Auto Adoption
All wikis created after May 2011, are eligible for auto adoption. If a wiki has not had an active admin for 30 days it automatically goes up for adoption. Wikis that were created before May 2011, may be auto adopted if they have less than 10,000 pages (if they have more, they are not adoptable).
Time Table for Auto Adoption:
There are a number of emails that go out over a thirty day period to the founder and admins of the wiki:
- If there has been no admin editing on the wiki for 14 days an email goes out to founder/admins alerting that there has been no activity on the wiki.
- At 27 days of no activity from admins another email goes out giving founder and admins 3 days to make an edit.
- After no active admins for 30 days - a wiki adoption notification appears on the global tool bar, and a final email goes out.
- On the 30th day the notification flag goes up that the wiki is set for auto adoption - founder and all admins see this, including anyone who visits that wiki.
- It takes only one admin to reset this counter, if at any point in this process an edit is made it goes right back to 0.
Adoption Process:
- Clicking on the notification flag will take the interested party to an adoption special page.
- This page says: no one is active, would you like to adopt this wiki?
- If the person wants to adopt the wiki -- they click the adopt button on the special page -- if they meet the criteria they will become the new founder & admin.
- Any old founder/bureaucrat lose their status, but are still admins.
- Existing admins do not lose their status.
- When you adopt a wiki you will not get the new founder emails -- we are working on changing this and it will be fixed.
- If you do not meet the criteria you get an error message.
Criteria:
If you are interested in adopting a wiki you must meet this criteria:
- Must not have adopted another wiki within the past 60 days.
- Have 10 edits on the prospective wiki.
- Be a registered Wikian user.
- Do not be blocked on any wiki.
- May not adopt if you are an admin on prospective wiki.
