Bad

The new design is BAD!! Very BAD!!!

Can we at least have Oasis as an option to go back to?

I personally don't like the new theme and having the old one stay would prevent me from having to relearn the entire website. —This unsigned comment is by CaptainGame17 (wallcontribs). Please sign your comments by adding "~~~~" in the source editor.

Oasis is being retired, as is Hydra. --MisterWoodhouse (talk) 13:30, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
So there can't be an option to go back to an oasis? SafariKid2 (talk) 22:19, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
Correct. The current option to go back to Oasis is a temporary one during rollout. Oasis and Hydra will be retired after full rollout. --MisterWoodhouse (talk) 14:55, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

FandomDesktop is just... an eyesore

Sorry, but FandomDesktop looks absolutely off-putting, and it's just awful to look at on different Wikias/Fandoms. If this ends up being a mandatory replacement and disallowing me to use the Oasis layout, then its become clear that the people at Fandom have blatantly ignored us over the things none of us wanted. Ever since the removal of the MonoBook layout, the Fandom has gotten more and more disconnected to the community in forcing us to use layouts that are too confusing and unappealing to look at, and FandomDesktop isn't an exception either. They're deliberately ruining their own reputation by ten-fold. JonTheVGNerd (talk) 19:51, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

The monobook layout was bland. Furthermore, people were heard regarding this new thing. It might not be perfect but it is just as good as Oasis, in my opinion. Zacatero • (Wall) • 15  20  15 01:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Guess what, BLAND IS GOOD. Monobook is like getting a perfectly white sheet of paper in which you can draw or write as you want. Fandom's designs are like a girly stationery, with a ton of useless frills on the edges that are distracting from the content and leave only a small fraction of the sheet usable. LYRIC-Stormwatch (talk) 18:14, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

GODDARNIT FANDOM

i hate the new design.

A+ feedback. Zacatero • (Wall) • 15  20  15 01:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Detailed or not, it's still feedback and shouldn't be ignored. Felice Enellen (talk) 20:24, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
It's not really feedback. "This is not good" is not feedback. What about it isn't good? What can Fandom do to change it? Simply having an opinion is not feedback. Zacatero • (Wall) • 15  20  15 20:50, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Remember Digg? The news aggregator? When they launched a new design without letting users revert to the old design, many Digg users left for Reddit, another news aggregator. This same thing is happening to Fandom, if there isn't an option to revert to Oasis, people will flock in the masses to alternatives like Miraheze. Just saying.Robloxianredditor (talk) 17:29, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Can someone tell the moderators to delay this forever? It's just garbage and no one would want this. Mornelouwdaddy (talk) 04:42, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Rather than calling it a garbage, I think it is better to point out and explain the things you believe they should improve or change regarding the new design. That way, they might listen to your advice.

Literally everything in desktop is garbage... It's better if they can actually read the feedback from users. Mornelouwdaddy (talk) 15:03, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Well, if you want an assurance that your feedback are heard by them, you can file a ticket on Zendesk. There, you will have a Fandom staff responding to your suggestion directly. It will take times, but they will respond as long as you be specific and informative about your complain and not writing anything that are against the rules. You can also ask them on Fandom Discord. There are many Fandom staff there and they might answer your suggestion as long as you follow the rules and write the complain on the correct channel.

FandomDesktop is garbage. 0/10 wouldn't recommend you to make something that hideous like this ever again. TheMaster84 (talk) 07:17, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

This sucks.

This sucks, I hate it. Dasu! (talk) 00:33, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Ranting about the change won't bring back Oasis. They have decided that they would change the layout to FandomDesktop. Now, we all know that FandomDesktop still have a lot of issues. I think being more specific by telling them about the bugs you encounter, what you dislike about FandomDesktop, and helpful features that were available in the old layout but disappear in the new one will be much more helpful for them to improve FandomDesktop than a mere rant sentence. Maybe, just maybe, they would listen to your critics if you wrote it that way.

Most of us hate this new design update, so why are you forcing it on us? —This unsigned comment is by Canttouchthis5555 (wallcontribs) 22:23, July 10, 2021 (UTC). Please sign your comments by adding "~~~~" in source editor.

Good point. No one even asked for the update and the admins just went 'lets remake the entire website'. Mornelouwdaddy (talk) 15:08, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
This new skin was part of the UCX rollout, which came from Fandom and Gamepedia merging. It's been discussed for... a long time now. The fact that people don't tend to pay attention to the news on Community Central is nobody's fault but theirs for not paying attention. I understand it's frustrating, but no matter what you do or how much you complain, Oasis IS going away. So you might as well direct that energy into making your communities look good in Fandomdesktop. Zacatero • (Wall) • 15  20  15 15:22, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
Did anyone even ask for you to write that long paragraphs? Anyways, like JonTheVGNerd said, Fandom is ruining their reputation by tenfold. What are those reasons you may ask? FandomDesktop. Mornelouwdaddy (talk) 15:39, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
No I was just giving you an honest reply to your issue, nobody asked me to. Also... with whom is Fandom ruining their reputation? Because, the bigger wikis that actually get most of the viewers have been adjusting just fine. Zacatero • (Wall) • 15  20  15 16:47, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
Why do you not listen to the community? How many messages on this page are positively reviewing FandomDesktop? How are you not picking anything up from that? AdebowaleOwusu (talk) 17:58, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

crammed screen space

absolutely gotta love how the entire page is squished into a much smaller space in the middle so they can shove ads in your face on the left and right. if this is gonna be the new default theme, sure, go ahead. but why remove the other themes? Oreli (talk) 21:18, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

You can change the spacing in your preferences. Itogi (talk) 21:27, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

I also love how that huge amount of space on the sides is also completely blank if you have ad blocker (like I do), so it looks even more useless and unappealing. The Wiki that I contribute to as an Admin finally converted over to this hideous "update," so we've lost all the customization that has withstood other updates over the past decade. Thanks a lot, Fandom team. I tried messing around with Theme Designer, too, but it's a complicated and overwhelming mess to deal with. They really missed the mark on the old saying, "Keep it simple, stupid."

I also cannot find the search bar anymore because it has moved out of its usual spot, the side bar is filled with options that I can't imagine anyone would use: TV, Games, Movies, Video, and Wikis? What are those for? Search engines exist, and so does that massive, seemingly never-ending crawl of "related pages" or "trending Wiki pages" or whatever at the bottom of the screen. This sidebar on the left is visual clutter.

Last note because this was my first complaint with UPC: Recent Changes is a spectacular downgrade from Wiki Activities. Not only does it look definitely like "nerd speech" with the weird numbers and letters for "changes" made on pages, which makes it the opposite of user-friendly, it makes it impossible for me (as an Admin) to see what comments are being left on user pages, articles, or blog posts. We also cannot see images that have been added anymore, which is killer for visual folks like myself. I don't recognize what is happening on my own Wiki, so I'm less inclined to log in anymore. I try, but this "update" to FandomDesktop has only amplified my hatred towards the Fandom team for making it harder for non-coding people like me to enjoy what should be ENTERTAINMENT. The Golden Girl 18:42, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Criticisms

The design looks all wrong. It doesn't have all the navigation feature, there's no tab to tell us if the recent changes list or social activity still exist. And the main bar looks so ridiculously sideways-backwards. What if we lose our watch lists too? --1RichardHunt 18:59, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Recent Changes, Social Activity, and Watchlist - all still exist, and there is no plan to remove them. Recent Changes and Watchlist are native parts of MediaWiki. Let's not overreact based on nothing. Nam 08:19, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
How can they be accessed then? --1RichardHunt 21:28, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Recent changes and social activity can both be accessed from Special:RecentChanges, and the watchlist can be accessed at Special:Watchlist. You can use the search or the admin dashboard to find both pages. — CaptFredricks [ leave a messagecontributions ] 19:20, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
What's a "Special" Watchlist? Are you saying they can only be accessed by administrators now? And please, at least consider keeping the toolbar at the top, and not moving it to the left side, it throws everything off. --1RichardHunt 02:15, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
No, Special: is the namespace that the watchlist and recent changes are part of. Namespaces are essentially a way to separate pages that have similar purpose or functionality and categorize them (e.g., Template:, File:, and Category:). Some special pages can only be viewed by admins, like Special:AdminDashboard, while others, like recent changes and the watchlist, can be viewed by anyone. Hope this helps. — CaptFredricks [ leave a messagecontributions ] 22:43, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
How can they be reached from a home page? -1RichardHunt 07:21, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Why

Why is everyone complaining about this? Look, I agree with people that UCP isn't that great, but how does this make it any worse. It looks more professional this way tbh. UCP may have been a bad idea, but this wasn't. 131.242.30.117 00:51, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Great job, Fandom!

You made thousands of people angry! What’s your next update that you’re shoving up our asses? Don’t worry, you can permanently ban me for having an opinion! Oh, and I know the RichardHunter idiot will delete this like the asshole he is. Screw this.

I can get over all the other things but please keep the old search bar in the top

Everything about this sucks but I can get over it if you just keep the little search bar in the top right corner. The new search is horrendous. Also I don't see any reason why we couldn't keep the old design if we wanted, reddit did exactly that with their new design.D3jv40320 (talk) 13:08, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

eyesore

The design looks like it was made for tablets or mobile devices. The bar on the side is a distraction when reading, The user profile button location makes no sense, as does the notification area. the text and screen for that matter look scrunched in and centered like it's meant to cram in massive banner ads, the buttons need labeling too. the sidebar also seems redundant with the top banner having the same features as mentioned earlier it's visual clutter.—This unsigned comment is by Someguy098 (wallcontribs) 00:35, 14 July 2021 (UTC). Please keep the current wikia.

Please keep the current Oasis skin.

"Desktop" design is designed for phones.

Even on a 1080p resolution screen nearly 40% of screen real-estate is wasted between both sides empty areas.

Desktops aren't phones. Why does the design not at the very least expand to the screen?

Chalk up another "modern" redesign that goes backwards in UX in virtually every way.

On a 1440p look how much space is wasted on the sides: https://i.imgur.com/FR25gZk.jpeg , just about 50%.

No, it's not. Press the expand button and voila! The fixed width inclusion is because research shows a narrower line length aids in reading comprehension on even desktop screens, so we're giving our users options between a fixed width or an expanded fluid width, depending on their personal preference. --MisterWoodhouse (talk) 17:32, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Support team where?

So it says a bug report can be filed with 'the support team,' what support team? Where? Shouldn't there at least be a link to click on? Boilpoil (talk) 17:49, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Added. It was supposed to be there from the start and the link formatting got gobbled after drafting the page. --MisterWoodhouse (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Sign-in button

The current location for the sign-in / register button (bottom left on the sidebar) is not intuitive, since most people read from top to bottom, and from a design standpoint, a high-utility feature (logging in to your service) should be more readily apparent to users. What do you think about switching its location with the Fandom button on the top left? 24.176.162.122 19:05, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Why is Fandom trying to make everything integrated?

It happened with Gamepedia, and now the main Gamepedia theme is also being changed. It looks tacky and unwanted, especially for a wiki service that people are supposed to rely on. What next, we get random advertisements about "why are the hulk's tits so massive" when we scroll to the bottom of a wiki page?

EDIT - Nevermind, we get those ads. Just shows how thirsty Fandom are. DailyEvilKiller (talk) 21:15, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

screen space

Oh boy, I sure do enjoy reading this fandom page on only half of my screen with constant annoying advertisements and popups. I do use an adblocker but the fact that there is still an ad container is a pain. Please revert this update.

Look at the top-left of the content area, there is a button to switch to full-width mode. If you register with an account, you can also choose to hide the right rail which will really give you almost the whole width. Nam 23:37, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Why are we not allowed to use the full width? Why even have that part we can't use? What's the point of any of this "FandomDesktop" bullshit? AdebowaleOwusu (talk) 17:52, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Why hide the search?

From what little I've seen so far, I can live with most - buy why was it necessary to hide the search and make it a nuisance to look for something?

Before someone says "It's just a click more, where's the big deal?" - I'd like to know what was the big deal with the old search (always visible, always accessible, just one click and start typing)? Why did it have to go, where's the benefit of the new search?

I suppose it's "modern" to go away from easy usability or something, because I've seen this on other sites as well. I just can't wrap my head around the idea of it. It's like with Windows 8 and the full-screen start menu. Change for the sake of change?Cyberman TM (talk) 09:36, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Usability??

Why do webdesigners always think they can get away with sacrificing usability just to test out some new hip design trends? Why does the desktop look has to suffer because of mobile devices? Responsive design does not mean mobile-first and that desktop has to look and function like a mobile website! And why only use half of the screen??

message2

You have to be kidding me, Fandom. You just have to be kidding me. You are making people mad. Bonus: The person who thought of even designing this in the first place should have not made this and must've liked Oasis. Another bonus: FandomDesktop is complete garbage and no one like this. You can be like Microsoft and remove this, but no I see.Mornelouwdaddy (talk) 13:30, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Who ever made the 'functional' part of the new layout?

Serious, a popup for a search window? A auto filler without enter-to-go? The new theme is all, but efficient is not included.

I dont care for fancy buttons, i dont care for 'fluid lines and easy for the eye', dont care for 'dynamic wide adjustment' or 'index popups'. Wiki is meant for data, information, research, not for an artist to express their inner feeling of a 'zen looking' website.

Might as well scrape the whole oldstyle wiki pages and save it somewhere, so i can still access pages properly.

I hate this new design. I like the original one.

I want the original design kept. Not the new FandomDesktop type.

Hydra was better

This new UI is objectively worse than the Gamepedia's previous default. At least let the Gamepedia wikis keep their old customized Hydra skins. Dota wiki is unusable because of the stupid design choice of forcing the site to use only 50% of the width, etc. Stop buying better wiki sites and then ruining them. Gamepedia was perfect now everything's ruined.

Why?

There's no purpose for this, Oasis works just fine, it's not as confusing, and why can't this be optional? AdebowaleOwusu (talk) 17:48, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

I don't understand

Why do you insist on ruining Fandom? First you rid of Live Chat, and now you're reworking the entirety of the layout to something objectively worse? Why? JackNormanIlVeltro (talk) 17:46, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Bad change.

This looks like a redesign I'd see on an iPad in 2017. This looks so much worse on desktop than the current design and its being labeled as "FandomDesktop" for some reason?? The fact that we can't decide between the old version and the new one is even more of a disappointment. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

EDIT: I've just scanned this entire page and I didn't see a single person praising the new redesign. If you seriously think this a good idea, you've got to be absolutely fucking kidding. CaptainGame17 (talk) 18:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Geocities v2

So, apparently Fandom's making "Geocities v2" with this ugly-ass template overhaul across the entire wikibase that they've been trying to stuff down our throats as part of the UCP... you know, the Universal Cancerous-idea Project.

Mind, if their info about FandomDesktop was "This is how you rebuild your Oasis/Hydra theme on our new redesign to limit how much change your editors and viewers notice the transition", I'm sure this transition would go better, but this is changing a handful of wiki styles into a template that looks like it had been designed 20 years ago for the early days of making sites -- it's generic, and feels "We don't know how to make something unique and custom, so we just used a template offered by the platform" like when I first hit the internet late high school. Why restrict choice?!?

Why can't you let use choose Hydra Dark/Oasis? Why not let people choose which design they want?? Forcing changes is as bad as every other website's forced changes, and there is no reason for it to happen. But why do it anyway?!?

True, they can just do it optionally like how other wiki websites do. Multiple skins and let people choose their preferred skin. FabbyInfo 05:06, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Just, why?

Took a look at Fandom Desktop. You know the old saying that what isn't broken, you don't need to fix it? I feel like the staff at wikia/fandom/whatever have never heard of this, because the old theme was perfect. It was modern, yet minimalistic that it isn't so needlessly complicated for new or old users to use. It was straight to the point.
