A favicon (short for favorite icon) is a small image shown on browser tabs as a visual representation of a site. It is shown next to the article/site name, and is also used for browser bookmarks. Uploading your own customized favicon can give your wiki a unique touch!
How do I replace the default favicon?
Create an icon (16 × 16 pixels) from an image file using an online favicon generator or image editing software.
Note: This file must be saved in ICO format, using software designed for generating .ico
files. Simply renaming a .jpg
/.gif
/.png
file with an .ico
extension will not work. However, you can use online generators such as RedKetchup to convert your files to .ico
, up to 256 pixels in dimensionality.
To upload the favicon, open Theme Designer, then look for 'Favicon' on the Wordmark tab. In this section you can upload the .ico
file and Fandom will do the rest for you!
You may need to append the URL with ?action=purge
to see the favicon appear right away.
Should I protect the favicon?
Once uploaded via Theme Designer, the favicon file will be automatically protected as File:Site-favicon.ico.
