LayoutEdit

Fooled me. I started wondering WHY the biggest wikis were only in categories with names beginning "A" to "G" and the most active ones were... - er - aha!!!

Any chance of separating the special three from the ordinary categories? Special three either running down the first column or all at the bottom, maybe?

Robin Patterson 05:21, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. I thought I'd try out this layout -- but you're right, it doesn't work. A box around them would be better; I'll see what I can do. -- Danny (talk) 15:29, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Danny. Down the first column looks fine, but I'm sure a little distinctiveness would make them even better - font size, colour, whatever? Maybe a separate table at the top, with the names closer together so's they don't all visually match up with the columns below? OK as is until you think of sthg. Image Map broken? Edit

Lesser known wikis Edit

I think there should be a sub-category for lesser-known wikis such as MMO Tips, Risk etc etc. Anyone with me? theg721 from the Risk Wiki!

Then there would be too many wikis on that list, which defeats the whole purpose of having one. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 11:48, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I18n Edit

I'd like to place a box in each hub, which says "This hub is also available in [Language]". I'd propose following box:

See this hub also in
{{{Languages}}} (linked via interwiki [[:de:Kategorie:Portale]]

What do you mean? Marc-Philipp (MtaÄ) Helper (Talk) 07:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

See this hub also in
German (Deutsch) – French (Français)

Side bar menu Edit

Can I propose that th side bar menu is updated with more of the hubs listed in it & the hobbies link actually goes to a Hub style page (or several sub pages) rather than the Hobbies category that it currently does. The 'Popular' wikis appear to be favoured with higher profile links. With the number lumped under hobbies category they have a lower visibility than the 'spotlighted ones on entertainments, Games & Big Wikis. Autos has a hub style page but is not linked from the menu . Their are probably others, and wikia uses the 'Spotlights' feature on each page to promote other wikis, but it often displays multiple adds (different image) for the same the same few wikis (in my experience). The logical place to look for other interesting wikies is in the menu but unless your after a games / tv / comic based wiki you do not appear to be catered for. Perhaps a helper with access to the side bar could update it a bit ? - Just a bit of feed back after looking for other wiks and finding a lot of subjects with potential but little exposure IMO. - BulldozerD11 11:51, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

What's going on with the menu is that the most visited pages in that category are listed, while those less popular are not. I think this approach is quite fair, especially because you could just visit the hubs category anyway. I'm worried personally about making this huge menu that just clutters. United Nations is not here! Edit

just to say that UN.wikia.com in nor real, and Unitednations.wikia.com in not up, and if you like history and politics, i wan somebody get up a new wikia, you enjoy us? It is your world!--Fero 03:20, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Green / Ecology Hub: how about it? Edit

I'd like to create a new wiki for designing and building an "eco-village" which is an alternative design for housing that is very energy efficient and does not create pollution.

Looking over the existing cqtegories, I did not find a good match. "Lifestyles" seems close, but was not really a good match.

Something "green?" Mbbradford 18:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

You can either take Green or (in fact you develope/invent something) Technology. But the hub is not the most important, just start your wiki, we can change it afterwards :) Marc-Philipp (MtaÄ) Helper (Talk) FW.png 18:49, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

New header for hubs Edit

Recently, I took the liberty of putting new icons up for Template:WikiaHubs. Pleased with the result, I've also designed a new header to be used across all of the hubs. The new header aims to tie in with the skin and feel of the wiki more, provide better navigation through hubs (particularly the popular ones), and provide a more refreshed and consistent look for all of the hubs. I didn't want to go so far as to replace the current headers without warning, so if you don't like the header, or if you think it could be improved, please comment. Two examples of the header in use are on here and here. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 09:43, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

Hi, they look great! But don't forget there is a big review of Central coming and we don't know what that's going to look like yet. One suggestion we've had that sounds good is to automate the hubs, so that they automatically show most active or biggest wikis. Which might mean new special pages in place of what's there now. Nothing is certain yet, but it would be a shame if you added more changes only to see them disappear in the future! -- sannse@fandom (talk) 18:11, December 11, 2009 (UTC)
I sort of guessed at that idea, because it seemed quite logical given the Wikia-wide search. I don't really mind - that would actually be quite an interesting idea. :) But from that, I guess I'm a little curious about what users on Central would do other than help and support via the forums. These are interesting times. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 23:28, December 11, 2009 (UTC)
I think that's the main thing people do here already :) But for other things people do... I don't know yet. I think we have a lot of potential in creating a community portal, possibly with things like featured wikis, or maybe competitions to create new colour schemes, or.... dunno :) As you said... interesting times! -- sannse@fandom (talk) 23:42, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

Hubspace Edit

How did you add this custom namespace to the Wiki?--Thomas Michael William Patrick Sales 16:29, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

You can request a new namespace using Special:Contact. Good luck! Mark (Talk) • (Contribs) 17:24, January 17, 2010 (UTC)
Okay. It's just that Sonic Fanon Wiki uses the "RP" namespace and I wanted to know how to make it into a proper namespace.--Thomas Michael William Patrick Sales 21:37, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

Answers Hub Edit

Shouldn't there really be a hub for answers now as we have all these new answers sites. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 16:10, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

LinksEdit

Hello, I am Starfleet Academy and I have just added Locomotive Wiki to hubs. But I have a question: Have I done the right thing by linking LW to its main page? I ask because I can't find another wiki that doesn't link to their Recent Activity page. Do get back to me whenever you find this, if you know. :) Starfleet Academy (live long and prosper) 04:06, August 26, 2011 (UTC)

All of the hub links are to the wiki itself, not to any specific page on the wiki. By default, this directs users to WikiActivity, unless they go into Special:Preferences and disable the redirect to WikiActivity (under 'Misc' tab), in which case it directs users to the Main Page instead. Whenever I click on a hub link, it always sends me to the main page. -- Supermorff 09:23, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Well I haven't done that so for others who haven't I will leave Locomotive Wiki's link alone. But thanks SM :) Starfleet Academy "Live long and prosper." 09:29, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

HELP!Edit

How do you change your Hub for your Wiki? As the founder of Mario Party Eight Wiki,I want to change it from Enterteiment to Gaming

Koranean-Air 08:50, September 3, 2011 (UTC)Koranean-Air

SuggestionEdit

There should be a 'government' hub (or change the relevant hub to 'politics and government'); and also hubs covering history and geography (or possibly 'geography and travel') Jackiespeel 15:17, June 14, 2012 (UTC)

You could add one! If you aren't comfortable doing the standard hub formatting, just create a page with a list of relevant wikis and someone else can do the formatting. -- Supermorff (talk) 15:18, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
