Local issues are problems that are happening on your specific wiki but not on other wikis or across all of Wikia. Local issues could include:

  • Problems with other users
  • Content you find incorrect or inappropriate
  • Issues with your account
  • Software bugs
  • New features

What to do?

If you run into an issue on Wikia, it is best to go through the following steps:

  1. Check if the issue is happening just on your wiki or in other places as well
  2. Check out the help pages and the staff blog (for announcements on new features or current issues occurring sitewide)
  3. Talk to other users directly (talk page messages or discussion pages are a great place to do this)
  4. Speak with your local admins (they are the most informed of local issues)
  5. Post to the Wikia community forum (where community members work together to answer questions and solve problems collectively)
  6. Contact Wikia staff

When should you contact staff?

There are over 100,000 wikis on Wikia, and our Community Support Team serves them all equally. Most problems on a wiki can be solved by the local community. You are the experts here, so talk with each other to see if you can solve the problem before you contact staff.

In some cases it is necessary to contact the Wikia staff. These include:

  • Closing your account (its not possible to switch your username and keep your editing history, so you will need to create a new one if that is what you want to do)
  • Closing your wiki (we tend to not close wikis because they are community-owned sites)
  • Changing your wiki's sitename or URL
  • Turning on/off features or extensions
  • You are experiencing a bug with Wikia's tools

What to include when contacting staff?

If you need to contact Wikia staff it is important to provide us with as much details as possible so we can quickly and efficiently. It is helpful to include:

  • Username
  • Screenshots (If you need help, try http://take-a-screenshot.org/)
  • Wiki URL
  • Information about the browser and operating system you are on
