Me and the other admin on the Kuroshitsuji wiki are trying to figure out how to make a collapsible table for the past poll results. We both tried to test collapsible tables on the main page's talk page by copy and pasting the coding from here and here. We haven't edited the codes at all, but they don't work. What are we doing wrong? SereneChaos 16:44, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

You need to enable this functionality by adding some code to your wiki's MediaWiki CSS and JS pages. See the MediaWiki manual on collapsible tables OR import the script from elsewhere, like the dev wiki. Sovq 18:13, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if in the meanwhile you have made some change after you posted this but, to me, the show/hide buttons on that page (talk page) work perfectly.
This is probably going to have the obvious response but... Do you have javascript enabled?
On a side note, how many times this past week have people asked here help with the show/hide code? I've never had to make it work but I didn't expect so many people to have trouble with it.

We did copy and paste the code from the MediaWiki manual, but it's still not displaying, at least for us. I'm not sure if javascript in enabled. What do you have to do to enable it?
There's probably so many questions because a lot of new admins don't have experience with coding and the amount of text is daunting. And I'm sure most (like myself) just skim the help page for the code, which doesn't work automatically. SereneChaos 01:48, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
Part of the problem may be that Help:Collapsing is a bogus page and appears to be just copied directly from Wikipedia. It has a bunch of wrong info for Wikia wikis. I made some updates, but someone else should review this help page. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2011 7:49 PM Pacific
I'm trying to get collapsible tables to work on Tea wiki and nothing I try seems to work. I will continue investigating, but you might want to report your problem via Special:Contact, if you haven't already. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2011 10:08 PM Pacific

Tagging {{Staff needed}}.Okay, I've done some more investigating and there definitely seems to be some problem on Wikia's end and it seems to be specific to particular wikis.
I happen to be an admin on 2 different very new wikis. One I created myself and the other that I was recently made an admin on, so I did an experiment and implemented the exact code that Community Central uses from Dev wiki to support collapsible tables: importScriptPage('ShowHide/code.js', 'dev');
You can see at w:c:manycolored:MediaWiki:Common.js and w:c:tea:MediaWiki:Common.js that this code is the only thing on these two pages.
I made two identical sandbox pages on the two wikis with tables using class="collapsible": w:c:manycolored:User:Fandyllic/Sandbox and w:c:tea:User:Fandyllic/Sandbox
If you visit them, on w:c:manycolored the collapsible table works, but on w:c:tea, it doesn't.
So, the two wikis are probably running different configuration or software that affects this functionality. It doesn't appear to be related to the new editor, since both appear to be running the old editor. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2011 10:24 PM Pacific
Well... The 2 sandboxes you linked are working fine for me (at the time of this writing).
Is there a chance that at least one of us is going crazy? :p

It started working on the Kuroshitsuji wiki. Does it take some time for the javascript/CSS to start working? SereneChaos 17:16, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
I think Wikia fixed something, but did not respond to this post. It was not working before.-- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 20 Aug 2011 11:06 PM Pacific

Nobody will be able to help you further unless you link to the wiki in question. Common mistakes with implementing collapsible elements are:
  • Failure to refresh the browser's cache after updating .JS and/or .CSS pages.
  • Adding only Javascript code, for those versions that require both JS and CSS.
  • Wrong markup - users often forget to use a header cell, with a "!", to mark the cell that is to be collapsible.
  • Using multiple versions from seperate sources, which might lead to parts of the code overriding each other.

The version I tested does not require CSS changes, only the use of the correct classes when creating tables. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 23 Aug 2011 9:34 PM Pacific
I do also have a problem with collapsing tables. When I'm logged in, it does not work, and when I'm not logged in, it does work: here. I'm not sure what you guys get as behavior. Hunter789 14:13, August 21, 2011 (UTC)
If the collapsible TOC is what you're talking about it works both logged in and out for me (and I did multiple purges and forced reloads). -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 23 Aug 2011 9:34 PM Pacific

(resetting indentation) Yup. I don't know why it suddenly started to work as of today. I did not change anything to the code... hehe Mysteries of Wikia! ;) Hunter789 04:41, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
