On the front page of emmerdalewiki.wikia.com, I should have a blue link for "3 January", but it is showing up as red. The page definitely exists! It's within a template but for the first two days it worked fine! Has anyone else been having this trouble? EmmerdaleWiki Talk 21:22, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

- Hmmm, very curious! I tried Ctrl+F5 and it's blue for me now too. I shouldn't have needed to do that though should I?! I'll see what happens tonight! Thanks anyway. EmmerdaleWiki Talk 21:45, January 3, 2012 (UTC)
- Pages on Wikia are cached. When you access a page, the browser asks Wikia "has this page changed since the last visit?". If the answer is no, it's still the same as it was a few hours ago, we serve you the cached HTML of how the page was a few hours ago. This greatly speeds up page loads because instead of trying to render stuff like parser functions or templates, we can bypass that part.
- The drawback is instances like this. The HTML value of the page didn't change - the link led to a page whether it was created or not - so you were served the HTML of how the page looked before the page was created.
- In order to bypass cache, add ?action=purge. This will clear the cached version of the page from our directory and instead create the cache based on how the page should be rendered right then. Caches also expire once every 24 hours to avoid this being a permanent issue. Hope this explanation helps! --daNASCAT

- Thank you for the explanation, but where exactly am I supposed to add ?action=purge ? At the end of the MainPage URL? Presumably this won't stop others seeing it as a red link though? If I create the January 5th page now, then in 24 hours time I can guarantee the link will be blue, is that right? EmmerdaleWiki Talk 00:38, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
- You add ?action=purge to the end of the URL. So the URL would be
http://emmerdalewiki.wikia.com/wiki/The_Emmerdale_Wiki?action=purge
. Using the purge functionality creates a new cache for everyone who accesses the page afterwards until the cache expires naturally or you purge another cache change. --daNASCAT(help forum | blog) 00:54, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! EmmerdaleWiki Talk 00:58, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
