Request additions to spam blacklist from SCA wiki[]
On the Sustainable Community Action Wiki, we've been getting a number of spam entries using different IP addresses and affecting diferent pages, so normal stuff of blocking and protecting pages seems ineffective. Most recent: [1]

- I've added osbercad\.com. I'm not sure about the 2nd one. Was it a one-off or have those atspace addresses been spammed anywhere else? Angela (talk) 01:20, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, Angela, Thanks. Yes, 2nd one - have been 7 instances including the atspace addresses since 00:13, 11 Jul 2005, although we've been able to keep the number down a bit as has used same IP address so far, so been able to block once obvious not going to go away. Philralph 07:12, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)

It replaced the entire contents of previous edits. If I am mistaken, I apologize. Robert Harrison 02:30, 19 Jul 2005 (UTC)

porno spam from multiply IPs[]
received the same porno spam from 69.50.187.89, 69.50.187.91 and 69.50.184.221.
i can block them but they only alter the IP.
the page being affected is the main page on PeaceWiki ...
the "diff" pages:

what can be done other than protecting the page?
thanks. -ts-(talk) 13:48, 22 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting it. I've blacklisted some of those URLs and checked the IPs - they had also spammed universitywikinodewiki and dystopia. Angela (talk) 15:57, 22 Jul 2005 (UTC)
spam at Protoscience and Academia[]
86.104.17.160 added a bunch of pornography URLs to the Journal of Protoscience and Journal of Soul Science pages. More of the same at academia.wikicities.com --JWSchmidt 14:27, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting it. That IP has spammed Alaska and Vancouver as well. Angela (talk) 23:24, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)
61.25.121.90[]
This one seems intent editing jellos page. Has done so twice, both removing stuff and adding a link.

Garbage from 81.177.7.37 about Multiple Sites (e.g., work-from-home...netfirms.com)[]
Junk postings from this IP ran across many Wikicities August 30th. Some of the key URLs have been blacklisted already. If you find more problems, please help fix them. Unless they are newer than 17:59, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC), they don't need to be reported anymore. Thank you all for your help! --CocoaZen 21:16, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)

- Not as far as I can see.. there's probably still alot of unreverted spam though. Is there any way to automate reverting/finding a specific IPs edits across all Wikicities? – Jello2 21:47, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I checked the IP 81.177.7.37 which had spammed 82 wikis. It should all be reverted now. I'm hoping in future the option to check IPs will become a special page rather than something I need to run on the server. Angela (talk) 15:23, 2 Sep 2005 (UTC)

- I've removed the Russian ones, but if you see spam from them, can you let me know the subdomains so I can blacklist those? Host.sk is too much of a problem though. They regularly spam 80 wikis in one go, so I'll leave that in until there are any valid sites there which need to be linked to. Angela (talk) 13:45, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)

FYI, 81.214.101.220 spammed the Calgary: wiki as well as the pc: wiki. -- JamesTeterenko 23:58, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
- Looking at a few random wikis, I also found it at Stargate:. Is there an easy way to check the changes at all wikicities? -- JamesTeterenko 00:07, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- There's a combined recent changes at Bloglines, but it doesn't pick everything up and limits how many changes are actually shown. Angela (talk) 03:21, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- I used that, and that is how I picked up the ones that I did fix. Since you have to click on every Wikicity to see the result, I only looked at some of them. -- JamesTeterenko 04:40, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
- That is good to know. I'll use that next time. -- JamesTeterenko 15:10, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

This "invisible" exploit they've found is getting really annoying as they only show up when viewing diffs, but I guess you can't really ban that attribute... Garrett 22:15, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- This isn't done to be annoying, but apparently to minimize harm done to the wiki; Alexandru Popescu, one of the guys that does this, said to me in an email to reason why his spam was "ethical": "2nd is that my spam comes in a tiny div and is always appended ." I guess it's better in some aspects.
- But I really find it hard to believe that spammers are too stupid to notice everything here has rel=nofollow. – Jello2 00:52, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

New Alaska wiki Spam[]
From my aggregator I discovered that a new edit happened on http://alaska.wikicities.com/wiki/Category_talk:Browse There are dozens of links left inside of div tag: guid="{877b43bd-1c2b-e184-4437-a8dc809f3303}"style="overflow:auto;height:1px;" The links point to q301.com. Clicking on the page showed no text. I removed the links, blocked the user.--Doug 16:47, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- They were over at MozCom, too, with about hundred or so edits. "<!-- Advertisment by Lothario@I-Love-Your-WebSite.com -->." I'll email him and tell him about nofollow.. you'd think someone who spams wikis for a living would know to check for it. – Jello2 19:44, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- I just found a bunch more on Cities:. I'l add it (q301.com) to the blacklist. What's "no follow"? And, I wouldn't necessarily believe that the signature matches the poster. This was odd because they weren't going to be visible anyway; are they just trying to get their crawler count up? --CocoaZen 22:11, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- If you look at the page source you'll see all the external links have rel="nofollow" attached to them. It means webspiders won't crawl the links, so their search ranking doesn't go up, which is the reason behind wikispam usually -- so their efforts are in vain. I think DCLXVI added q301 earlier, though. :) – Jello2 22:25, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)

The Responsible One : What you don't know is that Yahoo! seems to ignore the nofollow tag or at least has old versions of your pages . Technically nofollow stops from casting a vote but it does queue you up for indexing . Trust me on this . I think you have guessed the eMail is fake of course . It's just for me to know when you are stamped (not spammed) .
Cheers ! And btw , I've seen the nofollow , but I've explained my reasons . :) I appologize for my actions but I think you've seen I did no deface your sites , and my spam was virtually invisible . I've seen many wikis wiped out but I have respect for your work .
Take care . I don't think I'll spam you anymore . (scythe@go.ro - for any potential comments)

Alaska (again)[]
Spam from ip 84.235.174.186 and ip 203.116.214.2 which was first commented with "Problem?" and then on the second edit "Reported vandalism." I didn't know how to use the rollback feature so after a few tries I simply re-edited the last good version and saved it. The vandalism happened on Talk:Alaska, same as the other times. --Doug 03:17, 23 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- If you're logged in, you should see a "rollback" link when you look at the user's contributions, or at a diff page. Angela (talk) 14:16, 3 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- This is why my q301.com spam was nice . No pages were defaced ! I hate spammers with no respect for others work .
- It's not nice to take advantage of open editing. Filling wiki pages with hidden links is not very respectful either, especially when the spamming is completely pointless. Wikicities has nofollow enabled for external links. Surely this should be something a spammer would take notice of before annoying us with your capitalism. – Jello2 19:20, 9 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I wouldn't call it capitalism, since there doesn't seem to be any investment. It's litter, as far as I'm concerned.

RPG Wikicity[]
Hi, on RPG we've been spammed by the following IPs: 85.255.113.158 and 69.86.7.118. They've added porn links pointing to heavenweb.ugly.as, inside of a div tag, so it didn't show up in the text. How are the domains added to the Blacklist? Regards, KainNiemand 20:24, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- By requesting it just like that. Added. Splarka 23:58, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Spamming at conlang (2006-03-08)[]

- replicawatch\.blogspirit\.com
- rolexs\.blogspirit\.com

This hidden spam has been showing up here and there. I'm currently clearing it out of the Religion wiki. Any number of IP's are being used. When looking at Recent changes, the description for the change has consistently be "test", suggesting that this has been automated. -- Kirk 19:07, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- They've hit at least one other wiki too... blacklisting it. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 19:43, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, and a few others; think they're all reverted now. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 21:44, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- Also hit runescape wiki (a number of addresses) - looks like the script will clean it, as the domain name is now on the list - Ace of Risk 23:25, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Repeated Wookieepedia spam[]
Over the last few hours, we've been hit with the same crap over and over. Like this, every time. Always "rx.auto.pl," always under registered usernames. —Darth Culator (talk) 02:59, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Added. Splarka 07:27, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, the "rx" guy is apparently gone. But we just got this. 200.118.2.220 wiping out entire pages to post links to "ililio.info." —Darth Culator (talk) 19:31, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Whee, fun. Blacklisted. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 19:35, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Um, could you nuke ca.geocities.com/hotel233falls/folding-leg-poker-table.htm too? It has been spammed onto la désencyclopédie at least a couple of times from different IPs [10] [11] and reverted. --carlb 01:21, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
New spammer[]
We just got hit with a spammer, posting a bunch of links. You can see it here... -- Danny Toughpigs 23:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

IPs--Apparently Bots Blanking Pages[]
<snip>
We hope 19:45, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. All checked. Luckily those IPs don't have any unrevrted edits on other Wikia this time. I wonder if it's the frequency of medical terms on petdiabetes which is attracting the spammers there (I assume these page blankers are broken spam bots). Angela (talk) 14:52, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
tabltsbylis.com[]
This has shown up on the Democracy Wiki twice now. --Kirk 23:35, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Added. Splarka 03:30, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
hifrienddd.info[]
Is added using display:none to various pages on Memory Alpha right now. IP addresses are only used once or twice in a row, so blocking is inefficient. -- Cid

freeforen.com[]
another CSS override spam URL from MA. Coming in on multiple IPs. Please blacklist. -- DarkHorizon, 20:13, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks to Starwars:User:62.221.33.161, who did this, we should add well-fargo.tripod.com, gmac-mortgage-corp.tripod.com, weight-watcher.tripod.com, sams-club-online.tripod.com, tadalafil-cialis.tripod.com, crestor-online.tripod.com, and levaquin-500.tripod.com to the blacklist. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:00, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

various spammers[]
There's been a lot of this lately at academia.wikicities.com:
Sarge Baldy 01:11, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Those have mostly been added already. Be sure to check the spam blacklist history when reporting old stuff (older than a day anyway), as these spambots often hit multiple wikia at the same time. Splarka 03:14, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
vesna.blogharbor.com[]
Multiple variations of this have shown up on a number of wiki's. I forget exactly which, but the latest one that I have found it is Protoscience.--Kirk 17:49, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Just added it. Cheers. Splarka 02:44, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
From blocked IPs on Wookieepedia[]
