Closing wiki Edit

allright. I will move all of my religous content into the religion area if you tell me how to move it.Tyluthan 22:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

I've had to revert a couple javascript vandalisms done by this IP so far. Once on theDemocracy wiki, and again on the Email wiki. And I think Mindspillage had to revert the same thing earlier before I could figure out how to get around it. The javascript creates a message box claiming that Democracy is Gay. Having caught it on a second wiki, I'm thinking it might be worth checking on where else the IP has struck.--Kirk 00:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for reporting this. The only wiki he still had unreverted edits on was dragonball. Angela (talk) 05:58, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

OSSwiki Namespaces Edit

Hi, could you please change the project namespace of both c:de.oss and c:oss to OSSwiki for a consistent look. The current namespace for c:de.oss (Free and Open Source Software Wiki) is a little too long. -- Muffin 09:56, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Addition: Having an extra Glossary(en) / Glossar(de) namespace for explaining technical terms like FTP might also be useful. -- Muffin 15:04, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll reply at w:c:de.oss:Benutzer Diskussion:Muffin. Angela (talk) 05:58, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

News boxEdit

Hey. I've translated MediaWiki:News box into Polish, but the Polish version it's viewable only here and on pages where default langauge is not Polish. On all wikis in Polish newsbox is still in English. Do you know what's wrong? Szoferka 03:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I'll have a look later today. Last time this happened it was just a caching issue and it started working by itself after a few hours, so maybe that'll happen again. Angela (talk) 03:09, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
It's not cache, I've transalted it a 12 day ago and still nothing. Szoferka 03:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I've reopened bug:161. Angela (talk) 02:54, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Bureaucrat at Stargate WikiaEdit

Hi Angela! I'm an admin at the Stargate Wikia and wants to make Marco Polo an admin as well. He has earned it, but somehow I don't have the priviligies to make him an admin. Since the "leader" of Stargate Wikia is nowhere to be seen, I wonder if you could make me a bureaucrat so that I can make Marco Polo an admin? Thanks in advance for anything you can help me out with. All blessings! Peter R 09:58, 27 June 2006 (UTC) (Answer at my Stargate talk page)

Hey Angela, thanks for helping out by setting Peter R's status to beaurocrat. However, Peter said he would be on vacation and I don't think he'll be around for a while. So can you sysop me directly? —Marco Polo 20:13, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Sure. I'll do that now. Angela (talk) 01:24, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Shorthand subdomain Edit

How can I create a shorthand subdomain for like I know it can be done, because w:c:ff redirects to w:c:frequentflier.

ff only redirects because the wiki was originally at ff but later moved to frequentflier (ff should actually have been reserved for a wiki in Fula). We usually try to avoid using language codes as the subdomain since we're saving those to be translations for Community Central. For example, the Polish Wikia base is It's possible we'll want the Sango version at one day. Also, redirects are only added when necessary (like when a wiki has moved) and not just to make a shorter URL since it can be confusing both for readers and search engines to have multiple locations for the wiki. Angela (talk) 01:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Image UploadingEdit

Hello Blipo. This is the Central Wikia, so I don't think images like Image:Gather.png are relevant here. Did you mean to upload these to a different wiki? Perhaps you could find where you're meant to be from the List of Wikia. Let me know if you need any help. Angela (talk) 05:10, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Well damn. I don't know what I'm doing here! My friends said, "make a wiki for us!" So I did. I have no idea what I'm doing; I found an image upload function and uploaded my images. Could you explain what I did wrong, and what I should do? I made a wiki page on the Scratchpad, [1].

How do you use <charinsert>...</charinsert> in Wikia? Edit

I am customizing my wiki and seem to have hit a wall when I try to add the add character box on the bottom of Wikipedia's edit page to mine by copying MediaWiki:Edittools from Wikipedia to my wiki. The edit box uses scriptlets embedded using a <charinsert> tag. Wikia doesn't recognise it and some research tells me that it is not standard MediaWiki. Is there a way to manually code insert scriptlets, or is it possible to install the extension to Wikia?

This requires an extension. I have requested it be installed at bug:176. Angela (talk) 02:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Active Talk Pages Edit

Hi Angela,

I was wondering if it is possible to have such a thing as a special page for Active Talk Pages? It will help new contributors to identify/find articles that are currently being discussed on our Wiki. Thanks Mostly Zen 11:44, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

That isn't possible, but you can filter recent changes by namespace in order to see recently changed talk pages. (example.) Angela (talk) 06:30, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

JaBoJa Edit

I'm one of admins of Nonsensopedia, but I do not need admin rights. Could you remove them from my account? JaBoJa 12:46, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

bug:326#c4 Edit

Hello Angela. Could you please take a look at bug:326#c4. I had to reopen the bug, because not the entire problem was solved. Thanks, DCLXVI 21:13, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware this is still a problem. Jason's on vacation at the moment, but I'll make sure he knows about it when he's back. Angela (talk) 06:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. DCLXVI 12:38, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

One More Time Edit

Yet again, Nihilusdude is my brother, Darth Fury is Ewoksfist's brother. Another thing, I made the Nihilusdude account as a sockpuppet account, then gave it to my brother, then he voted. He said he'd give it to me as a bot after the election, if he figures out how. He also didn't know I made an account on SW Fanon. I'm still proposing make all nominees admins :) MaulYoda

Since the page move vandalism has been stopped, I don't think there's any urgent need for admins there. I suggest you focus on the content rather than adminship, which does not imply any more "power" on the wiki. It's just a useful thing sometimes in clearing up problems, not something to fight for. Angela (talk) 06:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Well that would be a lot better. The purpose of that message was to clear things up about the voting. And I'm not power hungry. MaulYoda

New Management Edit

It is possible for someone to take over someone else's wiki? If so, then I'd like to take over Star Wars Fanon Wiki. I have a few people to support me and I have a few good reasons.

  1. As the manager, I'd be a sysop, meaning I could stop vandalism as soon as it happened without having to first go to the Wikia Staff.
  2. I improved the main page on Star Wars Fanon, yep, I did all that work, and I think I could improve some other things that only admins can.
  3. I could get a cabinet together of users who I am friendly with on that wiki and I know I can trust.
  4. I will be able to recruit new members better by assuring them their articles will be safer from vandalism.
  5. I'm a trusted member of the community and my brother is giving me his account, Nihilusdude, to use as a bot after the election.

If you doubt anything I've said, ask around and see what people think of me on Star Wars Fanon. MaulYoda 23:36, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

All wikis are owned by the community, not by a particular user, so there's no such thing as "taking over" a wiki. Any user can revert vandalism and improve the home page. You don't need adminship for this and I'm concerned that adminship seems to be your primary focus as opposed to simply editing and promoting the wiki. Angela (talk) 06:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I gave up trying to be new leader of the wiki a while ago. But like you said, you can't "take over" a wiki. I've put a request on Wookieepedia for users to join SW Fanon. MaulYoda

Uploading a font Edit

I was working on the D'ni Wiki and one of the important aspects of it is a language, with characters I found in a font. I want to upload it onto the wiki so that the readers can download the font and see the "language". This goes against most of my wikisense, because it is contrary to the idea of a free source of information, because all users who want to see the glyphs must download and install this font. However, the alternative is to have hundreds of images of each excerpt or try to piece together many "letter-blocks" into a sentence, with ugly gaps in between. In short: I want to upload a font. However, when I tried to, it said: ".ttf" is not a recommended image file format. This confirms that without special provision, the only extensions allowed are: 'png', 'gif', 'jpg', 'jpeg', and 'ogg'. It also mentions php coding, so I know that only people with access to the database, like staff, can do the necessary adjustments. What do you think? —Marco Polo 12:50, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I've replied at D'ni. Angela (talk) 12:54, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, the site is very old and in at least GDFL, if not PD. But I guess it would just be best if I linked to the site instead of uploading it myself. Thanks! —Marco Polo 13:01, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Legal TermsEdit

Angela, I'm from SUWiki where you contacted me about chaging the license. THANK YOU THANK YOU, I really don't know what I'm doing, but I'm trying hard. However, I don't understand quite what I need to do. Lets say I want all text, ideas, images/files, to be freely distributable and modifiable. Is that adviseable? If that is ok, how would I write the license to be legally accurate? Do I just put in the words "Free Content" with a link to the freecontent definition site you gave me? Any help would be great, as I'm pretty clueless with legal terms. Chris Fullmer

Admin question for Halo Edit

Hi Angela! I'm just wondering how to change the logo for the Halo wikia? Do you have to be admin to do this? If so who is the admin? Thanks for your time. Esemono 15:42, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Upload image as wiki.png under sysop account. Edward Chernenkoo a 09:13, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

The House of FanonEdit

In the last two months Ive been here at this Wiki the election for administrators has not stopped. And yet we have a war, the Vandal War going on right behind us. We cant entrust simple users to take out vandals, what if they just want glory and fame. It could be them. Than the administrators, what if they don't like eachother or dont work together or if theyre power hungry vandals than what? We need a goverment not individual governors. The goverment is called the House of Fanon representide by two partys, the Typhillian Council and the Fanon Council. We meet their, take opinions from users and other stuff to make this community better.- Darth Vacatour

  • I disagree with Vacatour, we do need admins. Otherwise the wiki will just collapse from Vandal attacks. If the two "houses" disagree then we'll see and end to the SWF wiki. Admins should stay. — Jasca Ducato

Thats why users and members of the council will bring us together. Administrators disagree but find ways to work together, so can we.

  • You've basically just proven my point. Why bother changing just for one wiki. it should stay as it is. But its up to Angela and co. — Jasca Ducato

As you probably know, some users are trying to organize a government on SW Fanon Wiki to replace admins. Not that I speak for the whole Wiki but I'm just saying that if the House of Fanon is approved, when we finally get admins they'll be good for nothing, so says what the house is saying. Anyway, it's your descision, the house right now or admins later. Not trying to be rude or put pressure on you. MaulYoda

Apologizing for Prop 270Edit

I have had a change of heart. Proposition 270 is no longer in effect and administrators will stay. However The House of Fanon will stay and work as a sub goverment beneath the administrators. Hopefully we can also work with The Fanon Council. Sincerly apologizing, DV

I say get rid of the whole thing and keep the fanon council until we get admins, which is going to be a while. But it's your call. MaulYoda

When I'll blog about the Campaigns Wikia Edit

Hi Angela! I'll gladly blog about this place once I figure out what its character is going to be. I want to make sure there will be healthy discussion rather than violent deletion of opposing viewpoints.

Blogging about Campaigns Wikia Edit

Angela, thanks for the prompt welcome to the site.

I've now added a link to Campaigns Wikia to the top of the Start Page of the wiki, and put a new article about this effort on my blog. I'm very excited by what could come from this, and I plan to do whatever I can to make it work.

Rblumberg 16:51, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Why can't I post new articles. Edit

There are a couple of things I might want to do on New York, but discover I cannot post, only edit. Why? I've been around awhile, elsewhere in the wikiverse, and did login here a couple or three days ago.

So much of this is abandoned real estate.--Allamakee Democrat 04:03, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

You should be able to post on any Wikia. See Help:New page. Angela (talk)

eek. changed your education entry around a bit. Edit

Hello there!

I'm a wiki newbie.

I changed your initial education entry quite a bit. I didn't change what you wrote, I only changed where it is.

Don't know if this is ok?

That's fine. Thanks for helping! Angela (talk)

DMCA. Edit

Greets, I've suggested DMCA as a campaign in the forum in the first post. I thought it would be a good topic for folks to work on as it is international in impact and as bloggers and wikifolk we would be all likely to share some appreciation of what peer to peer and freedom of info can be about.? Cheers Lucychili 16:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Angela, Thanks for your help. I'm still curious to know if the Wikia forums are indeed "threaded." When I think of threaded, I think of the mail clients and news readers (Thunderbird, for example) that display email, listserve, USENET postings, etc with the subject headings indented to indicate the chronology, who's responding to whom, etc. --Artie 19:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

You can see them at Forum:Index - I'm not sure if you'd call that threaded in the same way as email though. Angela (talk)

Vandal Edit

Sorry to bother you, but the Star Wars Fanon Wiki is being vandalized, at the moment. The vandal has produced multiple accounts, and is assaulting this wiki. Please help us. 23:49, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Please help sw fanon. He keeps unbanning himself. Please I tried alone but i cant suceed. He destroyed my user page.- DV

Switch func broken Edit

I have a rather extensive system set up involving the {{switch:bla|bla|blah=bla|huh}} function on the D'ni Wiki, and it all seems to have come tumbling down when the function showed instead a Template:Switch:bla link, which obviously doesn't exist. Is this your or another staff member's doing, is this a php problem (?), or is this a side effect of moving to the {{#switch:}} function? (If it is the latter, hooray!) —Marco Polo 19:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

The syntax of parser functions has changed (actually it changed soon after they were introduced, although Wikia was stuck with that particular version for a long while). Se m:ParserFunctions (however, they are still be broken temporarily while the upgrade is finalized). --Splarka (talk) 22:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Featuring the Psychology WikiEdit

Hey Angela,

Sorry to hear about you leaving Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you are still happy working with the Wikia stuff, which you have been very useful and helpful with :) I just nominated the Psychology Wiki to be featured here: Featured wikia and was wondering how we get it to be featured? Do we need lots of our contributors to second the nomination?

I also asked Jim Wales to take a look at us and see what he thinks. I think he will like the idea as he always goes on about free knowledge and stuff like that.

Helping us to get featured in August, or something along those lines would be great :) We really need more contributors! I am on a massive marketing spree at present...

Mostly Zen 22:03, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd rather not influence the vote, but I'm sure it will get featured soon since it's a great wiki and growing quite fast. Angela (talk)

Help with cross wiki templates Edit

Hi Angela,

I'm trying to create a cross-wiki template for politics that can be used to navigate around the political wikiasphere. (hey, new term!) Can you help me format the link to Portal:Politics on Template:Politics so that it will work from inside other wikia? Chadlupkes 22:31, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Just using [[w: should work. Angela (talk)

Spam Filter Edit

Hi, there. As you may know, a vandal organization known as the ISV is attacking various wikis. They, as they state, are planning to attack each of the 1500 wikis, and that must be prevented. When they vandalize, a message is posted with various 'recruitment' information. I'd like to prevent this message from ever being distributed. If you could filter a few words/phrases for me, that would be great.

2: overthrow of the current Administration of the Wikimedia
3: VandalBots
4: We will continue to rebel against tyranny
5: tyrannical Administrators
6: We vandalize to bring about positive and pure change to the Wikimedia system.
8: Long live the International Society of Vandals (ISV)!
All of these words/phrases appear in the recruitment message, and I'd like to filter them. If you could do that, we would all appreciate it. Thank you. 00:41, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Just ignore the vandals and they'll go away. There's no point playing these games with them. You're only encouraging them. Angela (talk) 14:46, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Angela, can you make me administrator of the website (I am the founder of this website) ? Thank you !Clembou (Moved from [2] Szoferka 11:15, 12 July 2006 (UTC))

Vandals? Edit

Hey Angela. Just wanted to let you know, my blog vanished from the "list of participating bloggers." Could be an honest mistake, but you might want to be on the lookout for people vandalizing the page. I stuck it back there for now, and I'll keep an eye on it. Compaqdrew 20:27, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

It was this pair of edits which seems to have been the problem. It looks like a browser bug but might have been intentional. I'll re-add them --Splarka (talk) 22:11, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

You may have recently heard that a Vandal War has broken out across wikimedia. The English Wiki, Memory Alpha, and Wookiepedia, as well as SW Fanon which suffered most of the attacks, have been attacked. At SW Fannon we created a Proposition called Prop 3 which allows users to put like a block or shield over there articles and user pages, this would stop vandals from vandalizm. The only way anyone else but the author can edit the page is if he asks on the talk page. This could be a excellent start and we have large crowds voting especially in support. I beg youll allow the prop to go through. Im guessing putting up a protect block. - DV

Yeah hey, Prop 3 has been passed on SWFanon so we need you to make like a special template that will allow users to protect their own articles and user pages to make sure noone else touches them without permision. Okay, thanks from SW Fanon - DV

Hello Angela Im DV from SW Fanon, The 313 and Head Administrator of the Haven. Recently at SWFanon we created Prop 4 which 13 users have voted in support and 0 oppose for what? On Friday we want you to elect five admins if the prop is passed and it seems it will. The community is in great need ISV attacked my wiki today, wookiepedia was recently attacked as well as editthis and swfanon. ISV is out of control and we need to secure admins by friday. please SWWFanon is begging you. - DV

Angela at SWFanon this morning Prop 4 was passed with the votes of 14 support 0 oppose. In that case now swfanon is asking you by the order of our proposition to elect five administrators from to sysops election by tomorow at 3pm mountain time. Than the sysops election will end. Ok. Also i dont feel comfortable with sansees dont feed the trolls. Its making us weak against vandals! - DV

Please stop encouraging the vandals. These "vandal hunt" games are making the situation much worse and I'm fairly sure having admins involved is not going to help the situation. Angela (talk) 14:46, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Changing Content Policy Edit

Hello Angela, you were kind enough to stop by my wiki a few weeks back and comment on the lack of a content license. I left you a message here but never heard back from you. I'm not sure how to change it or what it requires. I tihnk I just want to be under the GNU license...that means everything on the site is fair game/public domain, right? Sorry I'm so clueless, but content licesnsing is totally new to me. So if you wouldn't mind stopping by and leaving me another note, that would be great! --Chris Fullmer 11:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Recommended Admin for Edit

User:Waldsen has been doing some great work on the English Language Campaigns site, and I would like to recommend that he be made an Admin for the Spanish language site. He and I have been building templates and css edits that he would now like to incorporate into the wiki that he will be working on from Chili. I don't quite know the procedure for this, but I thought I would make the recommendation. Chadlupkes 01:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Just in case you don't often check your talk page on other wikis Edit

Here is what I've written:

Note: the new wiki is indeed under a free license. Though I see your point in removing the reference to the wiki, my goal has always been to service the community and the server slowness here is what kept me from being able to promote this wiki as a legitimate source. My first and foremost goal has always been to get as much information on Korea as possible to those who need it, and removal of the reference damages that in my opinion. Mithridates. 02:17, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Note: it doesn't damage it much; I was just hoping that the main page there made it clear that the Korea Wiki is no longer even close to the definitive source of info for information on the country, nor updated by the person who originally applied for it (me). Mithridates 02:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I think there is still potential for a Korea wiki on Wikia. I've replied about the copyright on that wiki. Angela (talk) 13:10, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

X-Files Wiki CSS Edit

I wonder if you could help me - the X-Files Wiki seems to be looking odd on my computer, the links in the navigation table at the left side have too much space between them and the links at the top of the page turn white when I hover my cursor over them. Is this something to do with Wikis as a whole or just that 1 site? Any help would be greatly appreciated. --Mulder 10:23, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

The spacing was actually normal (or so it looked to me) but I reduced it anyways. I found the culprits of the other problems (see this diff). Go ahead and edit those as you need. You also might look at The Memory Alpha css for complete dark reskin hints (some pages are still broken-colored on x-files, like Special:Preferences). --Splarka (talk) 11:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Favicon CanadaEdit

I noticed that you uploaded the favicon.ico on the Canada wiki but it doesn't appear when I load the Canada wiki pages. I still see the old Wikicity icon. I've emptied the cache and it still doesn't appear. Is it just my computer or is there something wrong with the symbol? Wikada - Talk Contributions 17:28, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

It's probably your cache. Try pressing the reload on your browser on this page. Angela (talk) 19:20, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Note that because Wikia uses a 302 redirect to load the favicon.ico, it can be very hard to clear the cache in some browsers. --Splarka (talk) 02:25, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm on Apple's Safari 2.0.4. Would that browser work differently with favicons than others? Wikada - Talk Contributions 12:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Safari is known to have problems with redirected favicons, as are some versions of Opera. I've added a <link> tag to your javascript there, clear your cache and see if that does the trick. --Splarka (talk) 00:10, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

RuneScape Wiki Ad Dispute Edit

Wiki deletionEdit

Hello Angela, is there a way to delete a wiki or nominate it for deletion? I run the Achaea wiki but since there is little activity and an official wiki has appeared it seems to be of little help. --Lilio 14:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

We don't currently have a good way of closing a wiki. I can add it to a list we're making of ones that might need closing, but for now, it's usually best to mark them as available for adoption instead. Angela (talk) 15:17, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, please add it to the list of wikis. Thank you. --Lilio 11:17, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Zlatibor Wiki again Edit

Yes, I was editing some parts of the Media Wiki namespace before. I would like the title to be Encyclopaedia Zlatiborica instead of the current title Zlatibor. I saw sr-zb listed in my preferences, so I though that it was created (although not translated, of course). --Ђорђе Д. Божовић (разговор) 23:04, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

The title is now changed. Angela (talk)

Search_logo.png Edit

I changed my Search_logo.png on the Halo Site but when you click on the link it takes you to the Wikia Home page. I noticed that on Wookieepedia when you click on their Search_logo.png it takes you to their Advanced Search Page. Is there any way to change Halo so that when you click the Search_logo.png it also goes to the advanced search page?

Thank you for your time. --Esemono 00:22, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

It isn't actually possible to change the link. An exception was made for starwars, but this feature isn't being used on all wikis. Angela (talk)

Talk pages of baned users on NonsensopediaEdit

RuneScapeWiki: vs RuneScape:Edit

Over at the RuneScape Wiki, RuneScapeWiki: things have been switched with RuneScape:. This should not have happened. For example, RuneScapeWiki:About is now RuneScape:About, whereas it should be RuneScapeWiki:About, as it's a wiki thing. All RuneScapeWiki: pages are now RuneScape: pages, and I was wondering, is this reall correct? I don't think so. Could you say whether or not it is?-- 21:20, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure why that happened, but I've asked on the mailing list for it to be fixed. Let me know if that doesn't happen. Angela (talk)

Home wiki template broken Edit

In the past I was happy to use on wikicities the Homewiki Template from the central Wikicity on my userpage. Now it is all Wikia and the template doesn't want to render anymore. Any idea for a fix on that? Dedalus 14:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Using {{wikicities:...}} instead of {{wikia:...}} seems to be working, so you could use that temporarily, or just copy the actual text from template:homewiki instead of using the template. Angela (talk) 05:13, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
That doesn't seem to be working, see my user page on the Onderwijs Wikia. Copying text however, works fine, ok. Dedalus 10:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Inheritance Trilogy Wiki Edit

Hi Angela! I am an active member of the Inheritance Trilogy Wiki. Currently, Amina skywalker is the only available admin and the founder/bureaucrat hasn't been seen since March. Because of that, I'm wondering if you could please make her into a bureaucrat and me into an admin? I believe that Kumarhk (founder) intended for Amina to be able to assign adminship per this message, and that Amina intended to make me an admin per this message. Please look into it and reply here (or here (Wikipedia) or e-mail me) whenever you get the chance. Thanks in advance for your time. :) G.He(Talk!) 17:36, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I've made her into a bureaucrat. --Splarka (talk) 03:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Cloak Edit

Hello Angela, I'm Tompkins, you might know me, probably not. Anyway, I guess Some of my Uncyclopedian colleagues think I need an IRC cloak, whatever that is, and I was told to come to you for help. My name on IRC is Tompkins, although I sometimes go by Tmopkisn, if you do decide to give me one, I'd like the Wikia kind, since it's the closest to Uncyclopedia. You can contact me at either my Uncyclopedia talk page, or my Wikipedia one. Tmopkisn 07:12, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

What is Wikia?Edit

Re: Your recent revert of my changes at Start a new Wikia.

You seem to be saying that Wikia is both an organization that hosts wikis and an individual wiki used by a particular group. I'm concerned about the lack of clarity that this brings. For example, on the main page you have the follwing statement in answer to the question, "What is Wikia":

Wikia offers free MediaWiki hosting for your community to build a free content wiki-based website. Find out why you should use Wikia for your wiki and then request a new wiki or visit an existing one. Please contact us for more information.

That had seemed clear to me. However, you have other pages that call the individual wikis "Wikia." This seems to include both individual wikis and the plural form. Someone raised the question of what the plural of Wikia is at Talk:List of Wikia.

To my mind, this seems messy. I first noticed it when someone new began referring to the Ecovillage wiki as a "Wikia." That then raises the question: "What is a Wikia?" It was confusing to him and it is to me. Could we try to clarify this? I've raised the question at Talk:Featured Wikia. Michael 14:42, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Question Edit

I accidentally made someone a sysop on my wiki (Ottawa), and now I don't know how to "de-sysop" him. Do you know how to "de-sysop" someone? Because it isn't in the list of special pages. --FreshFruitsRule 12:12, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Bureaucrats cannot desysop. m:Bureaucrat <-- note that Wikia does not have the makebot plugin or the rename extension, so bureaucrats here serve only one function: promotion of other users. If you need someone desysopped, contact a wikia staff to do it. --Splarka (talk) 21:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Angela. I'm an admin, but I'm not staff, and I'm certainly not in a position to set policy. But I posted this proposal for how to deal with edit wars on Campaigns Wikia, and we're coming close to needing something like this. I dont why, but did not founf link to this Wiki earlier, I send a request and when I saw it today in List of Wikia I thought it has been created :) . If you look to recent changes of diablopedia you will see that the creator did absolutely nothing since he was granded to bureucrat ower a week ago. According to google the creator did nothing to promote his wikia. I want to promote it, but i need secure from vandals. Can we do it like - I got sysop on this wikia, and when/if creator apears and doesn't wont me to be a sysyop I give up sysop rights? Kreci ryjek 11:56, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Side note: Usually the founder of a Wikia is given a bureaucrat flag, but as this one was founded by Jimmy there are technically none. I'll nominate Chadlupkes there for +crat. --Splarka (talk) 02:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi again, Angela! I need help at Stargate Command Wikia, as explained in Forum:How do I give a "user" a botstatus. Could you fix this for stargate:User:BotMeister? user blocked Edit

Hello, could you unblock me on polish_uncyclopedia. I have been blocked because, I promised I'll never edit it again (because of one of sysops (her way of treat other users was the only reason of starting Wikihumor, independent "userfriendly" alternative for polish uncyclopedia)). I tried to talk with this sysop - her every single responce is deleting my talkpage (because of "trolling" and vandalizm), and write "please do not feed troll". Well, she calls it trolling - IMHO her behaviour it is a censorship and violation of Nemo iudex in sua causa rule. And one more thing - when Wikihumor was born, sysop I'm talking about, put forward a proposal of negotiations - during whitch she wrote that "soon Korwin will be able to candidate for sysop, because he has over 350 editions in main namespace." Ofcourse, only if we deside to delete wikihumor... And I'm not the first person who believe that Szoferka is extremely biased, and her typicall response for every kind of critisism is to block user and to call him a vandal. hello Edit

although in certain things I am grateful to you, I tell you, it seems to me hypocritical that being an active member of wikipedia you are of vice-president of the organization that is at the same time against wikipedia, of reason that they are not not so in against, in inciclopedia say to be enemies of wikipedia but on having seen them, they are the same touches in different part.

for what wikia is not it independent of wikipedia? why does this have face of political of marketing?

Ok, can you send me a list of which ones still appear please? Angela (talk) 03:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Subpages Edit

Open project development needs subpages on the main namespace, because it's based on projects, and a page related to a project could have the same name of the one for an other project (for example [[Nick's party/where]] and [[Mass pilgrimage/where]]). To keep some order it would be useful to have subpages. I know, in wikipedia they aren't allowed, because categories are clearer, but I don't think that the best solution in OPD is to make a category for every single project. And it's also better to have a kind of main page for every LDI (project), which would be possible with subpages. I didn't know where to make the request, hope here it's ok. --Let's 13:21, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Three things:

  1. Is it possible to do redirects? There is no button for it in the editing interface, but it there some other way?
  2. Is it possible to undo Sysop creations? (By that I mean is it possible for me (i.e., not some other crazy SysOp)to remove a Sysop's privileges?)

Gaiapedia (Gaia Wiki) Edit

Some time ago I requested 3 namespaces for our wiki. I have a feeling that it was passivly rejected because there was no concensus because the community on our wiki nearly never cummunicated with each other, especialy since 95% of the active users had been inactive for a month or two. I'm re-requesting the "Item", "NPC", and "Map" namespaces. As I finaly got communication to begin between members, and I've gathered from our small group of people that actualy work on the wiki 8 votes for the namespaces (The poll counts up to 7, but One member posted a yes using the alternative system before the poll went up), 1 Vote for only the "Item" namespace, and 2 votes against (One of the 3 no's calcualted is actualy the 1 for the single namespace).

The discussion is here(Interwiki linking seams to be broken here).

Could I also request subpages for the Template namespace, I've got a template or two for our forum system that uses the / to seperate into the subpages (Most notibly the Answer template) but for those browsing that template's subareas there is no link back because of how the templates are used. It may also have currently unknown possible uses in the future because our wiki is considering liking with another.

dantman 05:10, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh, if you do make the Item namespace like the community wishes, would It be possible to get a temporary Bot Flag on our GaiaBotSys thats the Bot account I have as a sysop for possible use in certain types of repetative page deletion. I was denied request for a Bot flag on it because bot flags aren't given to sysops for certain reasons, but I was advised by that person to ask for a temporary bot flag for the days' that I need it, in the case I brought up, our Item Migration which will fill up the recent changes with redirect page deletion if we do not have a bot with sysop capabilitys. For Item migration accounting for the time before I get on the computer after the flag is given I beleve 2 or 3 days should suffice, that gives time for Migration from ___ to Item:___ and for Link Changes, and finaly the actual Page removal by Bot. dantman 07:49, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
The namespaces have been added. I don't think adding a bot flag would help since page deletions wouldn't be hidden from recent changes anyway. Angela talk

follow up comments on en.guildwars.wikia stuff Edit

The profession icons images (Assassin-icon.png etc) are actually original art work created by User:LordBiro of the GuildWiki, inspired by in-game icons (which doesn't look all that great when used on webpages). So it should be considered more as "fan art" and should be deleted from en.guildwars.wikia. For comparision:

Similarily, w:c:en.guildwars:Image:Assassin-icon.png is another original creation by LordBiro. I don't have the picture of the in-game image immediately available, but I can dig around for it if necessary. Thanks. -PanSola 08:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Angela - I signed up at the very beginning, in July. I listed myself as a blogger, I linked to the Campaigns Wikia at least twice, I emailed Mr. Wales and just this evening, to my surprise, he emailed me back. A pleasant surprise I should say. Now, however, I haven't received listserv digests since the very first week I signed up and I'm listed as a blogger who doesn't link to the campaigns wikia but is just doing it for page rank (which, I confess, I'm not even sure I know exactly what that is).

So - a couple of things: I think this is a great idea and would like to get more involved. I'd like to correct the impression that I haven't linked to the Wikia and remove myself from the blacklist so to speak! And, I'd like to start receiving the listserv emailed digests again.

I see this says I'm not logged in, though I do have login settings. I suppose I should login whenever I come over?

Thanks for whatever advice you can provide.

Academia and Wikiversity Edit

Hello, Angela. You suggested earlier that Wikiversity and the Academic Publishing Wiki largely overlap. With the launch of Wikiversity, I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to merge the projects. I continue to feel that wiki academic publishing could serve as a valuable resource, but it's a project that requires a large and active userbase. The Academia Wikia has a few devoted editors, but would almost certainly benefit from a move. Likewise, it would be an important addition to Wikiversity. I would appreciate any help you can offer in connecting the two projects. Sarge Baldy 21:31, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I've "formally" made the suggestion here, if you're interested in weighing in. Sarge Baldy 19:20, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

About Interlanguage Link Edit

I always appreciate your service very much. :-) Pages increased with wcl.wikia. Therefore, I hope that Interlanguage Link becomes active. I sent mail last week. But, I am afraid that it didn't reach to you, for some problems. I appreciate your service again. Watchtower Library 11:46, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Interlanguage link became active. Thank you very much!!! --Watchtower Library 15:01, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

anomalias Edit

in my wikia I want to rise for file, a file ogg, but the section: to raise file, I do not operate like it must be and the file instead of rising classified as what is: a file media.subio classified under the category of: imagén: how do I do so that it could raise him? it is a municipal anthem

only the text has legal validity in Spanish, any flaw of the translation in English has to adjudicarcesela to: ImTranslator 3.0
