Hi All, I wanted to introduce our first two "janitors". This is a new group of users, with similar abilities to admins, but on all Wikia wikis (except Uncyclopedia and Wowwiki at the moment, they have separate user lists). This doesn't mean they are admins on all wikis, but they have extra tools to help us with cross-wiki spam and vandalism.

The first two janitors are Datrio, who was one of the community team he recently moved to a new job, and GHe, our resident Spam Hunter ;)

This is a bit of an experiment, so we are starting with just these two for now. We are likely to add more in the future. Please see Janitor policy and guidelines for more on what janitors can (and can't) do to help you. -- sannse (talk) 10:32, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Cool idea. I like it.User:Pdgator29|WeRollMadDeepYo!]]
I believe I've stated my opinion already, but to make sure...I like this idea, a lot. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 19:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
so I suppose if I spot any cross wiki-vandalism I should mention it on one of the Janitors talk pages? --Drawde83 21:50, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Yep - or then you can come to #wikia IRC channel for live help. The janitors are often there, and so are Wikia staff members and other helpful users. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 21:54, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Nominations

Currently, the amount of active janitors/helpers is not quite enough to keep cross-wiki spam and vandalism to a minimum 24/7 (and staff are usually busy too). Therefore, I was wondering if I could nominate myself to become a Wikia janitor. I am familiar with all the policies, etc. and I do help out on other wikis, mainly for users on IRC. Also, I apologize if there was a better spot to put this, but I couldn't find one :) --Skizzerz talk 23:23, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Even though janitorship is not something where users vote, I think Skizzerz would make an excellent janitor. He's clearly got talent - and as a plus, he knows some PHP too. ;-> --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 00:33, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Uncyclopedia

It looks like this "janitor" status is becoming a way to get one-click 'rollback' ability on en.Uncyclopedia without having to obtain consensus on that local wiki first. We're beginning to see this sort of activity - a long string of reversions which don't fall into the narrow categories of "cross-wiki vandalism", spam or intervention where there is no local admin. Not quite what Janitor policy and guidelines#When_to_take_action appears to envision.

Would it be worth raising the issue on the local forum in that wiki to see what consensus is on this issue? It's entirely possible that many of the rollbacks were of routine vandalism, but at the same time this does appear to broaden the 'janitor' role well beyond that described here and in the guidelines. --66.102.80.212 07:29, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Contrast [1] with [2] - I have been active at uncyc long before I was a janitor, and most of my rollback reverts there were using Olipro's user-only rollback script. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to differentiate the times I use real rollback with the times I use Oli's script; they both draw the edit summary from uncyclopedia:MediaWiki:Revertpage. -- Manticore (talk) 20:28, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I find it interesting that someone compains about vandalism revertion. Usually users complain if we do not revert vandalism. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 00:33, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
