Hi, just checked out gaming wikia The profile tools that they have are quite impressive. I was wondering if it would be possible to use them on WikiSocial --Drawde83 03:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

He's not the only one hoping they can be used on WikiSocial. Just those tools alone would make WikiSocial 150% What we want it to be. And not only that, It'd be user Friendly. WillSWC 05:11, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Many of these tools will soon be incorporated into the new Quartz skins -- we are doing some final polishing to fit them into a more traditional MediaWiki environment than the magazine-style Gaming Wikia. What elements do you most look forward to having? — Catherine (talk) 16:44, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Myself, I think the Friends List system would be the most importent, at least for WikiSocial. WillSWC 19:09, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Aye, when I joined the gaming wikia, I thought it was social wiki.. Just what we need.. Hope the Quartz skin gets incorporated soon ..--Cometstyles 10:55, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Very soon! You can choose QuartzSmoke or QuartzSlate in your preferences now if you'd like to give it a test drive -- once it's complete, the skin will just be "Quartz", and Smoke and Slate will be two of a dozen or more background color choices you'll be able to make. (Of course the CSS wizards among us will always be able to add their own customizations at skin.css too.)
We're still smoothing the last bits out on this skin, so please let us know if there's something that's not working quite right, or that you find irritating. Important bits: you can drag and drop the boxes in the right toolbar so the links you use most are at top. User page/talk/preferences are now in the yellow dropdown by your name in the header. And check out "Manage Widgets" at the bottom of that dropdown! It gives you a whole host of new goodies that can be dragged and dropped to the sidebar. We have many more widgets to come, and more suggestions are welcome.
And soon we'll have the social tools that will allow you to add friends and see what they've been up to onwiki, and the ability to give wikigifts -- flowers, barnstars, etc -- and other fun stuff! — Catherine (talk) 17:06, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Just a little note, make sure when its being made that its very customizable. I'm thinking of custom wikigifts ATM. :P WillSWC 20:14, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, for first release we're going to stock the shelves with some nifty generic ones for use on every wiki. Later we want to allow custom gifts, but that also needs tools to allow altering and deleting where necessary, and that will take some more time. I think sannse has been working up some ideas if you'd like to share your brainstorms with her! — Catherine (talk) 21:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Nice, This new skin is very cool, I like the draggable stuff :-) the only problem I found was that when I added stuff to the toolbar (while I was creating a new page) the title textbox lengthened and it's now overlapping the toolbox.
The Friend stuff on gaming would be interesting as well as the ability to vote for things (it would be helpful if we could create groups of pages to vote on e.g. nicest looking profile) I probably wouldn't want that foe list but some people might. Theres probably more stuff that will be useful I'll take another look and get back to you.
--Drawde83 00:30, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I'll pass on the bug report. Yes, voting will definitely be a part of it, and I think the planned voting on the best page per category will make this very flexible; if you want to create a new type of vote, just create a new category and add the pages you want to vote on.
We're not planning on incorporating the "foe" functionality -- it was developed for the http://www.ArmchairGM.com sports wiki and made perfect sense to capture the rivalry between Yankee and Red Sox fans, for example. But it isn't used much on Gaming or other magazine sites, and it doesn't contribute much to the building of a successful wiki, so we'll drop that and keep brainstorming on other fun social ideas that can draw people to join the community and help us build great content. We'd love to hear more suggestions! — Catherine (talk) 21:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Hows this going?

Just wondering when the Social tools available on the gaming wiki will be available on other wikis as well.

I've tried out the shoutbox on WikiSocial but it doesn't seem to stay if I refresh or go to another page. On central it works properly --Drawde83 21:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikisocial really could do with these tools. A lot of the tools look like they are aimed at social networking and what wikisocial is trying to do. I hope the wikia team can bring them to Wikisocial --Anarchyuk(talk) 17:43, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
