a new messaging system as an alternative.
The idea of leaving more space is to make the page easier to read. I don't feel it's wasted if it helps people to find the content more easily and it does look better from a design perspective.
Do you mean the content of the ad or the white backgrond it's on? I think the background will be able to be changed in the same way it is now. For example, MemoryAlpha: has a different color background for its ads.
The reason we're making the share links more prominent is so people can use these to bring in new users to their wiki. Many wikis are really inactive because no one knows about them, so this is an important feature.
Some of the new features will require you to use the new skin, but if you want to continue using monobook without those, you can do.

More worriesEdit

I still have some worries, though, and often because I'm quite a perfectionist.

The sidebar's too big, and although the changes say that they've moved the article to "front and center", actually it's moved down and shifted left in comparison with Monobook. Now the sitenotice (with the logo, "this wiki", and "most popular" are too prominent, take up too much space, and show up on every page, shifting the real content downward. Whereas Monobook has 70% space available for actual text, Smoke only has 35% available, due in part to the immense sitenotice and immense sidebar. Much of this is because of the vast amount of wasted space - often due to the wording. Is "Edit / contribute" more effective than a tiny pencil&paper image that serves the same purpose? Are the headers "search", "expert tools", "this special page", "this article", "navigation", and "participation" really necessary, or can they be readily deduced from the content of each individual box?

The one good point is that now that the ad is limited to just a corner, there's a bit less wasted space along the right side of immense articles. But since the new sidebar is almost twice as large as the original sidebar, much of this benefit is cancelled out.

To all but the newest users, the new sitenotice is not very useful, with perhaps the link to Forum. Also, it may be a good idea to allow the sitenotice and sidebar to be customizable per individual user, ie. so that we can create our own links for it.

Parts of the sidebar and sitenotice ought to be hideable, while "navigation" and "participate" have redundant links. Meanwhile, the personal bar ("me, talk, prefs, watchlist, contribs, logout") is placed near the center of the page, and is thus too prominent.

When using the search engine, typing in "M", for example, generates a list of other links, and then when I press enter after typing in the rest of the phrase, the rest of the phrase disappears! Maybe make it so that the dropdown list has to be selectable. The beta search engine doesn't work well and keeps saying "Sorry! An error occured during your search. Please check your query." It doesn't even allow users to start new pages after searching for them.

Sorry, but the yellow is a bit irritating to the eye. I think I once learned that yellow is the MOST irritating color, while the cool colors (green, blue, violet) are calming colors. This goes with article section headers as well.

PS#1. The "printable version" link is too major for who would be using it (not researchers, after all). PS#2. I like the bar at the very, very bottom--it's concise.

--Yunzhong Hou 15:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

OH, and another issue. In the event that text in the article spills over, such as when an image is uploaded, or when a table gets very large, the article expands, covering up almost all of the sidebar except for possibly the search engine. --Yunzhong Hou 15:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing your concerns. We are making more changes before we roll this out to all wikis and the new skin will remain optional, so anyone can log in and change it if they prefer monobook or one of the older skins.
The sidebar boxes will be movable, so you'll be able to put the part most important to you at the top simply by dragging it up there!
The skin was designed especially with visitors in mind, which is why there is a lot of explanatory text like edit/contribute rather than icons which regular users might understand but a newcomer might not.
We're later going to allow users to add widgets to the skin which display information they persojnally find useful - like featured articles or a list of who is online or whatever. Whilst the current options are great for visitors, the widgets will be far more focused on editors and allow them a lot of customization on what they see on each page.
We're also trialing a forum and you're welcome to add your feedback there too.

Geomag wiki upgra de request Edit

Angela, thanks to you and Jimbo for setting up Wikia: I've never setup a wiki before, and I'm enjoying having a place to funnel my Geomag enthusiasm.

I'd like to get the mediawiki instance upgraded from 1.9.3 to 1.10a - whom do I lobby to get this to happen? I was surprised when searching around to find that the perl wikia (which is rather inactive) has been upgraded.

best regards, --Karl Horton 17:05, 4 May 2007 (UTC) --Karl Horton 17:05, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Great, thanks - our wiki is very image-dependent, so being able to pull in directly from flckr will be a boon.

Signature Issues... Edit

Is it possible to change my signature on the Central Wikia? As in, my sig is set to ~~~ = Max2 Talk My Wiki. so It is easier to use on other Wikis, and I can't use it here. Can you help? User:Max2

You should be able to put something like this into your monobook.js:
   mwCustomEditButtons[mwCustomEditButtons.length] = {
     "imageFile": "http://community.wikia.com/skins/common/images/button_sig.png",
     "speedTip": "central signature",
     "tagOpen": "--[[User:Max2|Max2]] ([[User_talk:Max2|talk]])",

ComputerRPG issues Edit

For some reason, it is listing 48 wanted pages, but for a number of them, trying to find out what links there returns 0 results. Is there a bug in the counting, or is there a bug in the tracking of links?

Also, c:ComputerRPG is just linking to '''http://computerrpg''', which on Opera and Firefox gets interpreted as http://computerrpg.com, instead of http://computerrpg.(current domain). That probably needs a fix. -PanSola 08:57, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

There isn't a specific timeframe for this. If admins are needed, then staff can create those. We need to wait for these problems to be resolved and see if there is anyone trustworthy that the entire community supports to be a bureaucrat there. Right now, many users are editing maliciously with duplicate accounts, so it is not a good time to assign new access levels to anyone. Angela talk 19:46, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Removal of TMNTPedia Admin Edit

on TMNTPedia we have an admin who has declared himself inactive and not made any edits or contributions in a couple of months, I would like to have his sysop rights removed so as to protect from possible issues in the future. Squishy Vic is the user in question.

Thank you, N.Y.N.E.Comlink 10:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok. Angela talk 16:01, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, what "issues" might result in the future from having an inactive admin retain sysop rights? Just wondering :) --Yunzhong Hou 22:25, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

One problem is they come back two years later and have no understanding of the wiki's current policies and community and delete stuff the community is happy to have. Small wikis can change direction very quickly, which is one reason to keep only active admins. However, usually there's no problem, so unless someone requests it, admins aren't often removed. Angela talk 01:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
T_T You mean I actually could have requested the De-Admining of Alyssachanpc from The Gaiapedia who said the site was affiliated with a site which appears now to be an inactive anti-pokemon site and named the unregistered fake foundation the wiki was affiliated with relatively the same name of a registered Foundation, and of course none of the community actually considers to be a proper admin for the current wiki. T_T I thought a request like removing that would be declined. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 7, 2007 @ 01:24 (UTC)

Discrepancies Edit

I--just--saw--a graphical google-ad about Microsoft on the runescape wiki.

Then there's also the "tip of the day" at the bottom of the sidebar in some wikis.

Sometimes wikia spotlight showed up above the google ads.

Are we still trying to get the bottom box of the wikis fixed? It's constantly fluctuating, sometimes with 2-4 columns, sometimes without a central teal dot (and why is there a dot anyway, there's no list) and sometimes either below or to the right of the sidebar.

Different wikis have different abilities, it seems. Abilities that don't seem to be explained by Mediawiki messages.

Hmm, I just wonder what's going on... --Yunzhong Hou 22:35, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Runescape has graphic ads so that gold-selling google text ads don't appear. The tip of a day is a new feature we're trying that can give users useful information about editing the wiki. The spotlight does move since we're testing out how much more effective it is when it's at the top. I'm not sure what you mean by a bottom box. Some wikis have been upgraded to 1.10 which means they have new features. All wikis should be on this within the next couple of weeks. See inside.wikia.com for more news about upcoming changes, like the new skin. Angela talk 01:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Name and Title changes Edit

Hi Angela, could you please change the Project name from "Gundam Wiki" to "The Gundam Wiki"? Also, I would like to change the title of the project to "The Gundam Wiki" as well.

Ok, thanks. SPQRobin 08:11, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

New preview option Edit

The new preview option is interesting, but maybe it shouldn't work with a vanilla background, as it'll confuse certain users. Maybe try a checkered grey-white background like the ones that certain graphics softwares use to signify that part of an image is transparent?

Also, there's a glitch: if you don't preview before saving, it doesn't save! Or, it only saves whatever you have when you last previewed it. This can be an un-welcome turn for experienced users who often make changes quickly without previewing (and who generally don't make too many errors either). --Yunzhong Hou15:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I beleve the glitch is that the Save Changes button dosen't work correctly. You need to hit the save link in the upper right. I've lost small edits because of that. And lost major stuff with the fact that things no longer stick in my back history, so when I click something by accident, I lose eveything I didn't preview or copy to the clipboard. I'd say WikiWYG should be combined with LifeSaver. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 8, 2007 @ 18:51 (UTC)
There have been a few bugs with this, but I think they're mostly sorted now. Don't forget about the new forum which can be used for reporting problems like this. Angela talk 05:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Edit

Aside from the previously mentioned problems with the beta searcher, the logo is also very irritating for any sites with a colored background as MediaWiki:Monobook.css default. Can we replace it with a transparent image? (Why do we need an image anyway?) --Yunzhong Hou 16:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Which logo do you mean? Angela talk

The yellow one that says prominently that it's the beta searcher.

Could you please contact user Kamil Kozłowski in order to check if he's all right? He's the founder ol lodz.wikia, but he seems to abandon the project (before it really started). MediaWiki Upgrades?Edit

Hi, Angela. I notice that MediaWiki upgrades have been going up across the board. Or rather, I would not have noticed them unless I noticed the in-wiki search and Firefox search plugin not working, as well as being unable to edit the front page of my wiki without being logged out in the process in receiving a, "this page has been protected, blah blah blah" message. Are we going to be seeing stability any time soon?

Which wiki do you mean? It's up to the admins on each wiki whether they want to protect or semi-protect their own main page, so this isn't a bug, but something the community there has chosen to do. Can you tell me more about the Firefox plugin problem? Have you also found this on other wikis? Angela talk

RuneScape Wiki forums Edit

Is it possible to have the Forums: namespace on the RuneScape Wiki semiprotected, so only users with accounts 4+ days or older can edit, make a topic, etc? I don't want this done right now, but it's something we're curious about and are discussing. Oddlyoko 20:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

It's not really possible since that would mean protecting uncreated pages when you don't know what new users are going to call those pages. An alternative solution is to not let new users find the forums too easily. For example, you could put it in the welcome message you give someone once they've made a few edits so good users know about it, and remove it from the sidebar so that not everyone knows about it. Angela talk
Hmm, I don't know if we can really do that considering so many people know of it already. I tried cutting down on the number of links, but there are complaints about having to make 1 extra click - yes, it's silly. A fellow admin on the wiki posted on the Inside wikia forums asking if we could get the beta forums early, and I do think it would be an ideal solution to our problems. Would that be possible? ComputerRPG, stuff Edit

Greetings Angela,

I've been watching w:c:ComputerRPG, and just happened to miss User:A townplayer by a few hours (he says he's gonna be off the wiki for a period of time), so I'm probalby not be able to discuss things with him.

Anyways, by the way User:A townplayer started to add content (the first person to add any content), and if we continue in the direction he started, ComputerRPG will simply be a "scratchpad wikia with a theme (computer RPG games)". I was wondering if that is alright with wikia, or if its nature would overlap with scratchpad too much that such kind of use for a wiki should be just folded under c:scratchpad.

And if it is alright to run ComputerRPG as just a themed scratchpad, I envision it to actually operate under the "pseudo-namespace" structure that the scratchpad used to be under. That is to say, a link such as c:ComputerRPG:Maps should NOT be a proper article (unless there is a game named "Maps"), and for maps of the game "Tales Of Pirates", the link should be at c:ComputerRPG:Tales Of Pirates:Maps. c:ComputerRPG:Maps would be a disambig page to all the map articles of each game on ComputerRPG (instead of an article that contains maps for however many games that ComputerRPG deals with).

This, in turn, makes wikifing things very very tedious (especially for games with very long names). Thus I was wondering if it'd be possible to modify the way links work so that if I'm at the Foo:Bar article (anything with a colon in the article name), and use the wikicode [[Bar2]], the resulting link actually goes to Foo:Bar2 (instead of Bar2. Additionally, if I'm at article Foo, and use the wikicode [[Bar]], the resulting link goes to Foo:Bar (instead of Bar). Linking to the main namespace can be forced, say, by the syntax [[:Foo]], which would link to the article Foo.

Finally, again, if it is alright to have ComputerRPG run as a themed scratchpad, would it be possible to request scratchpads with other themes? -Afker 23:17, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I think it could actually be both - a wiki about RPGs and also a wiki that allows people to build WalledGardens within that. Does that sound ok to you? Angela talk
Hmm, the WalledGardens link goes to a non-existing page... Anyways, there's no "ok or not ok" with me, I'm just trying to sort out the identity issues between various game-related wikias, and to figure out where and how I would be contributing some game-related content. -Afker 23:38, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I've fixed the link. I forgot which wiki described that. Basically, a walled garden is a section of a wiki that is a section by itself and one that doesn't really interact with the rest of the site. Angela talk 01:11, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, smack me if I turn out to be just splitting the fine hairs of semantics. After reading that link, and the discussion behind it, the feeling I get about a WalledGarden, is something that the mini wikis are highly parallel to, but with subtle differences and blurry lines (or it's possible that you consider the two terms interchangable and I'm just splitting hairs). Here is my understanding, using mostly my own words:
  • WalledGarden would seem like what certain sections of the AliceSoftWiki and the Final Fantasy Wiki resembles. Certain collections of pages are very inter-connected, with occasional links to the rest of the wiki. WalledGardens are like introvert neighbors in a community.
  • Mini wikis are like what is found on c:Scratchpad and anime. Individual mini-wikis are more independent than individual WalledGardens. Links that go out from a mini-wiki tend to be definitional in nature, and often could have easily linked to wikipedia or wiktionary instead of somewhere in the main wiki. Individual mini wikis are by nature independent communities (though they may be related, and the collection of independent communities may be considered from a meta point of view as one larger community, but with each mini wiki as a distinct member of that larger community).
Under this interpretation (which may simply be my over-analysis), ComputerRPG is currently actually heading towards a Mini wikis direction, as opposed to a WalledGardens direction. Do you envision the WalledGarden direction to be more conducive with community growth on wikia? -Afker 02:58, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
In the short term, I think it's a good way to get people to the site. Longer term, the community would be stronger if people actually work together on the topic rather than having their "own" sub-wikis within that. Angela talk 01:24, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Project Namespace change and new custom namespace for MMKB Edit

The Namespace and SITENAME Discussion on the MMKB has given 3 positive votes on both the changes to the namespaces. The Project namespace which is currently The Mega Man Knowledge-base which understandably is so long and poorly named that no one has ever bothered to use it has been decided to be changed to MMKB as it is the best Project namespace to reflect the Wiki's name and act functional. Additionally, many articles have started a trend of naming things with Fanstuff: as if a namespace was wanted. Votes have also been cast which state that the community would like that custom namespace to be made so they would like those changes. Though, currently there are 2 articles which start with MMKB: and a number more which start with Fanstuff:, I would like AnimeBot and DantmanAWB(For the sake of not requesting something later that could be requested now) to have the Bot flag added to them so that I can use the Pywikipedia bot framework and the remnants of an old script of mine to move all those pages out from titles which would cause them to become lost pages when the namespaces are changed. Thanks for any help. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 11, 2007 @ 23:09 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I also messaged the active users there so that should prevent anyone moving pages back to spots which would make them lost. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 13, 2007 @ 07:11 (UTC)

Marpedia Edit

Angela, I've noticed something a little disconcerning at the Marpedia. The founder Ichigo nicely Sysoped a user who came to the wiki and asked for admin status to help the wiki out. That user was Jakerl. As a test he blocked the Founder with a 2 week block, then unblocked him the next day. Some days later he blocked him again with an infinite then unblocked him soon after. And a few days ago he blocked the founder with an infinite and hasn't unblocked him since. The improvements to the wiki's interface aren't very good or helpful (Actually, they served to make it hard for me to navigate when I first got to the wiki), and he also Sysoped a completely random user who came to the wiki just to put a few letters into a userpage for himself. I gave a normal greeting to the founder of the wiki, and also gave a small welcome to Jakerl also noting that it would be polite for him to unblock Ichigo so he can help improve the wiki. It would be a good idea to wait for what his response is first as a bit of a test on if his character is one trying to improve the wiki and just making mistakes, or that of a general negative admin. If he does not unblock Ichigo when he get's around next it may be a good idea to use staff powers to unblock Ichigo and de-admin Jakerl and also The cool guy who Jakerl randomly admined. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 12, 2007 @ 00:49 (UTC)

They're all the same person. I left the original founder as admin, not bureaucrat, and removed his two admin sockpuppets, but the wiki needs watching to make sure no more of this silliness happens. Angela talk 05:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, It's already in my WikiSwitch tab and it's an anime related wiki anyways so I'll watch over the RC there to check for any silliness or anyone chance of someone wanting to help get rid of the current silliness left there. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 13, 2007 @ 07:11 (UTC)

Cloak Edit

Sorry to half to ask you something else, if I could I'd ask someone else so that I wouldn't be asking to much of you. But I suppose I can't request this from anyone else. I recently setup a better set of IRC names for myself. Including Registering my Away state so that I don't half to re-identify each time I come back. I also Registered an alternative so that I could request a cloak. I'm not that fussy about hostname hiding, but I do like the idea of having dantman@wikia/Dantman as my ADDR as a nice way of verifying to other users that I am Dantman here on Wikia, and also for a bit of community awareness that I am located here primarily.

My master Registered username is Dantman and my alternative name as required by the cloak is DanielFriesen. If you perform a /NickServ INFO Dantman you'll see Dantman listed as master, DanielFriesen listed as the second (My Alternative), and alternative namestates (Such as |Away) further listed. Sorry that I had to ask this also of you, but feel free to take your time with my requests. If you want a list of which is more important than which here's one:
  • Bots on MMKB
  • Namespace Request on MMKB (Cause that can't work out without the pagemoves anyways)
  • IRC Cloak
  • Marpedia stuff (Because waiting for a response is a character test and a good determiner for response anyways) ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 12, 2007 @ 08:33 (UTC)
There are no staff on freenode right now, but I'll get you a cloak as soon as I see someone there. Angela talk 05:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that's fine. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 13, 2007 @ 07:11 (UTC)

help needed on the ksw wiki Edit

On the RuneScape wiki, we have a group of vandals (one IP) under the name of Buck nell, Buck nell 2, etc. On my user page on the RS wiki, I mention that I am also found on the Kuk Sool Won wiki. This vandal migrated to that wiki. I reverted his edits there, but one of our two admins is on vacation, and the other has not been active lately. I did once ask for adminship there, but since I did not have 500+ edits, and created 15+ articles, and have 10+ awards, Etc. I was refused. I also found this slightly unfair, because I had 3 to 5 yes votes, and only 2 no votes, but the guy in charge, Jimwitz, just said no, and that was the end of it. I am not here to complain about this, and I am sorry that I kind of got off topic, but on the Kuk Sool Won wiki, the user Buck nell 3 needs to be banned. Megalodon99 01:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me about this. I'll look into the vandal problem on Kuk Sool Won. Is the problem being dealt with ok on runescape? Angela talk 05:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Page deletion on inactive Animanga wiki Edit

I was scanning the recent changes of the wiki in my WikiSwitch recently, and I ran into a bit of pagespam on the Manga Wiki. It's not something that a user can revert, and made me realize the annoyance of not being able to at least delete spam off the inactive Animanga related wiki. The Manga Wiki was one that the WGEP was planning to adopt in the future, but not directly now (noone seams to heavy on moving into phase 2 yet). But it would be nice to at least remove vandalism off inactive English Animanga wiki. I don't really need anything other than Sysop as I just want to be able to keep these clean for whenever either the WGEP or some other user comes and decides to Adopt them. The English Animanga wiki I notice are inactive (and I'm not admin on) I've found are: Manga, Digimon, Zatchbell, Sailormoon, Battle B-Daman, and CCS. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 13, 2007 @ 15:08 (UTC)

SWGames AdminEdit

Hello, I am an admin on SWGames. I recently noticed that the actual founder of the wiki has been inactive, and by inactive I mean they haven't made a single contribution since the wiki was started four months ago. I hate to do this, but I was wondering if you could desysop them? Any help in this would be much appreciated. :) Supergeeky1 (The Cantina) (My Edits) 22:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I tried emailing Elelohesterling to see if he was intending to come back but the email bounced, so I'd assume he's definitely not. If he ever does, he's welcome to ask one of the bureaucrats there to re-admin him. Angela talk 23:11, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for creating it. Is it ok to copy articles from wikipedia? And if so, is it better to copy and paste, or import/export. Thanks, -Pinky

Cinema e Cultura WikiEdit

Hi Angela, you sent to me a mensagen about this wiki that I'm adopting now. I'm new on wikia and I've two questions: 1st May I change the name to Cinema or pt-br.cinema? 2nd Where can I see the msg that you sent to me? Sorry for my english. My best wishes to you. Artfikan 02:31, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

You can see it here. I can ask for the URL to be changed to pt-br.cinema if you like, though it might take a while for that to happen. Angela talk 02:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I would like to change the name, don't worry about the time. I'll need time to set the things up. Thank you. Artfikan 02:46, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Hey Angela, I made a logo for cinema wikia. As soon as you have some free time, could you please pass me the adminship? Thank you. Artfikan 01:16, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Beekeeping wiki Edit

Dear Angela, I would like to ask you to do something for me that could make my life easier while editing on Wikia. I discovered Wikia a few days ago after I searched the internet hoping that I would find a wiki about beekeeping. I found only one with a few pages, but I also found Wikia which offers hosting for wikis. First I registered at Wikia with the username Adela (because I thought that I would enjoy better a username different from the username from Wikipedia), but I started to miss my old username. So, I am respectfully asking you to change my username into User:Emily, if that would be possible. I would also like to start the wiki about beekeeping in romanian and in this case I still have an open request (Apicultura) and romanian beekeepers that are waiting for an answer from me. I wish you a nice day! Greetings, --Adela 16:18, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

I think that name has already been taken. Did sannse talk to you about this already? Angela talk 01:24, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Mediawiki Edit

For some reason, the mediawiki functionality is broken on Quest.wikia.

  • MediaWiki:Monobook.css page doesn't work
  • User:X/monobook.css doesn't work either
  • Slate and Smoke look just the same as Monobook
  • ...and there's probably more.

Could you fix this please? Thanks! --Yunzhong Hou 16:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

--Problem fixed --Yunzhong Hou 16:53, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki Edit

Please add http://es.starwars.wikia.com/wiki/$1 and http://historiasw.wikia.com/wiki/$1 to the Interwiki_map, it's for linking on articles, thank you very much. --Jaiden 20:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

We're not adding new Wikia sites to the interwiki map since they can already be linked to using [[w:c:wikiname]]. eg: w:c:es:starwars. Angela talk 22:51, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I expect it's a problem with caching. Does it clear if you add ?action=purge to the end of the URL? Angela talk 22:52, 19 May 2007 (UTC)q

Admin at Vegetarian dream wikia Edit

hello i am a user on the almost inactive vegetarian wikia[6],and nothing seems to be happening on it, long story short i realy want to help this wikia out so i would like to be granted an admin status thanks Jimbo the cheese 01:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be best if you edited there a bit longer since there's no urgent need for admins. Please don't create pages with inappropriate names like the one I just deleted. The userlist includes users for all of Wikia, not just the ones from the vegetarian wiki. Creating such pages just makes them show up in searches and also gives attention to the trolls who make such usernames. If you need any help there dealing with problem users like this, please let me know or ask for help on the forums. Angela talk 22:59, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I can work on it a little more i have a few more recipies that i could put there, but pleese consider making me an admin there soon okay? thanks Jimbo the cheese 23:39, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Heroes Wikia Edit

Angela, This Saturday the Sci-Fi channel is running an all day marathon of every Heroes episode so far. Due to the admittedly still relatively small number of contributions that have been made to the Heroes Wiki so far this would be a great opportunity to recruit some new contributors. So I am asking you what the best way to advertise the marathon and website is just until Sunday morning. I thought about nominating it on the wikia messages or wikia spotlight but thought that might take to long. A chance you can speed up the process? thanks! Please respond on my user talk page. Jdray 06:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

This is in the spotlight now. I hope it brings you some new users. Angela talk 22:59, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Film Wikia issues Edit

Angela, please go to the Film Wikia immediately. I suspect the last few edits by an anon user has added some coding that is causing my Internet Explorer browser from viewing and editing the pages, including blocking me from rolling back the articles. - Nhprman 15:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean 24.210.255.95? Nothing suspicious there. You can't roll them back on those pages because they are the only editor, maybe? --Splarka (talk) 08:27, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

IRC Edit

Hopefully it doesn't end up like #Gaiapedia (Though I hope it can turn up at some point). But, I setup a channel for the WGEP. Since there are currently 5 wiki involved in the project it should have at least a better chance in picking up than The Gaiapedia's channel (Mailing lists would probably work for the WGEP well to, but for technical reasons, I won't be setting that up till the Graphical Entertainment Wiki is setup). The Channel is #GraphicalEntertainment. ChanServ has it fully registered and configured.

On another note... While all channels work with the normal http://irc.wikia.com, some wiki like Uncyclopedia have a special portal page like http://irc.wikia.com/uncyclopedia. If this is setup, is it publicly configurable? ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 18, 2007 @ 00:56 (UTC)</del></small>Retracted ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 19, 2007 @ 15:27 (UTC)

Neopets Guild Wikia Edit

Angela -
Hi! Could the site name of the NeoPets Guild Wikia be changed to neopets.wikia.com? After a short discussion revisiting this, that seems like it would make sense. I'll post a site notice to let people know this change may be coming.
- RJ 01:30, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

That would become the project namespace as well, which could be very weird. If you just want the title (as appears in the browser title bar, and on search engine headers) you can just change w:c:neopets:MediaWiki:Pagetitle (and remove {{SITENAME}} and replace it with whatever you want). --Splarka (talk) 05:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
I've listed the wiki to be moved to that URL. Angela talk 19:13, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey there! I've heard you guys are trying to get Uncycopedia cloaks for IRC, and that's awesome! I talked to sannse and she said I could get a cloak right now if I followed the simple instructions. So I've reached the point in the instructions where it tells me to bug you. Um, sorry for bugging you, but can I have one of those nifty Wikia cloaks?--Bradaphraser 22:11, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Copyvio on Scratchpad, related to a new wikia request Edit

Greetings Angela,

Jorg of the Memory Alpha, at my request, helped me tracked down several articles on scratchpad that are copyright violations. Those are the 4 articles in all caps in w:c:scratchpad:Category:Potential_copyright_violations. Additionally, all of User:Compaq's contributions on scratchpad are suspected of also being copyright violations of either the "Star Trek The Next Generation Technical Manual" or the "Star Fleet Technical Manual". The number of articles were too numerous so I didn't ask Jorg to confirm the copyvio of all of them.

w:c:Scratchpad:TECHNICAL_MANUAL is a copy (with some modifications) of the table of contents of the book "Star Fleet Technical Manual". I didn't tag that page because even though I felt it was clearly not being copied for fair use, the copying of the TOC of a book might not be a copyright violation (I'm not an expert on the subject, so don't want to make too much assumptions).

The contributions of this user are relevant in his request for a new wikia on the same subject matter as the articles he made on scratchpad. I think it might benefit the human race in general (on a very minute level) if someone experienced with explaining copyright issues can make User:Compaq more informed and educated on the issue, whether his requests goes through or not. I personally hope his request won't go through, and hope he gets a clear understanding of why his request was rejected (copyvio concerns) as opposed to thinking there's a conspiracy against him or that Wikia is against "innovative scientific research" (he is fairly well-intentioned and serious about this "research", even emailing Steven Hawkins and NASA for input).

And if his request does get approval, then it is especially important for him as the founder to understand what is allowed content and where the line between fair use (or citing prior "research") and copyright violations is (a line which he has already crossed on scratchpad). -Afker 17:46, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Addendum: an anon is reverting my edits, removing the copyvio tag and restoring the offending content to the article. I'm not going to go into a revert war, so please just look at my most recent 4 contributions on scratchpad. -Afker 18:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing it out. I'll go and look now. Angela talk 19:19, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Slate skin Edit

Hi Angela! I want to ask you if that would be possible to change the skin of the romanian beekeeping wiki from slate to monobook here. The reason is that with this skin you cannot see the interwiki links and the link for returning to monobook skin is not functioning. I have some people interested in editing this wiki but they are not very familliar with wikis and it would be great to have a simple skin for this wiki. I know that the skin can be changed from the preferences, but if the simple skin appears first, it will be better for everyone. Thank you! --Adela 06:48, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

The interlanguage links problem has been fixed and these now appear at the end of the right sidebar by default. You can drag that box up the page to make the links more prominent. In the next release, we'll find a way for admins to set the default position of these boxes for their whole wiki. What happens when you use the return to monobook link? Let me know and I'll get that fixed. Until then, you should be able to switch back at Special:Preferences. Angela talk 18:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Angela for fixing the interlanguage problem and other problems that I used to have on Apicutura Wiki. That link to Return to monobook skin was above the advertisements box. It doesn't appear any more and it is better now. That link was only using space and was not functional. Slate skin is actually pretty nice for a beekeeping wiki, because the colours are appropriate. Have a nice day, --Adela 19:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Craig Ferguson Wiki Edit

Hey Angela, I've put the Craig Ferguson Wiki on Wikia news box suggestions, and wanted to know, how is the news box changed? What I mean is, do people vote on it? Brain40 16:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

There aren't that many suggestions at the moment, so it's not something that's voted on. Unless there's a special wikia message there (like this week with the voting link), the wikis are placed in there every few days, so all of the suggestions will eventually be listed in there. Angela talk 18:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikimania scholarship Edit

Hi Angela. Sorry to bother you on your talk page but I've sent several e-mails to the community@wikia.com address without a response. I was lucky enough to be awarded the scholarship to attend Wikimania in Taiwan in August. I've registered myself and I'd like to know how to go about claiming it back. Also, I emailed Marnie Bratton about the flights, but have also received no response. I'm obviously very eager to get my travel details sorted out ASAP, so I can make plans for the rest of my summer. Can you let me know about this please? Bobo12345 06:45, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Marnie is in hospital, so the arrangements for Wikimania are in a bit of a mess right now. I'll email you about this today. Angela talk 13:38, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll see if someone can do this, but there have been problems with that namespace before on other wikis so it might take a while. Angela talk 13:38, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
