Even though 40+ of these pics are categorized, they are listed under Uncategorized images. Is this a cache problem? ― Thailog 22:21, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Your category page was last updated: 19:17, 30 November 2006. This is because wikia has put updating this, and several other pages, on a background process which only occasionlly updated these pages. I know on the w:c:Traveller wiki our Most wanted pages listing hasn't updated in just as long.
- I really wish there were a way to trigger or queue the updating of these pages. I know I've fixed a large number of missing pages and would like to see an updated list to find more. Tjoneslo 00:50, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps I can be more explicit. I really need my Wanted Pages to be updated. I understand why these are cached/slow update, but more than once every two and a half or three weeks would be nice. Tjoneslo 19:31, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- We are thinking about ways to allow admins to update these pages as they need to. At the moment they should update once a week, but that doesn't seem to be happening quite right. Once we've all got over the holiday, I'll make sure that Traveller wanted pages is specifically updated. -- sannse (talk) 22:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
On doom, the list contains 610 images. Many, if not most, appear to be categorized. New uploads finally seem to get categorized properly by licensing templates (hooray!), but prodding is required to remove older ones from Special:Uncategorizedimages. Please tell me I don't need to check all 610 by hand. Ryan W 02:46, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem seems to be that these for some reason require a null edit (usually handled by the job queue, but missed for some reason). For example. w:c:doom:Image:Baronsinfighting-Dawnofthedead-e1m8.png had Category: Screenshots but did not appear in that category when I checked. However, after null editing the image description page, it did appear in w:c:Doom:Category:Screenshots.
- So, what I did was edit w:c:Doom:Template:Screenshot a bit, to put all those pages onto the job queue (which immediate shot up to 622, at w:c:Doom:Special:Statistics). So, when that number hits zero, and when the Special pages are refreshed, all those images should be off the list. Maybe. --Splarka (talk) 03:31, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Job queue length was back down to 0 by the time I even noticed your post. :D Fingers crossed. Ryan W 04:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Nope, no effect. Hmmm. Ryan W 00:26, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's odd. At least the one I null-edited went away. Okay, I changed the actual category and then changed it back. The job queue is now at 1421. If after the next zero'd job queue and Special pages refresh it is still showing images in that category as uncategorized, we'll start a bug report. --Splarka (talk) 01:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Special:Uncategorizedimages seems to refresh between about 22:00 and 22:30 (EDT), so we might not find out until one day from now. Before my initial post to this page, I had already searched bugs.wikia.com and written a bug report (the tab is still open, I just didn't submit it), but then I remembered how many different help pages there are. :> Ryan W 01:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- * facepalm * Still no effect. Bug report submitted. Ryan W 05:36, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- We know that doing a null edit (editing the page and saving it with no changes) will correctly move the image page off the Uncategorized image list (when it updates) and puts it onto the category page. But have you found any that have moved back? That is, once someone has done the null edit on the page, found the page back on the uncategorised list and mssing from the category page?
- I would think this is caused by a page cacheing/page parse issue. I'd be very tempted to simply go through and null edit all or a good selection of images and see if they revert. I'd also check if new images, with the template added categories, are a problem. Tjoneslo 18:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- I thought I'd said this already, but: Yes, they do get fixed when you prod them manually. No, new images are not a problem. The problem is that the job queue is supposed to take care of the backlog (at least when you go so far as to prod the included template, as Splarka did) automatically, and it just doesn't. Ryan W 01:52, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
"Categorizing" the images manually (by making typesetting edits on the description pages that don't change the content) seems to have worked for the cases I mentioned. I suppose I can't fault the staff for having bigger fish to fry anyway, what with the size and bustle of Wikia nowadays — strictly speaking they did fix the bug a while ago. Thank you all for your help. Ryan W 13:21, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
