Update individual Wikia pages and/or redirect to here[]

This looks great. Individual Wikia could well link to it instead of doing their own.

However, Towns, Villages and Cities has a 6-month-old tutorial page (based on Tucson and deriving from WP) and I've just amended it slightly (in two edits a couple of hours apart). Seems the bot recently looking for "Wikicit..." wasn't perfect. My manual search found several more to fix. I also changed the order of a few things and added some of my usual supposedly helpful comments.

Supporters of other Wikia that have tutorial pages are welcome to use "our" page if they think a bit of updating may be in order and aren't ready to make the leap to redirecting it all to here (or prefer to keep their readers firmly at home instead of risking losing them to the delights of Central Wikia).

I think both types are tutorial are useful - the more textual type for people a bit more comfortable with that, and the more visual type for real beginners. Feel free to copy this one over to any Wikia of course, and I'm happy to make custom screenshots to match for any Wikia that wants them (if you don't fancy doing it yourself and don't want the central ones). But what I think will really make a difference, is if this tutorial could be automatically added to all Wikia, without the annoying template in the edit box. I've talked to Jason about this, and he says it's very possible (probably using the mediawiki messages) but it's not high on his list of course, so it may be a while before it's implemented. I'll consider nagging him (or John) when things seem a bit quieter ;) -- sannse (talk) 07:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Sannse is 100% correct here. Some Wiki's naturally have a large cross over between people interested in the subject of the Wiki and people that are confident at editing wikis dont need to worry so much about help pages. For more specialist Wikis (such as our Psychology one) we may need to attract contributors that are totally new to the Wiki experience. Guides such as these can increase the confidence of people so that they may contribute. I'm going to copy this tutorial over to our Wiki and PsyWiki-ize it. Mostly Zen
I think Sannse's idea should be higher up on the priority list, because Tutorial's build confidence, for Wikia to thrive it must attract the newcomers as well as the die hard Wikipedia veterans. I wrote this article about how I think the whole wikia sucess or failure process works. Mostly Zen 21:57, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
