Advanced options

This new option is just bad, people can now bypass the upload page and pretty much spam a wiki without reading the upload rules. Is there a way to redirect or at least edit the text that comes with this thing? -- Bunai82 (talk) 21:31, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

Looking at Special:Upload, that big warning looks the same as MediaWiki:Uploadtext.
Try creating MediaWiki:Uploadtext on your wiki and see if it works.

What big banner are you talking about? The "Add Photo" popup doesn't show any banner nor warning. And that's why this forum page has been posted. --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 20:33, November 29, 2010 (UTC)
You'd almost certainly have to use JS to insert some new text into this popup, since it doesn't have any descriptive text to override in the first place. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 2:42 PM PST 29 Nov 2010

This stupid 'improved'/simplified "add photo" interface explains why central and other wikis are filling up with unlicensed images. Even staff appear to be adding images without license tags, probably by using their new 'feature'. In my opinion it needs an immediate update to move the license dropdown box from the advanced section to the main section that is displayed by default + a message. The Old special:upload was better and available on more page in the old toolbox. The old text editor (pre RTE) box is better but is faulty at some screen resolutions and could do with a better notice feature adding. All the license options could do with a way of adding additional info fro attribution of sure during upload. Any coding experts up to the challenge of fixing this feature with a new add-in to replace the current poor effort or does anybody know of a extension to do it properly. -   BulldozerD11   talk    contribs    email   22:25, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

You could try fiddling with that. Also, you might try adding

.UploadPhotos .options { display:block !important; }

to your MediaWiki:wikia.css to always display the "advanced options" by default; however, I don't know if Wikia will tolerate this change, as this display might be considered improper. --◄mendel► 08:46, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

  • It shouldn't be considered improper. If anything, their propagation of images with a lack of source or licensing information is breaking their own policies (implied as a policy via the TOU), specifically: "If you are uploading files to Wikia, you should cite the source of the file, attribute the authors, and note any copyright information, where applicable. Individual communities may elaborate upon and refine requirements for file uploads." I mean, compare this to this. NayayenTALK 14:13, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Nayayen - Very Interesting as would probably work to fix upload but trying to 'decode' what i really need from that wikis huge JS files and the associated stuff may be beyond my coding skills as i know less about JS than i know about css which is mainly just C&P bits others point me to. It does look a lot better suited to getting the correct license Tags & adding attribution & source backlinks to image files than the current poor effort. The MediaWiki:common file liiks to have alsorts of stuff in aswell. Wikias medling with the search function has also made finding stuff like that harder as you almost need to know the file name your looking for to find it. -   BulldozerD11   talk    contribs    email   20:32, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks you two, I will check to see what I can do with it. Some kind of text to grab the attention of potential uploaders. -- Bunai82 (talk) 20:39, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
@Bulldozer. Ask Grunny about it, he's a bureaucrat on Wookieepedia who tends to be fairly knowledgeable about our css/js setups, I'm sure he'll be happy to help. NayayenTALK 21:38, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Good luck in getting a license or a summary to show up on gallery uploads. --◄mendel► 15:00, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
