The latest update left all answers wikis without an "Ask" input box and button.

As a workaround, you can add the following line to MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation (the easiest way to access it is the "Edit this menu" link on the navbar dropdowns):

** |Ask!

(Note that we're using the "more dropdowns" hack by using one more indent level than usual, see here.)

Then you should adjust the default page layout on MediaWiki:Newpagelayout to have only this (check MediaWiki:Unanswered_category if you customized this):

This ensures that the question will save (it won't if the text is blank) and be correctly tagged as unanswered.

Lastly, you can add helpful messages to Special:CreatePage; I haven't found the MediaWiki: messages to replace for that, so I'm doing it by adding the following lines to MediaWiki:wikia.css :

/* adding text to Special:CreatePage */
body.page-Special_CreatePage form b:first-of-type:after
{ content:" (your question, do not use a question mark)"; font-weight:normal; }
body.page-Special_CreatePage form b:nth-of-type(2):after
{ content:" (do not edit if you're asking a question)"; font-weight:normal; }

It would be great if you could add Credit: mendel @ w:Forum:Answers wikis: workaround "Ask" button to the edit summaries as you're adding this to your site! Thanks!

This is the best bug ever.--AB 11:08, April 28, 2011 (UTC)
The WoW Answers wiki still has it's Ask button and it works. Maybe this problem is only with the answers wikis which haven't got the new Oasis-based skin? -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 28 Apr 2011 9:13 AM Pacific
It was previously missing on every Answers site for me but it's now appearing again. --StrikerBack 16:26, April 28, 2011 (UTC)
When stuff like this happens on our wiki, I generally check central answers: for confirmation. We do have our button back again. (Are there still answers wikis on the old skin?) --◄mendel► 22:01, April 28, 2011 (UTC)
Highly doubt it.--AB 22:47, April 28, 2011 (UTC)
The missing ask box was a mistake and it's now back. Please do send bug reports to us via special:contact. There shouldn't be any wikis left on either of the old answer skins. Angela 08:15, May 1, 2011 (UTC)
