How do you remove the file extension (e.g. .png, .gif, etc.) if I link that file to an article?

Not 100% what you mean but if you want to create a wiki link to 'take' you to the file rather than 'display' it you just link like this:-
Wiki image which gives a link like > Wiki image were Wiki Image can be any text you what to appear as the link instead of the actual link 'address' just like a normal wiki link. In this example the file linked to is the std wiki logo >
The important bit is the prefix of ":" which can allso be used with categories to link to them within an article instead of displaying them in the category section. - BulldozerD11 talk contribs email 12:22, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
- Or you can link an image to a page instead of its description.

- gives...
- ...which links to User:WinniethePooh rather than the image or File:WinniethePooh.gif if you click the icon.

- gives...
