Interlanguage link Edit

There is a referring page in German available which shoud be linked with de:Hilfe:Interwiki-Links. --Thomas Tunsch 10:45, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

The Elder Scrolls Fanon Wiki WikiNode Edit

Wow, I just created a WikiNode for Elder Scrolls Fanon and another one for the OblivioWiki, and now this page shows up. I hope other users try to connect wikis together. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 21:03, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm a bit surprised (pleasantly!) at how well this is received (not just by you - by the initial members as well). I feel a bit like Jack with his beanstalk.
Anyway, I've edited in details for membership application, although none of the existing members have yet reviewed them. --Jesdisciple (talk) 21:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Im afraid I am with your colleagues on this - I found it hard to know what you were trying to say, probably because I am missing important bits of knowledge. I couldnt get my head around what a wikinode was and got lost in the notion of parent articles and children etc. For me it needs some diagrams with examples. Dr Joe Kiff 17:23, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for identifying a problem I can shoot at! I've just uploaded an image; please see if it clears things up for you. --Jesdisciple (talk) 06:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm close to Dr Joe's position though probably a little ahead: I have created several wikinodes (though not with the avoidance of capital letters that one enthusiast advocated), and I create links between Wikia sites frequently. I wonder if Jes could add some real examples inside those interesting but empty coloured boxes??

Any Advantages?Edit

Are there any advantages to using this over just providing an external link to another wiki on Wikia? Darkman 4 22:43, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

URL links can be block due to spam, and interwiki are shorter if you want to save bits of bytes --Cizagna (Talk) Central Dofus 00:03, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Interwiki requests Edit

I think it could be interesting to add a link to this page. --Cywil 20:49, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

Redirects that won't work Edit

A few minutes ago, I tried to redirect a redlink on the iCarly Wikia Episode Guide to the Victorious Wikia, but I would up on a Wikia page I didn't want to be on. I can't even display the pages on this message board. I had no problem interwikilinking until tonight. Can somebody fix this for me? ----DanTD 00:47, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

Change suggestions Edit

 1. "Interwiki links are shortcuts that prevents you needing to use the full URL," because "shortcuts" is a plural, the following verb should be singular ("prevent") so it would change as follows "Interwiki links are shortcuts that prevent you needing to use the full URL," or probably better, using a different article to change the mode: "Interwiki links are shortcuts which prevent the need to use the full URL," I'm not really good at explaining English rules/grammar and stuff but to me the proposition sounds more natural.
 2. "So for example if you wanted to link to the Jedi page on Wookiepedia, you would use w:c:Starwars:Jedi." The correct spelling is "Wookieepedia" (two "e"s before the "p")

Just a couple minor corrections I would like to propose. —User:Jak Himself (talk) 22:47, February 28, 2014 (UTC)

Done, but it's a wiki, you can as well fix it as you see fit. The admins/staff will intervene if it gets out of hands. –Dunnoob (talk) 05:27, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
Ahh okay. On the wiki I got here from it says something along the lines of "suggest changes here" and provides a link to this page so I assumed that's what we were supposed to do. Thanks! —User:Jak Himself (talk) 17:19, March 5, 2014 (UTC)
Well, I'll clarify about that: it's best not to overhaul the entire Help page (which is transcluded on thousands of wikis, mind you!) without having a discussion first, hence the "suggest changes here", but nobody's gonna yell at you for fixing an itty grammar error. c: Edit

What is the c short for? Alysdexia (talk) 22:29, September 20, 2014 (UTC)

Which c? In w:c:freeciv: the w:c: roughly means another wikia — Wikia was Wiki cities many years ago, that explains the w:c:. In w:c:c: the 2nd c: is a shorthand for community, where we are. In other words, you can link to community central from another wikia with w:c:c:, example: w:c:c:Help talk:Interwiki link goes to this page here from any wikia. The folks on meta: decided to use c: at the begin as shorthand for commons: some months ago, but I can't tell how far they are with this project, and when (or if) Wikia will also support it. At the moment c: results in a bad link here. –Dunnoob (talk) 14:49, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

Images Edit

Can this be used to make an image in your signature appear across all Wikias? 15pxOLIOSTER (talk) 09:22, March 27, 2015 (UTC)

Having interwiki in your sig puts some strain on the server (or something), so they really wish you don't. Try using the url instead. --Tupka217 10:19, March 27, 2015 (UTC)

Linking to a Wikia site from an off-Wikia community Edit

This section currently offers two formats/syntax examples for linking to Wikia from off-Wikia sites:

Wikia:c:wikianame:pagename or Wikiasite:wikianame:pagename

However, when trying to use the first one on Wikipedia, it doesn't work. I tried Wikia:c:wikianame:pagename and had to change it to Wikia:wikianame:pagename. I thought maybe it was just because I was linking to a Community Central page, but no, linking to other Wikia wikis from Wikipedia also required removal of c: in order to work.

Is the example syntax correct? Maybe it changed and needs to be updated? Or is this a special case just for Wikipedia?—that should probably be added since off-Wikia links to Wikia are probably common on large wikis like Wikipedia.

not working from external site Edit

I'm trying to link to a specific wiki from an external site, but when I try using Feeling Pinkie Keen (the first part of which directs to wikia and the rest of which is used as the target page), I instead end up on https://www.wikia.com/Wiki/w:c:mlp:Feeling_Pinkie_Keen. Does anyone know if it's possible to make this work? putting the previous link in my address bar has the same effect, so I'm wondering if wikifur's engine just doesn't know it's supposed to parse the w:c:<target>?--Twisted Code a.k.a. Macks2010 (Talk) 18:49, April 20, 2019 (UTC)

I subsequently changed the link to try to point to a different target page (since it was the wrong episode name anyway. The episode I'm now trying to point to is The Last Roundup), but, unlike the link I just made to the left of this, it still doesn't work on the external site. --Twisted Code a.k.a. Macks2010 (Talk) 15:21, April 26, 2019 (UTC)

"homepage:w:" links Edit

Why do people put the word "homepage" at the begining of some wiki links? They all redirect to the Fandom home page and kill the link previously written. (See e.g.). —Sapador Castelo (talk) 15:35, May 28, 2019 (UTC)

Gamepedia Edit

any advice on how to link to a Gamepedia article? --80.153.132.36 15:49, December 13, 2019 (UTC)

Also curious about how best to accomplish this apart from a standard URL link. Are there interwiki link text to gamepedia sites from fandom wikis? --TimPendragon (talk) 03:47, March 22, 2020 (UTC)
gp:wikiname can link to a Gamepedia wiki homepage, such as gp:zelda. However, it doesn't look like it can work with linking to a specific article, at least from what I can figure out. I don't know if there's some other way. Nan CrazyForMyself 05:10, March 22, 2020 (UTC)
Seems like a bit of an oversight that something wasn't properly set up when you consider the two are owned by the same people now. (also the gp interwiki link doesn't seem to work on other wiki's and instead only Community Central which is all the more strange). I'm gonna send in a support request as this seems perfect for it to either get it fixed and/or documented what the prefix is supposed to be, or at the very least why it won't work. Dave247 (talk) 07:31, May 21, 2020 (UTC)
So I have an update from Fandom for whoever finds this in the future. They confirmed that there isn't one globally yet as it is unfortunately something not easy to update globally, but that it is an area they want to overhaul in the future and when they do this will likely be something they will include.
Also they aren't going to locally enable support for it if you request it, however, I suspect if your wiki is one of the rare ones that has either migrated or shares an active sisterwiki on Gamepeida then you would have some solid ground to request an interwiki link.
