Sortable tablesEdit

It would be good to add a section on making tables sortable using class="wikitable sortable"

Meta-Wiki linksEdit

It would be good to explain right at the top that the Meid wiki help page on tables is more comprehensive and taht this is a simplified version and experienced users of wikipedia or wikia might like to go straight there.Investoman 02:11, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Added a link under the markup section, and tweaked the see also link. Kirkburn (talk) @fandom 23:42, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Bio Box? Edit

Alright, I'm not sure if this is the right place to come to, but would this article be useful in creating a small bio box on the top of pages? EX: Jeff Gordon, you list his hometown, racing career, stats, ect... in it. It's usually on the top right of pages.

Yes, and you may be also be interested in Help:Templates. Kirkburn (talk) @fandom 18:20, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Not playing nice with fixed widthEdit

The Help:Tables page over at The Vault is not formatting correctly since our recent change to fixed width pages. I wonder if there can be a fix for this?--Gothemasticator 05:55, June 26, 2010 (UTC)

Best thing to do is disable the fixed width at help pages. Mark (talk) 16:15, June 26, 2010 (UTC)
Well, it's the easiest thing to do but I'm not sure it's the best. If help pages have display issues on fixed-width-wikis, they have display issues on 1024*768 resolution as well - which is still a very common resolution. The fixes required for this page aren't that extensive - I can patch it up if people don't mind. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:33, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Source mode Edit

Headers are changed on simple edits Edit

Most times when I try to make a simple spelling change to text in any table at, I end up corrupting the headers. This happens both in source view and the icon view modes. I've tried Firefox (the last few versions, failed on 3.6.11 today), Chrome (latest few versions, failed on 7.0.517.41 today) and Opera (latest few versions, failed in 10.63 today). Trying to make a simple change ends up showing the following type of thing on a preview:

Line 166 Line 166
=== Battle Rank Equipment ===   === Battle Rank Equipment ===
+
  {|cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="1"   {|cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="1"
-
- |-
  |Gladiator Sword   |Gladiator Sword
  |   |
Line 179: Line 179:
  |style="text-align:center;"|450   |style="text-align:center;"|450
  |-   |-
- |Commander's Plate + |Commanders Battle Plate
  |   |
  |Armor   |Armor
Line 195: Line 195:
  |style="text-align:center;"|11   |style="text-align:center;"|11
  |style="text-align:center;"|10,000,000   |style="text-align:center;"|10,000,000
- |style="text-align:center;"|+1,000,000 + |style="text-align:center;"| +1,000,000
  |style="text-align:center;"|100,000   |style="text-align:center;"|100,000
  |style="text-align:center;"|100,000   |style="text-align:center;"|100,000

Note that I'm only trying to make a simple spelling change on line 179, no formatting changes of any kind. The other changes are happening in the background somehow. The result varies between browsers, but is wrong in some way in all of them. Firefox and Chrome spit out raw wikia format line(s) from the table headers above the table (|- valign="bottom" !width="125px"| !width="50px"|Image !width="50px"|Type !Attack !Defense !Initial Cost !Incremental Cost(Per Unit) !Upkeep !Battle Points Needed) and display no formatted table headers. Opera adds the columns for row 1 as a new set of column headers beside the first set of column headers, making the table double width, displaying rows 2+ under the proper columns. I'm not sure if this is a wikia problem directly or something with the Castle Age page, but folks there don't seem to understand the problem, so I figured I'd post the feedback here. I'm submitting the changes anonymously, so perhaps something funny is happening with default permissions or similar with anonymous submissions?

Source mode Code Edit

For some reason, a article is NOWYSIWYG and I'm trying to add a table, but I need to know how in source mode. -- Rsrealm Talk Guestbook 21:07, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

That's all going to be defined in this file. Just do a search for wikitable. Rappy @fandom 14:53, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

How do you change color in a table?Edit

I'm trying to change color in a table, and i don't know how to do it. Can someone help me? —This unsigned comment is by Carnarvan (wallcontribs) 09:42, January 9, 2014‎. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

 1. IF you want to change the entire tables color then you add  {| style="background: < background-color >; color: < font-color >;"  to the table code.
 2. IF you want to change the color of an entire row (left/right) then you add  |- style="background: < background-color >; color: < font-color >;"  just above the row that you want to change
 3. IF you want to change the color of an individual cell then you add  | style="background: < background-color >; color: < font-color >;" | < cell data >  to each of the individual cells that you want changed

Templates on Table style parameters Edit

The title may not be named well, but here's a gist of what I want to do

Currently, I have a template which stores all my rgba (by #switch) so that I could just edit one single page to control all the colors of whatever uses this template (for this sample let's just call it colors.) However, once I input those via style="background:some syntax;", and assuming some syntax = #FFCC00, what happens is:

! align=center style="background:#FFCC00;" | Hello

Instead of something like:

A turnaround to this is making the table into a template, using style="background:{background-color};" then once executing the template I could have |background-color = some syntax.

However, my biggest gripe is that I've done this numerous times before already on another wiki (specifically this wiki), but somehow it doesn't work on the one I just started.

Do I have to import something for this to start working?

Additional note, but the <some syntax> I'm using is PAGENAME since I have it on a template

Please ask this on our Forum rather than the help talk page (as the top of the page suggests). Thanks. Rappy @fandom 17:54, August 3, 2018 (UTC)

CSS and Image BackgroundsEdit

I am having trouble with getting tables to show there image backgrounds. Insead of one image percell, how do I get it so that all the cells show different parts of an image? Jonmichaelriggboi2 (talk) 23:34, December 9, 2019 (UTC)

I probably should have clarified. I want to find out how to grid an image with table cells that each take up a different part of the image. —This unsigned comment is by Jonmichaelriggboi2 (wallcontribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

The only way I know to do this is to literally edit the image and break it up in the the number of cells and have each cell show the specific portion of the image as the background image. -- Jrooksjr aka M o r p h | C | T/D/W 629 contributions and counting. 14:02, December 11, 2019 (UTC)
