I can't change my default thumbnail image size in my preferences. It seems that it no longer shows up in my preferences. I had set it a few days ago in preferences, but now it is gone. ----Timeshifter (talk) 23:01, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

In our recent Preferences cleanup, we removed a bunch of deprecated and infrequently used preferences. Default thumbnail size was one of them. We are currently brainstorming ways to give admins control of the default thumbnail size for a wiki rather than a per-user preference.
If you had set your preference to a width other than 180px, that preference should have been saved. Did it change automatically for you? or were you just looking to change it to another size? Trevor (Ohmyn0) (talk) 23:19, January 17, 2012 (UTC)
I want to return my personal preference to whatever the default preference is. ----Timeshifter (talk) 23:28, January 17, 2012 (UTC)
I put everything back to the default settings in my preferences. I used that nuke-em-all link to do so. That was the only way I could figure out to put the image thumb size setting back to the default size. Of course, I had to go through all my other preferences afterward to adjust them to the way I like them. ----Timeshifter (talk) 13:30, January 18, 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the inconvenience. We didn't want to override anyone's preferences, and there was really no other way to set it back to default. Trevor (Ohmyn0) (talk) 16:00, January 18, 2012 (UTC)
OK, no problems. Some people may have forgotten they changed their thumb size preference in the past. That means they are currently viewing their wiki's pages with thumb widths that are different from everybody else. That means they are editing pages thinking they are seeing the page as others see it. That will mess up formatting and cause many problems. Especially with right and left aligned images and videos. Also stacking of those items. And they will be baffled when others complain. I suggest you put everybody back to default thumb width regardless of past settings.
I bet this new one-choice-only thumb width is partially due to the too-narrow content space that many people hate (myself included). I suggest increasing the width of the content space a little. I know this will probably be ignored as in the past, but I think it is important to keep telling the emperor that he is wearing no clothes.
